Good to know Tannehill is just a good guy. If he fails in this league it's not going to be because he's a headcase, or starts making purple drank. It's truly up to him and his abilities, and his coaches. Let's hope all those pan out well for our QB of the future.

I was not a big fan of the Dolphins taking Tannehill in the first round. Obviously Sherman is convinced that Tannehill can be a productive NFL QB and that is why the Dolphins decided to go with Tannehill. I am certainly willing to trust Sherman's football knowledge far more than I trust my own. So while I may not have wanted Tannehill, now that he is the projected starting QB for the Dolphins in the future, I wish him nothing but success and I will be rooting for him to be the next great QB we have been waiting for since Marino retired.

I'm good with the pick. That pretty much sums it up. Everything is new. Let's give the boys a chance here.

he could still bust but I won't fault them for taking a shot on someone I watched tape on and think is going to be pretty decent in the right enviroment. the only player id rather have seen taken there was luke kuechly but obviously quarterback is more of a need for us than MLB even though I think dansby a waste of money.

Let's hope the combination does better in the NFL than it did in the big twelve.

If Tanny plays exactly to the same level here that he did his last year @ aTm we are in the playoffs.

70 dropped balls by the receivers. 70. What could his stats have been if half of those were caught?

I'm all in on this kid. He's confident and seems to be coming in with a chip on his shoulders. He wants to fight for the starting job and said he's ok waiting if he doesn't win. He doesn't expect things to be handed to him and he wants to fight for them. The kid has fire and passion and I think we did get someone that can become a great qb in the future.

You can literally make that statement about any number of QB's coming out of college that would be drafted high.
    LOL.

It's all about who can make the step up into the NFL.

Few college QBs have had to put up with that many drops. That's a whole lot.

Is there anyone else from that offense that will be drafted? I'm kinda curious about what Ryan had around him. Makes a stronger case if he's the only guy drafted from that offense.

Researching myself. Jeff Fuller at WR might go in the 6th according to CBS Sportsline and Cyrus Gray will go around the 3rd/4th.

So he had a bit of help, but no real pro's there outside of Gray.

His ties to Sherman, the type of offense he's been taught which is read heavy and what Sherman feels is a very dedicated persona is what will make or break him coming into the NFL. Lots of prospects have had the "elite athleticism" tag and failed at QB.

My hopes rest on Sherman knowing him very well and being that convinced he'll make it at the NFL level.
Best sign of hope we have.

I'm just saying that you can look anyone's stats and say... "Well golly gee if he does the same thing in the NFL that he did in college we have an all pro!" It's a just a wee bit more complicated than that.

Yah I wasn't trying to argue with you.....just come up with factors that might lead to showing he's got some skill to become that. I updated the previous post as to possible draftee's from that offense..it's pretty thin.

Cyrus Gray, Jeff Fuller and a bunch of underclassmen. Gray may get drafted, but I don't think Fuller will.

No one is saying it isn't more complicated than that nor did I make my post in a vacuum. I was making a direct reply to Deej's post. My point was, if he puts up similar numbers in the pros that he did his last year in school we'll be sitting pretty, especially if his receivers are only dropping an average amount of balls instead of the astronomically high 70ish that his A&M receivers dropped.

that's an encouraging sign, his percentage should be a bit better with that type of inordinate number, my concerns about Tannehill are more about the instincts he possesses and whether he's too mechanical in what he does,, and about some very poor decision making...Iam hoping that the theory that if he played that well at the position so fast, those concerns will dissipate as he gets up to speed at least relative to other Qb's repetition base.

If you take out the 60 drops he had last season his completion percentage would be like 72%... If you take out half off the drops it is at like 67%.

It makes sense. Everyone knows that have terrible WRs, and to think that Tannehill could be even better than the guys that he was throwing to is definitely a possibility. If they had better WRs, he wouldn't have had to become one.

Well maybe thats another reason we drafted him.
He wasn't spoiled with WR talent to throw to in college and he won't be spoiled with WR talent here either.
    Perfect fit!
If anyone can make our WR crew work for them it's him. LOL.

Look this guy has more going for him now than any QB since Marino, so I'm happy with the pick and I'll look for him to start.

Bingo. Not saying the kid is not going to be good but Sherman sounds like any other coach making quotes about his players. Team first, unselfish is all great and dandy. The side of the NFL road is littered with guys that were team first and unselfish hard workers but did not have the overall talent to make the starting lineup or even make a roster. Wish the young man all the luck in the world but IMO, these comments from Sherman almost sound like drafting him was a payback for being a good egg and not making waves.

The Big 12 is not even 12 anymore. I mean the Big 12 is not nor ever has been, considered a hot bed for good NFL QBs. We also have to remember Sherman lost his job at ATM and this kid was his QB at the time. Like I said, wish the kid well.

You do realize that Sherman didn't actually make the pick correct? Also you make the correlation that Tannehill was the QB when Sherman was fired....you seem to imply that Tannehill helped to GET him fired with his play. If that were the case why would Sherman reward him?

Did not mince words. Tannehill was indeed the QB when Sherman got fired and if they had won enough games he would still have a job, no ? I am not implying Sherman picked him. I am implying Sherman gave a good word for the kid yes, but its very apparent Sherman is not spilling over with excitement that he is now our QB. You would realize that if Sherman was commenting on the recent pick of the Dolphins if we had selected Ancrew Luck. I assure you, Sherman would be a tad more excited in his comments. Like I said, wish the kid all the luck. I for one do not think he is a huge improvement over Matt Moore. Should not be expensive though. Last year Jake Locker was picked 8th overall and signed a 4 year contract for around 12 million, all guaranteed. If this kid does not work out its not like we broke the bank to get him.

I hope The best for this kid, but I just dont get the 70 drops and how dropping him on our team is going to fix that? Couldn't a similar case be made for Moore or even Henne? I hope some wide receiver help is coming today.

I seriously hope this is the last time I hear Tanny sucks and the proof used is Sherman got fired. That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

And if Sherman didn't mean what he said, why the **** would he want him on his team....again? Seriously, bro just stop.

I would say the plausible reason Sherman got fired is because of a defense that was awful and the inability to recruit receivers who can hold on to the football.

I am hoping for the best. But, to be honest, when I hear stuff like, "He is a great teammate, a real 'team player'" I get really uncomfortable.

Reminds me too much of, "We're getting a great family." Or, "She's got a lovely personality."

It's nice if he's an unselfish team player, but we could find some of those on this board. What matters is being cool under pressure, making great reads followed by accurate throws. Period.
