Quotes..Speaking about the day that Ireland organized to workout Hurricane players.

" we made it a special day, It was a Miami Hurricane, Miami Dolphin day ( pointing to his chest)

"We want to create a very special relationship with the Miami hurricanes program, I respect Al golden very much, he's been very good to me and I respect him as a coach, and how he is running the program.I believe in him.

"We are just scratching the surface."

Very smart Mr.Ireland..very smart..you create that relationship for the future..The hurricane program is special, and it's about time someone realized how to fuse a relationship for not only funneling talent, but to repair and rebuild a sense of culture and pride..The dream one day could be, I don't wanna be just a cane, but I wanna be a Cane and a Dolphin.

Now all we need to do is have a plan to rebuild no life stadium into something that both fanbases can be proud to come to the games and support their teams with passionate and spirit..Like when teams did not want to come to play us.

Now we just need to bring back the Orange Bowl. :-)
Im a happy Phins fan. We Drafted players of need and we got quality and good potential upside. Hard to knock this Draft. No Ginns or 2nd round QB's.

I'd rather forge a relationship with a team that wins but hey lets take a bunch of project players and injury ridden guys just because they come from the U.

    I think it's very beneficial.

You look at Belichick's relationship with Urban Meyer, and Bill drafting three starters out of Florida in 2010.

There is no better hotbed in the country than south Florida enriched talent..The U has a special place in the hearts of those young men, it doesn't seem like you understand the depth of that angle and how it can be forged..Ireland does, went out of his way to express it, and do something about it...

Feline AIDS is still an epidemic. But yeah, there is folly in drafting simply because.

I think it makes sense to foster the relationship. This is a talent rich area and having a little better insight into that talent, like the kind you can get from having a good local relationship, makes sense.

seriously, why do you post? I don't like the U or anything about the school, but it's irrelevant whether Miami is an average team. their players translate to the NFL.
    - last 5 RBs drafted: Portis, Davenport, McGahee, Gore and Lamar Miller
    - last 5 TEs drafted: Shockey, Winslow II, Everett, Olsen and Graham
    - WR - includes Andre Johnson, Parrish and Devin Hester
    - LBs - Ray Lewis, Vilma, Morgan, DJ WIlliams, Rocky McIntosh,
    - DB - Ed Reed, Merriweather, Kenny Philips, Antrel Rolle

seriously, try to think about your post before you spew. Your posts easily have the lowest value of anyone I've ever seen at thePhins. on level from what I expect from a Jets fan.

Or we could simply acknowledge that there have been a lot of good football players to come out of that school and -- being in your own back yard -- it's not a bad idea to forge a working relationship. It can only help, not hurt.

Perhaps if we had this relationship previously, Tony Sparano wouldn't have jumped Sam Shields for not already knowing who the Dolphins DB coach was during his visit. Perhaps Shields would have signed here like he wanted rather than going to Green Bay.

Ireland acknowledged publicly that he and Al Golden are on the same wavelength. Golden is bringing in higher caliber players than the previous regime and better coaching the ones he inherited.

Most of the best talent comes from South Florida. Miami recruits mainly South Florida. It only makes sense.

And even though Miami has been crap for the past 5 years or so, players are still getting drafted and making an impact in the NFL. They just got terrible coaching in college. That looks like it's changing right now.

In all seriousness... I think it's great. If you don't have a minor league team in the NFL, may as well forge a close relationship with the closest school with the odds of landing the greatest talent. I think Shula and company realized this, although what followed was a lot of bad luck (Yatil Green).

The talent that has been coming through miami has been on the decline. Like meister said before, 10 years too late but better late than never. Keep on cheer leading though.

Seems like a PR move to pander to the fan base. Just pick players who are good, wherever they went to school...

I think it's probably a little pandering, but I think there's a valid point here. UM has always had talented players. But could you call Randy Shannon and ask a question, and trust his answer?

The point Ireland is making is that he respects Al Golden as a coach, which means he can now trust someone's opinion on UM players.

It would probably depend on the question. Having a good relationship would probably help you figure out which answers you can trust.

If he values his opinion and believes in what Golden's doing, then it's a no-brainer to start building that bridge.

Not saying we need a team full of Canes, but it's smart to build up your resources.

reestablishing football culture, and developing a new type of spirit..New fans..

If the dolphin front office at the time recognized what were talking about here, relationships would of been closer, intel would be better, access, maybe somebody would of recognized how great Ray Lewis's presence and game could of had on a franchise and culture..The man singedly built both 2,000 miles away..He should of been a Miami Dolphin.

PR move. But still, as much I dislike University of Miami, I hope Miller produce and progress. Heh, I feel like I'm exicted for the upcoming season.

    Go strong, young Dolphins.

The general caliber of prospects coming out is irrelevant.

It's still a school that consistently produces NFL talent and it's local. Again, it's no risk and all reward.

That said, even with the decline under Shannon, Miami has produced at least one very good player each year. That should continue/improve with Golden in charge.

I think the value in these types of relationships is with asking about the player's character. Is he competitive? A leader? Good in the lockerroom? There is a certain level of trust required if you're going to ask a coach those questions.
