Incognito was ranked 14th in run blocking guards, 16th in pass blocking guards, this was out of all 64 starting NFL guards. Bush averaged over 10 yards per carry in 2011 running thru Incognitos hole. All well documented and you say he is terrible ? That was playing inbetween a rookie and a LT that never fully recovered from pre season surgery and eventually was put on IR and oh , also no right side of an offensive line to get any help. And again, this is terrible ? LOL, man, you do not know how it really all works do you ? Add to that he put on the extra weight Tuna wanted in 2010 and Sparano wanted in 2011. He has since taken it off under the new regime. Lets face it, last year we could have played with cardboard figures of a RG and RT and not done much worse then we did. Carey and Columbo were not effective in many many maaaaany games at all.

We essentially played with no right side of an oline for two years now. I hear Jerry went the other way. Instead of losing weight the kid is now 360 plus on the scales, not good.

They should have put Incognito at center from day one and Pouncey at G.

Sometimes, a player just falls through the cracks, and has too much value to pass up regardless of current depth at the position. After day 2, and before day 3 began, a friend and I were talking about who was left. The two names that stuck out like a sore thumb were Lamar Miller and Bobby Massie. Both graded between 25 and 35 overall before the draft. We were asking one another, would Miami take Miller? We don't need a RB all that much, but knowing Ireland is so value driven, we both agreed Miller was a likely option if he fell to us. Ireland made sure he got him by moving up to the 2nd pick in round 4.
You never know what's going to happen at a position health wise either. One of the backs could get hurt in camp and had we not taken Miller, all the sudden our depth looks rather sparse.

Were you the guy who recently brought up how well Richie played in Paul Boudreau's zone blocking scheme in St Louis a few years ago? The same type of blocking scheme we're now going to employ?
Casual observers seem to pigeon hole Richie as a phone booth mauler. I do not know what they are watching but nothing could be further from the truth. When he was 300 lbs coming out of college, the dude ran a 4.84 forty at the combine for gawd sake. That was on the old slower combine running surface before the move to Lucas Oil Stadium too.

Yeah that was me. My wife is a born and bred Nebraska addict so we have the College game plan also. I grew up in Jersey so I am/was a big Penn State fan. I follow the kids after drafted and Incognito was an interesting one. He ran that at the combine on the old crap surface at Indy ? Wow. If memory serves me right he even ran that after popping his knee out on that surface during a drill correct ?

Not to drag it on but yes, I mentioned Boudreau and when he played for the Rams as being from the midwest, wife is also a Rams fan. Year you are talking about is 2006. Rams lost their starting center first game of the year, moved Incognito over to center. They then lost Orlando Pace the third game and then their starting RG halfway thru the season. Even with a patched up Oline, Jackson had his best season as a pro, running in Boudreaus zone blocking scheme. Boudreau also made Atlanta pretty dame good with the same scheme. He is now back at St. Louis and I expect him to do nothing less then improve their Oline 3million per cent.

All you cane fans remember Brett Romberg ? Kid plays on 3 NC teams, wins the Rimmington award for best college center then goes undrafted. You never know what teams think of these players or why they think of it. Romberg was on the PS at Jacksonville, then went to the Rams and was Incognitos backup at center, then went to the Falcons as a backup. I was just commenting on how kids do great in college, win national awards but when the draft comes they fall like rocks for reasons none of us know of, just like Romberg did. Best college center in the nation and goes undrafted. Go figure.

Sorry to ramble but Boudreau had Incognito playing around 310-315 lbs I expect him to be that way when camp is finished. People forget, these guys only do what they are asked to do. When he came to Miami they asked him to put on weight, he did, now they will ask him to trim down and he will.

Sorry but I dont think you know what you are doing.

Did you follow the team at all last year?

Richie incognito is not a center and has never been a center. So, why do you have him as a #2 center? Cook is our #2 center and you have him at guard. Your reasons? Richie is our starting guard and has been. So i have no idea why you would put him at a backup center.

Incognito has played center since college. He also played 3 positions for St. Louis, one of them being C. Having Incognito penciled in as backup C isn't a bad thing. Do you know what you are doing?

Ya i know exactly what I am doing. Richie may be a back up center but he is a starting guard and will be a starting guard for us next season.

Did you read the entire thread? The reasoning behind putting him with the centers was given.
Apparently you do not know what you are talking about, because Incognito has definitely played center. He played it part of the time in St Louis and he played it for Miami twice in the 2010 season. He started and played the entire game at center vs Chicago and Detroit.

Before you come on here and start off insulting people, you are better off knowing what you are talking about.
BTW, the reason Trowa listed him as a center was because on the official team site roster, they currently have his position as Center. Simple as that.

Not to interfere ( sp ) but I think what everyone is trying to say is, IF our starting center which is now Pouncey, gets hurt, Incognito would slide over and be the center. A lot of teams do it that way. Hey, if the kid can play LG, RG and C thats a good thing. Less players have to be dressed on game day. Some teams the center can only play that position, guards can only play guards and so forth. When you have players that can play 3 out of the 5 spots on the Oline ? Thats a good thing. Sorry to interrupt here.

I think you've got to plan for now on probably all of the draft picks making the roster. In Jeff Ireland's way of doing things, the young guy always has the advantage over the old guy. If they're close, they favor the young guy. Not exactly my favorite aspect of their roster management, but there it is.

    I'll go with...

QB: David Garrard, Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore (whom I'd trade by Week 6 if possible)
RB: Reggie Bush, Lamar Miller, Jonas Gray, Daniel Thomas
    FB: Jerome Messam
TE: Anthony Fasano, Charles Clay, Michael Egnew
WR: Brian Hartline, Davone Bess, Clyde Gates, Rishard Matthews, B.J. Cunningham
OT: Jake Long, Jonathan Martin, John Jerry
OG: Richie Incognito, Lydon Murtha, Artis Hicks, Josh Samuda
    OC: Mike Pouncey, Nate Garner

DL: Paul Soliai, Randy Starks, Jared Odrick, Tony McDaniel, Kheeston Randle, Ryan Baker
OB: Cam Wake, Olivier Vernon, Koa Misi, Josh Kaddu, Jamaal Westerman, Jacquies Smith
IB: Karlos Dansby, Kevin Burnett, Gary Guyton
DC: Vontae Davis, Sean Smith, Richard Marshall, Nolan Carroll, Quinten Lawrence
DS: Reshad Jones, Chris Clemons, Tyrell Johnson, Jimmy Wilson, Tyrone Culver

ST: Brandon Fields, Dan Carpenter, John Denney

You really think Murtha has a chance at Guard ? On my end I think he is a tackle and thats about it. If the kid could stay healthy he would not be half bad at a tackle position. From friends that live down there and have seen Jerry at events they say he is the size of a dam house. Way bigger/fatter then listed on the roster. IMO, if true and he does not trim down some in the next few weeks of conditioning, he may be looking at not being on the roster come Sept.

You could also add this. This is just from the second link you put up and you hit more info on it. 2006 was the year Boudreau was the Oline coach at St. Louis. 2007 was a disaster up there. Lost Orlando Pace forever, Bulger tanked the season bad, Jackson played only like 3 games. Isaac Bruce was gone, Holt was injured and the entire Oline looked like a mash unit due to injuries. Boudreau was used as the sacrificial lamb and fired and none of it was his doing.

2006 - Started all 16 games at three different positions on the offensive line . . . Joined tackle Alex Barron as one of only two offensive linemen to start each game . . . Blocking efforts helped QB Marc Bulger throw for a career-high 4,301 yards and 24 touchdowns along with RB Steven Jackson producing 1,528 rushing yards and 13 scores . . . Blocked for an offense which produced a 4,000-yard passer, a 1,500-yard rusher, and two 1,000-yard receivers, one of only four offenses in NFL history to accomplish the feat . . . Made NFL debut, starting at left guard vs. Denver (9/10) . . . Moved to center in Week 2 at San Francisco (9/17) . . . Started at his third position in 2006 when he started at right guard vs. Oakland (12/17).

Yes I do think he can play guard. Good straight ahead power owing to his lower body explosion. Good pad level. Definitely has the ability to get to the second level.

John Jerry would have to lose a crap tonne of weight to have a chance. He's much heavier then his playing weight.

I'd be pretty content if that were the final roster. Nothing is jumping out right now as someone who is missing. Though we did give a 3yr deal to Les Brown (I realize it's not like it's a guaranteed contract) so I'm curious if they won't do their best to find a spot for him on the roster assuming he doesn't completely fall on his face.

Makes me think of Kooch coming out of a game with a broken arm, having it put in a cast after a metal rod was inserted in it, and then bashing the cast to smithereens in the Super Bowl by repeatedly pounding Alan Page on the helmet with it.

    THAT was a guard.

I'm guessing the O-line will eventually be:
    LT-Jake Long, Lydon Murtha
    LG-Richie Incognito, Nate Garner
    C-Mike Pouncey, Ryan Cook
    RG-Jake Scott, Josh Samuda
    RT-Jonathan Martin, Artis Hicks

I'd love to see what kind of progression we will get out of our (on paper) mediocre receiving core... I think Philbin sees something with them that we dont know and hes got something up his sleeve. hopefully develops them like he did with the packers, none of their guys were first round players or hardly first year starters and look at them now. tons of credit given to a rodgers but lets just hope he turn tannehill into THE FRANCHISE QB were so eagerly anticipating

The only person I see that I feel is a glaring omission is Legadu Nanee (sp?) We gave him a FA deal and I don't know that we would have done that without intention of keeping him.

They do that all the time. Remember Marques Douglas and Charles Grant? Remember Eric Green? When it's close, Jeff Ireland always goes with the young player. Based on my own viewing of Naanee's games, I do not think he's going to blow away any of the younger players. It'll be close, and they'll keep the young guys.

Especially now that you can roll cap space easily into the next year, teams will be all that much more incentivized to cut veterans in favor of younger, cheaper players.

I doubt there was any signing bonus involved with the Les Brown deal. That seems like the typical deal you give to incoming NFL players. The guy is an accountant, a basketball convert. I doubt he's going to look good. He's athletic, but so is everyone in the NFL. I have him as a practice squad guy.

I guess I just figured there was some signing bonus given that it was 3 years. And no, I don't expect him to look good either. I hope he doesn't look bad though.

You are new here... I get it. However, you won't make many (or any) friends here with insulting posts. As it's been pointed out to you a few times, it would have been in your best interest to read the entire thread before posting. Had you done that, you would have seen the explanations given about your "doubts" concerning the original post.

My advice to you, should you wish to stick around, is to take a step back, and get to know the place before you post with both barrels blazing.

I've wondered in the past how many draft eligible players there were that never get drafted or signed as UDFA but never knew where to find that info.

    http://cache.profootballweekly.com/prospects/rankings/?page=21

If this list is complete, then there were 1033 draft eligible players this year. That means about 40%(or 400ish players) of them will never get signed or drafted.

    players drafted = 253
10-12 UDFA per team = 300-360ish (rough guess on my part with zero research cuz I'm too lazy to look )

That's a lotta unemployed college grads hitting the job market :pity:

You are all welcome for that bit of useless info

Only thing I'd disagree with is we never carry 10 OL on the 53 man roster. It's either 8 or 9 and 7 of them are active on game day. The reserves are always guys who can play multiple spots on the OL.

I like what I've seen of Josh Samuda and he is my favorite UDFA for making the roster.
