This is where Tannehill should be rated.. Also, the term "Pro Style Passes" is another one of those overrated terms. The throws you don't see Couch or Tannehill make is that tough throw where a guy isn't completely wide open. Jason Campbell also suffers from this as well. THIS is the type of throws that a QB should make. And I just don't see those type of throws from Tannehill. He takes the safe pass every time
But statistically, they don't all drop passes at the rate that Tannehill's did. That's was why I specifically stated that they dropped passes at twice the average rate. That wasn't just pulled out of my *** or some general justification. It's been discussed here before. Tannehill's receivers dropped passes at more than twice the average rate and that has an effect on his completion pct. I don't tend to base my evaluations on stats, but this was an example of somebody using a stat out of context. The very high rate of drops in this case helps place that stat in context.
I disagree. In fact I would say that Tannehill is guilty of being too aggressive with his passes. His interceptions were mostly b/c of either being too aggressive or bad receiver play. There were a few bad reads in there as well (primarily in-breaking routes), but mostly it was the first two categories. If you watch the Gruden video, he provides some examples of that. In fact, I'm shocked that you keep making the Couch comparison as they were in completely different offenses and asked to make completely different throws.
The comparison I'm making with Couch is the propensity to not make the challenging throw. You don't throw 15 ints all attributed to bad WR play. Please explain what happened in that OSU game? Defensive sluttery aside, those INTs were squarely on him. Tannehill never made the tough throw..if the easy throw wasn't there, he utilized his athleticism and took off. At some point, you're going to have to "Throw a WR open", "Take a shot in the chest", until I see that happen, he won't be that Franchise QB that everyone is saying he is. What you'll see is what you saw in Chad Henne: Flashes without the consistency needed to take the next step
Yes I would expect that.. What soured me on Tannehill was how he regressed from last season to this season. When he came in for Jerrod Johnson, he clearly elevated his squad and made them better. He also had a solid showing against LSU in the Cotton Bowl. He didn't show progress in 2011, and the rest of the country caught up to his tendencies and he didn't rise to the occasion.. He actually looked like Jerrod Johnson did when he took over for him (Remember, Jerrod Johnson came into 2010 with a 2nd Rd Grade then dropped like a bomb). Tannehill should have shown growth this year all things considered
I stated that his interceptions fell into three categories. "His interceptions were mostly b/c of either being too aggressive or bad receiver play. There were a few bad reads in there as well (primarily in-breaking routes), but mostly it was the first two categories." So I never stated it was all on the WRs. They were, however, a big part of it. Without going back to the tape, I'd say 3-4 of those 15 were attributable to the WRs (the routes were sloppy so it's sometimes hard to tell if the pass or read was off or the route was off), about 3-4 to being overly aggressive and the rest to bad reads. I disagree with the basis of your comparison. Tannehill threw too many challenging throws. Apparently, ESPN took down the Gruden video, but in that video Gruden specifically talked about that with Tannehill. Tannehill forced some of those deep outs and they resulted in interceptions. Gruden quoted Walsh's saying about how out breaking routes are given, not taken. Tannehill was guilty of trying to take those when the DB had not abandoned his back pedal. Gruden told him to take the check down in those cases. The point is that Tannehill was taking the challenging throw too often.
No credit for being more efficient than any other Qb in college football, no intrigue to combine that efficient play with elite qb athleticism, and playmaking ability?
I think he goes in the first three, your not giving the talent itself the respect it deserves your simply generalizing him on height, this is a special player, and those types break generalities all the time..
He got drafted a round higher, by a team that over drafted players all day. Congrats. I really really hope Wilson has a successful career. I love the kid.
He got drafted where he belonged Nap, you were wrong on wanting to bet everyone that he wouldn't, I respect your eye, but, he went where his talent dictated imo...Iam literally disgusted seeing him on another team, they signed Flynn and still drafted the Wilson, folks were telling me I was crazy for such a thought process...sonofabitch would of been on my team.
I said I would bet he wouldn't get drafted in round 2. I said he should go round 4 and beyond. But I knew one team could reach for him, which Seattle did. Just as they did with their other picks so far.
I don't see a reach at all for wilson, **** I wouldn't have been mad we take him instead of ****ing tannehill
What really struck me was Gruden making an inch with his fingers and saying "This is the difference between Wilson and 6'0, this is why he isn't a first rounder"
A few of us have been saying that for a long time..I love Rg3 but if Wilson was RG's height, IMO he's the 2nd pick in the draft..
