Edit: It's worth noting we're currently at 87 players giving us 3 open roster slots.
Why do you have Incognito listed as the #2 center? I'd put Cook in that spot and move Incognito to the first guard.
I'd guess: RT: Murtha/Martin RG: Hicks//Jerry/Garner C:Pouncey/Cook LG: Richie I/Jerry? LT:Long/Jerry Have to wonder what their plans are for Murtha/Garner?
We are still really hurting at the OG position. Like really really. Id say we have done a pretty good job though. OG and WR are the only black holes IMO.
Depends, meaning do they try out Murtha at RG or LG? Otherwise we have vets in Richie I and Artis Hicks and I'm fairly comfortable with that situation, but hopefully one of the UDFA G's, or John Jerry can win one of those roles just to up the athleticism.
Murtha is not a guard. And I for one am definitely comfortable with Hicks and Richie. Im comfortable saying both suck ***. Richie has been part of the problem on our OL since hes been here. And for whatever reason he continues to get a pass. Hicks is definitely not the answer. Both those players are nice depth. But bad starters.
Disagree, Richie I played with a bad thumb in 2011 and probalby was to heavy to fit into Parcels "big man's game" theory. As for Murtha at Guard, do not be surprised if we see it as Martin will play RT, leaving Jerry and Murtha as the next best athletes who figure to get a crack at Guard with RT being sewn up.
Richie was terrible in 2010 and pretty much his whole career. And Im sorry the guy had a thumb injury. But hes a guard. In the heart of the trenches. A thumb injury should not matter. Richie is a tough SOB, hes just not a good starter, dont give me no thumb crap.
I think they will eventually pick a Traditional FB after cuts. Also hoping they take a chance on Bacari Rambo in the Sup draft.
One thing I noticed with the UDFA linemen Miami picked up, all of them fit that bill of being around the 315lbs mark that Coach Philbin brought up last week. Derek Dennis is probably the only one I'd think has a chance at the roster, but all of them fit that athletic bill a little more than guys like Richie Incognito, Ryan Cook, John Jerry, and Nate Garner. After watching Ireland's post-draft press conference, I also wonder if now they might end up going after Jake Scott and trying to get a deal done. I know Miami was interested in him prior to the draft. I'd also want them to at least bring in Nick Collins and check him out. He'd be the best safety on Miami's roster the first minute he sets foot on the practice field if he's healthy. I'd think their priorities going forward in the offseason would still be to try and address guard and free safety in addition to working on extensions for guys like Jake Long, Randy Starks, and Cameron Wake. I wonder if the Lamar Miller pick means they will wait on extending Reggie Bush and see how he does this season. Given the guys looking for extensions, I'd rather get Long and Wake re-signed before Reggie for sure. Randy Starks is probably right there with Reggie.
I agree with pretty much everything in this post. Including Derek Dennis. I like him to fit really well.
I don't believe Jake Scott has been signed and I don't think he visited any other teams after us. There could be an agreement there and I wouldn't be surprised if we signed him, making Artis Hicks our reserve tackle.
Maybe so. I think with Miller, Miami's hedging their bets of Reggie Bush either having a down year/not fitting into the new offense. I think it'd be a bigger priority to re-sign Jake Long, Cameron Wake, and Randy Starks before Reggie. I wonder if they wouldn't keep four backs on the roster - I believe they did this in Green Bay for most if not all of last year - and then in 2013, the backs would be Daniel Thomas, Lamar Miller, and Steve Slaton unless Reggie Bush lights it up enough to the point he's too invaluable to let go.
Would think a OL players thumb injury would be close to a RB toe injury its going to effect them. Should keep the holding calls down though.
I am definitely comfortable in saying you are way over the top in your negativity toward Incognito and Hicks. Last season PFF graded RI as the 36th of 77 guards. In '10 they graded him 17th of 82. That pretty much jibes with what I've seen of him, and when I replay the plays there is no one I focus on any more than Incognito. He's no pro bowler, but he is a solid middle of the road guard at worst. The last time Hicks played RG was 2010 with the Skins. I'll take a guess here, and say you haven't gone back and broken down any of his game film from that season. CK has, and his report of Hicks, as a RG, was very favorable and CK tends to be very fair when he analyzes current Dolphins players in their past performances. Hick passed blocked 367 snaps in 2010 at RG and allowed 2 sacks. I'd say that is an above average ratio. So, no, it would not be an objective observation to say either one "suck ***"
It's not really a depth chart. Incognito was listed as a center because that's the position he's listed at on miamidolphins.com. Surely he will end up in one of the guard roles barring a great showing by Jerry or Garner so it doesn't really matter what position he's listed at.
Getting an extension done for Wake should be this organizations #1 priority now that the draft is over. The guy is criminally underpaid. I think Jake Long and Randy Starks will probably have to wait till next off-season to get their deals done. As for the Lamar Miller pick, I think that the jumping to conclusions of a lot of people that it means Reggie is gonna be out or it means that this coaching staff doesn't like Thomas is very premature. Lamar Miller was a guy that reportedly some GMs had a 2nd round grade on. He was a value pick in the 4th round even if we had to move up for him. Yes, if Miller shines it could spell the end of another RB in Miami but that's only a good thing and it doesn't mean we took him with the intention of showing someone else the door.
That seems odd, but they do. Their roster is not totally up to date. They added the draft picks but guys like Pouncey are still listed as rookies too. Also, Westerman is listed as a OLB, which he is, and should be listed there.
maybe this will happen: Long-Garner/Iconito-Pouncey-Incognito/Jerry-Martin/Murtha offensive line look strong, flexible & overall very good to me.
I think the RT job is Martin's to lose. Otherwise I agree. Plans for Murtha and Garner is that the OL needs 3-4 good reserves. As it stands now, both of them and Jerry would supply the depth. Long/Incognito/Pouncey/Hicks/Martin
According to PFF, only 5 WRs took snaps for the Packers each of the last 2 seasons. They carry 4 TEs too though.
Do we have 4 TEs worth keeping? I was thinking we would only keep two (Fasano and Egnew) while keeping Clay to play that H-Back TE/FB hybrid role.
We do not have a true pure FB on the roster, though we did bring in Ahmard Hall formerly of the Titans, for a visit a few weeks ago. Unless we signed him or someone like him, I'd say Clay is kept as a FB. Mastrud is a good blocker. We really have no idea yet if Yeatman or Les Brown will be worth keeping.
Nope. Remember, last season their left guard was a freshman. That could account for some of his perceived weaknesses. Actually I have not noticed any such limitation more than the usual OT in this regard. I think as a rookie, Martin would be benefited a lot playing next to grizzled savvy veteran like Artis Hicks, who is well schooled and fairly proficient in a zone blocking scheme.
I read somewhere that Jeff Fuller has been told my some to convert to tight end. Maybe he could make the roster as a pass-catching tight end? Just a thought.
i think it soundslike we are going to have a better oline but our wr s wont scare anyone though. i hope they carry three tightends and 4 wrs with a 5th one onthe practice squad. i am half way excited about our runningbacks but i have no faith in the qbs and wrs until i see them dancing in the endzone but not every wr can excite me like Lamar Thomas and Oj McDuffie
Wait, you were excited by Lamar Thomas, but you don't think any of the WRs currently on our roster are exciting? Ok. Give me Hartline over Lamar Thomas any day.
The thing about Philbin's offensive system is that there are tons of formation and personnel sets. As a general rule you need two more players on the final roster for each position than you will regularly use. Given what I've seen of Philbin's offense in GB, that means five TEs, five backs, and seven WR as offensive weapons. Fortunately you can monkey with the numbers a little by having guys who can play multiple positions, so guys like Clay can be counted as both a TE and a back.
Yah only recent WR's that excited me was O.J., Early days Chris Chambers before the Denver head shot and those O.G. one handed grabs.
