    Wrong....

It's a legit answer for those that weren't sold on him to begin with but do understand the "potential" that people preach about him. I can't tell you whether he's a good get or not.

I'm usually pretty optimistic in the offseason, and I'm no different this year. We've got a fresh start with a new coach, and I like the fact that our draft pick played for our new offensive coordinator. Welcome to Miami, rookie.

    Oh Yawn....

    Come on bro.

I can tell you looking back that guys I would have picked over the last decade have turned out much better than the moves we made. Especially during the Wanny years. GM's are not infallible at all and this fan base has every reason to be leery of our leadership with what we've witnessed over the last decade.

I'm not saying we are right at all but the statement you just posted is way over the top.

Glad we didn't take Coples and I'm happy the Jets did.
    Much better DE candidates IMO.
I would have drafted probably 4 other DE's in front of him.
I think the Jets got another high bust potential guy and I love it.

    Was it a reach? Yes.
Do I like the pick? Yes.
Was there someone else available whom I liked better at his position? No.
Was there someone available I liked better at any other position? Yes. DeCastro at guard. But not at the 8th pick.

I voted no. Not because I think he's a bad player or anything like that. I believe we should have picked a impact player that can start on game 1. We took a QB at 8 that is gonna have to sit at least a year IMO. However I am not employed by Phins and don't have access to the type of information that they have available to them. I hope it works out.

Just about any other situation and I'd agree with you. This team has floundered around for years and Tanny represents the best option we've had (even tho it's only potential) since Marino retired. Taking Tanny was just as important to the FO and it's waning PR as it was for adding talent to this team, and giving Philbin someone to build his team around...

The new rookie wage scale has changed the thinking and grabbing a QB a bit higher than maybe he's rated is in vogue and will be... Sitting on a guy while he develops further from the NCAA level isn't the costly issue it has been. Any other year, we draft Tanny and he's in the $40-50M dollar club...At that price, he has to start...at $4m a year, he can mature a year...IF it takes that long for him...

Like him or not, you can't predict how good he is going to be. He might be our Aaron Rodgers or our Joey Harrington. We won't know that for a few years, whether he starts right away or not...and I like the kid, but if I tell you he's going to be good, it's just and opinion and that and $6 will get you a latte at Starbucks...

Voted for the "I will tell you in 3 years" option. Look, lets face it, we don't know, we just don't know. But, what's done is done. So, all we can do is hope the kid has all the tools, is well coached, and hope it all comes together. If so, then kudos to Irish and the gang for having the foresight and cojones to draft him at #8. If not, well...it's same ol' same ol' for the next three years, and back to ol' drawing board with a whole new regime.

The draft is ENTIRELY about predicting and projecting. Of course no-one know for sure, but that doesn't mean you can't feel good or bad about the pick now.

If the Dolphins took Coples, wouldn't you have to wait 3 years to make a judgement on him. Like you said you may not like him now, but if he turns out to be really good, you will come around.

I agree on all of this except for the risk reward theory, If I think I have a better Qb that I can get later, than I make the strategy to do so.

IMO Tannehill is elite, has all the tools - physical, mental, work ethic, and desire. I think he is going to be a much better QB than RGIII. Very stoked to have him on the team.

Only reason he fell to us was because of the limited experience, we were able to mitigate questions because of Sherman's inside info and relationship with him.

I guy who in his first start after playing WR the whole season (and college career), dials up 449 yards and 4 td's, throwing 50 passes in his first game, that's special!

I really wanted barron but he went before we even picked also would of been ok with floyd but the dolphins were never going to go 1st round wr so was more of a pipe dream. Not sold on Tannehill but I also understand the need to draft a 1st round qb so I think the I'll tell you in 3 years is a legit answer on the poll.

PFW said Ireland and Sherman didn't want to make this pick, they weren't sold on Tannehill. They said this was a Ross pick FWIW

Sorry...Pro Football Weekly. Heard it on their radio show. Just to be clear(and not directed at you bro) I am just putting information out there, I still feel that this is a wait and see how Tannehill develops after a year or two of sitting and working on his mechanics, reads and overall refinement of his game.

IMO the PFW story is B.S. There has been so much information out there for so long about how the Dolphins were high on Tannehill. Ireland himself was out talking to the TAMU coaches back in October. In his interview on Mike and Mike Ireland said that he had Tannehill as a first rounder back in August before the season. He followed his progress through the season and was impressed enough that he followed up in October. This all tracks logically for anybody who knows how the evaluation process works. Then you hear Sherman talk about what he considers to be most important in a QB and he starts with "attitude" and goes on to compare Tannehill's attitude to Favre and Rodgers. There is no way Ireland and the coaches didn't want Tannehill. Also IMO the media perception of Ross as an owner who would demand a player be picked is inaccurate. I don't see him as a guy who thinks he knows more about football than the football guys he employs. If he believes in Ireland, which he obviously does after retaining him when he could have easily moved on, he's going to listen to him. My read of Ross is that in football matters he acts like a fan. He hears Ireland talk up Tannehill and he gets all excited about picking him. The media has it backwards when they think he's driving this. Ireland is clearly running the personnel side now. If Tannehill does not succeed it will be on Ireland.

I don't necessarily disagree with this, but to play devils advocate, what GM will come out on the record and trash a draft prospect?

    I'm unsure.

Miami needs a QB, and there's a new coach in town, so it seems the coach goes and gets his quarterback.

I just hope it works out, that's all.

I am still not sold on Ryan Tannehill. I felt they should have drafted Brock Osweiler from ASU, Kirk Cousins from Michigan State, and Casey Keenum & Kellen Moore are still available.

It's just an opinion. Why is it that when someone who expresses their doubts about Tannehill they get yelled at or dismiss completely?

Ok look at his overall stats from last season and also his individual game stats especially in the big games agaisnt Oklahoma and a not so good Texas team. I watched every Texas A&M game this season and he wasn't that impressive.

    ahahahahaha!

Look mike80, you have no idea what you're talking about. It's okay. I saw your apology post in the other thread. It's just so funny that someone who knows so little about football would seek out a message board to talk about it and be so "opinionated".

To the orginal theme of the thread; I understand the first two picks. I see great value in martin in the second round. It fills an important need as we had no right side to our oline. We all saw what one player playing like **** can do to wreck an offense. Couple that with veron carey getting real old in a hurry and we almost set the sacks allowed record. If martin plays well we'll be that much closer to having our oline set.

I like the potential in the tanny pick. As I said before I would have liked luke kueckley (sp?) from boston college but that obviously requires a lot of work in dumping dansby. I won't fault the FO for tannehill unless he's basically useless when he get's on the field and that's only because we have inside info on him.

The rest of the draft? WTF? I don't get it. I understand the pash rusher need but over a WR? I don't like the TE pick up either and lamar miller is prob the worst one. Sure he's got some talent/speed but why trade up and why at that position. We traded up for thomas last year who i think can still play. short preseason and the injury kinda messed him up IMO...I just think we had more pressing needs, mainly because RB shouldn't be one, at so many other spots i dont get the pick. cant wait to hear the press conference for this one.

NFL network said that, QBs picked in the first round 50% made it in the other rounds 2nd to 7th only 10% did, we all have something to look forward to.

I'm extremely please that they had the balls to do it, and not take the easy way out and take Coples who was picked 16th by the Jets, lots of "don't want Tanny guys" wanted Coples, he dropped 8 spots so he would have been a reach at 8th..

Obviously having Sherman would be reason to be confident about the pick, just like we didn't sign Flynn not because Irish low balled him, but because Philbin didn't want him.

The Dolphins didn't want Flynn they wanted Tanny and they got him.

I actually really like Osweiler, but not more than Tannehill. Had we missed out on Tannehill I'd have been hoping for Osweiler.
