Who's the most exciting FA pickup you have ever seen the dolphins make?

Discussion in 'Miami Dolphins Forum' started by anthony0187, May 5, 2012.

  1. For me its def Chris Carter because he's my favorite receiver of all time.

I liked the Joey Porter pickup too.

Culpepper. While I wanted Brees more at first, I was roped into believing Dante was one of the most productive QBs to ever play the game by the famous "Culpepper Manifesto" thread over on finheaven. Poster basically brainwashed me into believing it.

RW wasn't a free agent fellas. But if he was, he'd easily be my choice. Far back for some of you, but Irving Fryar was awesome for us.

Add Mark Ingram and that trio is my favorite by far. That NFC East toughness they brought was fun to watch

And cris Carter was a lousy FA that had zero excitement when he signed. We were desperate and he was way past his prime

Yes, this. I remember when he dropped that game-winning TD. I wanted to kill him. All he does is catch TDs, my ***!

I guess I'd have to go with Dansby, but that may just be because he's the biggest name that comes to mind right now.

Neither Culpepper or Ricky were FAs. I'd likely have said Fryar, but I didn't pay attention to FAs at that age.

Are we talking exciting in terms of when the player was initially signed? Or after they played their tenure with us? Because I don't see how Carter or Culpepper merit discussion if it's the latter...

I'm gathering the question is based upon sheer "excitement" generated by the signing and not "excitement" generated by the FA's performance for the Phins.

Assuming that is correct, for me it would have been Keith Jackson.

If the question were "excitement" as in surprisingly good, I'd have to say Adewale Ogunleye and Orande Gadsden in recent memory.

As much as I hate to admit it, probably has to be Daunte Culpepper. I also wanted Brees, but when the decision was made I too tricked myself into believing we were better off with Culpepper.

In recent memory, my top FAs in terms of excitement were Culpepper and Wake. This isn't exactly the same thing, but I was also really excited when we signed Saban.

Before Tannehill, my favorite draft picks in terms of excitement were Marino and Anthony Carter. Everybody knows about Marino, but we also drafted AC in the 12th round when the USFL was about to break up. He was one of my favorite college WRs ever. However, Shula traded his rights to Minny for a back-up LB (Sendelien maybe?) before he ever played a down for us. He ended up being Minny's leading WR for years and went to a couple of pro bowls for them.

Kieth Jackson. Free agencies was new and going from Ferrell Edmmunds (I think) to him was night and day. Perfect fit with Marino.

Against the Vikings. Hated Cris Carter. Even was trying to convince the coaches on the sidelines that their kicker sucked and wouldn't make a field goal.

If it's trades ... the best was Paul Warfield. If it's free agent pick ups ... Miami hasn't done very good at that. But, as far as excitement for team at the time, the Jackson/Byers was my favorite. I too thought we'd be in the SB.

I saw Keith Jackson in a hotel breakfast area in Atlanta about four weeks ago. He was great. And, huge. Didn't recognize him at first but knew he played in the NFL (was wearing OU gear); asked him who he played for as we were talking (he had prayed and that started the conversation), he said, Philly, Miami and Green Bay and that sealed it! Really good guy. He did get his ring, but with GB, unfortunately.

    We got some 1 + 1 = 3 folks here ;p

For free agency (including undrafted signings) we've had some good ones. Karlos Dansby, Keith Jackson, Cameron Wake, Mark Dixon (The big CFL pickup before there was a Cameron Wake), Brock Marion (20 INT's in 5 seasons), Pennington (got us into playoffs), Garo Yepremian, Earl Morrall, Manny Fernandez, Davone Bess (undrafted), Jim Langer, Olindo Mare (undrafted), Adewale Ogunleye (undrafted), Randy Starks. All good ones of the top of my head.

Solid short term free agents: Joey Porter (17.5 sacks can't be dismissed), Jamie Nails (gave us probably the best year by any guard we have had in 15 years in 2002),

For trades I'm very surprised this name didn't come up considering it gave us the start to some great double DE years opposite J.T. that led into the Ogun/J.T. years.

That person......Trace Armstrong. Aquired via 2nd and 3rd round picks.

wasnt Terrell Buckley a free agent or did we trade for him ? Personally there was no free agenys that stand out since Jr Seau RIP I loved the Keith Jackson , Irving Fryar and Brian Griese moves and the reason Brian couldnt cut it was wanny sabatoged any qb not named Feidler . there was no free agents that Sparano and Parcells that excited me . we havent had a impact player brought in since Jr Seau so my favorite is Keith Jackson .

Junior Seau was traded for, he was not a free agent. Fryar was also a trade.

As for free agents that Parcells signed, how can any Dolphins fan not like Randy Starks?
