I agree. If ends up good it's all moot.
I'm just refuting Tannehill at #8 was value. Because it wasn't. And I really don't see how one can argue it was.
In the end if he develops like some around here think he will, it won't matter.

I'm surprised Washington didn't trade up and take him too! They could have hit the QB trifecta! <-- Sarcasm

I agree though. Seattle would have taken him.

This is just over the top. He is not close to Johnson speed nor the elusiveness. Johnson had an official clocking at the Combine of 4.24. That's an insane official - which is usually slower than the stops. Miller's official was 4.4 and he didn't run in his pro day.

That said, the Dolphins did get tremendous value out of this pick.

Just off a quick reaction, I think their best "value" picks were Martin, Miller & Matthews. 3M.

Hopefully this turns out to be Ireland's best draft. The reality is, it's likely only 3-4 of these will pan out (even in a good draft). The most important of which is Tannehill.

Never knew that even as I watched most 'canes games. Never seemed to show it, only thing that was obvious was his shoulder.

OT: did you ever see Willis McGahee's knee injury?

Don't forget about Egnew. He easily replaces Marshall. Probably a step slower but he doesn't drop anything. Great addition.

I find it really funny you see a QB prospect as a 1/2 a round reach.

Egnew may end up being a good pick but he does not "easily replace Marshall".
We have no idea if he'll ever have an impact in a single NFL game.

Let's not get crazy. No one we drafted "easily replaces Marshall", much less a TE we drafted in the 3rd round.

    Why?

1100 yrds and 6 tds is not all world.

Look, Marshall has all world talent, but he didn't show it here. It is that simple. We need to look at the reality of what Marshall was here. That reality is...meh. Anything else is confusing reality with potential.

I'm a little surprised there is anyone that does not like Lamar Miller where we got him.
He was arguably the best player available BY far at that point.

I do not at all agree with those attempting to spread the sentiment that our offense simply won't need top WR talent..... I think the sentiment is absurd quite frankly.

We are in dire need of WR help at this point.
That said regardless of that need RB is hardly set at this point.

It was an enigma that Bush filled a feature back role and was able to stay healthy the whole year.
I'd bet the house that never happens again.
Daniel Thomas may turn out decent but he does not have the home run tools that Lamar Miller does.
He has serious potential to be a top threat RB.
Regardless of the WR need Miller was just too talented to pass on.

This could end up being the biggest impact pick of this draft for us.

Which is exactly what the statement you supported with a fist pump does.
If you think a rookie TE that has never stepped on the field "easily replaces" a WR that has been an All Pro you're not confusing reality with potential, you are not in reality at all.

I agree on some of your assessment but for the life of me I cannot see how you consider Miller would ever be put in a 3rd down back role.
Would be a waste of his talents.
His potential is an every down back.

Sigh. What was All Pro about Marshall? Was it the slightly better than average 1100 yards or the horrifically bad 6 tds? That's reality. I fist pumped the post because Marshall's actual contribution was not what everyone acts like it was. Marshall's best year here, was worse than Chambers best year here.

He has the potential. But I actually think Miller is a much better 1st and 2nd down player currently, and the way Thomas' blocking began to improve, he is best suit currently for the 3rd down role.

What was All Pro about Marshall?

How about the fact he's been one 3 times?
Can we start with that maybe?
He's been a consistent 1000 plus WR since his 2nd year in the league and was even able to achieve it in our awful offense.

Is he a head case? Yes
Can you make a fair argument that it was smart for us to dump him off because of his mental issues? Yes
Does any of that change the fact that he is a talented WR? No.
    This argument is absurd.

First and foremost how many TE's do you know that ever reach the numbers Marshall has put up in his worst years?
Secondly he's a rookie that has never stepped on an NFL field.
Just with those 2 facts the statement is absurd and I could go on further.

I can't stop laughing at your "what makes him an all pro?" comment.
    It's hysterical.
He's been one 3 times! LMAO....

I didn't say he wasn't talented. So keep laughing. I said his production here was not all world. He wasn't an all pro here, Pro Bowl or not. 30 other receivers scored more TDs than him last year. 30+. All he brought to the table was 1200 (I said 1100, that was a mistake) yrds. Which is not a big deal considering how many times he was targeted. He was 31st in ypc. He was 47 in yac.

Maybe, I see him as a Jamal Charles/Ahmad Bradshaw type of player but would not like to see him have 25-30 touches per game.

I like our backfield, do think we simply have to upgrade the Wr corps, I enjoy developmental players as much as the next fan but to have a Wr corps full of them is a recipe for failure imo

I don't believe he was for us CR..

Not relative to the contract that's for sure..inconsistent hands, lack of explosiveness, no deep speed, Iam only comparing him to what I think a true # 1 should be...IMO, he fell short of elite

    I never said he did.
I think we can all agree however that this offense was not going to be any WR's best friend either.

    He has issues.
He drops balls and we already discussed the mental issues which are by far his biggest issue.

However for someone to come on here and say a rookie TE who has never played a down in the NFL is going to "easily" match the talent level of a WR that has been an All Pro 3 times. It's just damn funny.

Then to have someone ask what makes him an all pro when he's been one... again 3 times... sorry but I have to chuckle.

I don't really think he's an every down back honestly. Also by third down back I don't mean he will only ever play on third down, I just mean he isn't going to get 20 carries a game. Maybe situational back is a better word.

Honestly though if he can be an every down back this is the place for him. I can see him doing very well in a zone blocking scheme where he doesn't need to confront defensive players until the the second level. The WCO fits him very well. I just don't see him being consistent enough with his skill set at the NFL level. He could be a GREAT change of pace type player in an offense and break some big gains that change the course of the game. I just doubt his ability to consistently gain 3-5 yards.

I totally agree on the WR aspect.
I just don't buy this argument that our new offensive system makes the need for a top talent at WR obsolete.
    Sorry just don't buy it.

Someone needs to threaten the defense enough to draw extra attention.
KB and a few others have some pretty solid faith in a couple of the developmental guys we've been holding on to.
For our sakes I hope they are right that they may be ready to make an impact.

    Honestly?

What made him productive was feeding him the ball all the time.

I do think his departure is a bigger deal then people think, but do keep in mind his target to reception ratio was not very good.

Look, you can be obstinate all you want. Simple fact of the matter is, 1200 yrds & 6Tds is all Marshall did last year here. A rookie can come in and match that. That's thew only impact Marshall has had. If you think that is worth a Pro Bowl and impossible shoes to fill, than like I said, you don't give a damn about facts. But yeah, by all means, tell me how a guy who won a popularity contest had irreplaceable production here.

Blaming Marshall for what he accomplished here is pretty narrow minded considering the conservative offense we had and how unspectacular it was.
QB issues, OL issues and lack of WR talent to take the pressure off of him.

Fin wants to feed me production #'s and how they were far down the WR list.
Of course they were. Our offense was ranked 23 rd in the league.
    How about this stat.....

The guy doubled yardage and TD #'s of the next closest WR on the roster.

He was clearly our entire passing game.
For him to have achieved the numbers he did on this team was amazing in itself.

You have to look at his entire body of work.
Again, I am not saying Marshall is perfect. He has weaknesses as I've mentioned.
The guy is however a proven talent at the NFL level and a proven All Pro talent.

Is it IMPOSSIBLE for someone to match those numbers?
    Of course not.
To say a rookie TE that has never played in the NFL before will "EASILY" match those numbers and more importantly the talent level of Marshall however is absurd. That is what was posted and then fisted by Fin.
Egnew could "easily" not ever see the field this year.

We will never have the ability to directly compare production either as we will have an entirely different offense this year that I think we can all agree is much more aggressive than we had the last couple years.

This is really a silly discussion on multiple levels.

Why don't you go back and show us how many rookie TE's have posted those types of numbers in their rookie campaign?
    Why don't we start there.
If that type of production is so easy to attain for a rookie TE I am sure you will find a ton of them.

I'm not even going to get into such deep concepts as the overall success of our offense last year, the talent deficiencies we had and the affects on a #1 WR's numbers that arguably could have had. I won't get into how any numbers next year won't even be comparable considering we will be running a completely different offense either. It would bring too much sanity to the discussion.

Bottom line is that it's about replacing a talent level not #'s for one year.

Gronkowski obliterated those numbers last year. 1300 yrds and 17tds. Aaron Hernandez nearly matched those numbers (910 yrds 7tds) of course he had to share with Gronk. That's just last year.

Yeah our offense sucked. You know what else sucked? Marshalls YAC. 42nd in the league. That's on him.

You just named ONE example that played on one of the top offenses in the history of the NFL.
Fair to say Gronks season was a huge anomaly.

    So predictable.... got anything else?
Maybe another anomaly that happened last year like Graham on another pass happy offense?
Both record setting never been seen before production.
Surely you can find a number of examples from past years if that production is SO easy for a rookie TE to achieve.
I mean it's just easy pickens right?

Thinking this rookie TE is going to come in and be as productive as marshell is down right stupid. He did make a pro bowl last season right? He had a horrible quarterback who had an even more horrible O line blocking for him.

If you want to hate marshell then hate him for his cry baby attitude which was show cased against the browns. Joe hayden locked him up in the first half, the ball didn't come his way and he gave up in the second half. Part of the problem is the fact we had no other WRs and our coaching staff didn't do things to create chances for marshell in terms of play calling. The dude is easily a top ten WR talent in the NFL and a third round TE that did very little in college isn't going to match his production this year, sorry that's pretty stupid.

Was I sad to see marshell go? not really but I'm def pissed we only got two thirds for him and gave up two seconds to get him. Honestly we should have kept him around and atleast given tanny someone to throw to when he comes in around week 6 or 7 besides bargin bin draft picks, pretty lackluster vets and a third round TE.

No one person is going to match the production of Brandon last season. Yes we fed him the ball but there was a reason for that the reason being that he was the only player WORTH feeding the ball to. Like I said, no ONE player is going to do what he did. Our best shot to replace his production will be for everyone to step up and gain 200-300 more yards than they did last season. I believe we can have better production as a UNIT this coming season. However I believe Marshall could have been dominant again in this system.

Marshall had average yards and waaaaaaay below average TDs. He didn't produce here. Plain and simple. The only real argument that has been made is not that he sucks or anyone hates him, but that he didn't produce while here. That lack of production shouldn't be hard to replicate.
