I doubt Derrick Dennis has much chance of making the team. The guys I'm really watching for are:

    1. RB Jonas Gray, Notre Dame
    2. WR Derek Moye, Penn State
    3. WR Jeff Fuller, Texas A&M
    4. All the corners

What do these two corners Miami signed have that is special? Hughes from Maryland lost his job under a new coach during his senior year, but he did earn it back with 3 games remaining. Smith was called by one of the fan message boards as the worse corner on the team. I think Ireland missed the ball on Pellerin. The kid from Cal Lutheran sounds like more of a keeper as a tryout player than the two guys actually signed. I don't know much about the Williams kid from Miami other than he started. I believe the additional corner is probably not on the team yet.

So you don't think I am questioning your knowledge, I actually like the other names you mentioned. Moye has an uphill battle not necessarily due to Cunningham, but more so due to Matthews and Fuller. And I believe Samuda has a better chance than Dennis.

Jeff Fuller is going to be a player for us. I had the Bowl game on my DVR that I hadn't seen... Tannehill and Fuller connected very well in that game. Huge play late to seal it on third down. One on one coverage and Ryan trusted that Fuller would go up and get the ball. He seems to have all the tools needed.

It's interesting. I wonder at what point did our FO know Fuller wasn't going to get drafted? Was that an ace in Jeff Ireland's back pocket?

And I'm a believer in Gray. Our preseason games... particular on offense... all four quarters... going to be fun to watch.

It is the pace that is catching guys like this. Cunningham and Matthews both spoke of the speed of practice in interviews with troy drayton, who told them it would get worse once the veterans reported. That can beat a guy up so to speak.

Fuller fails to excite me whenever I watch him play. I think he's overrated. If Derek Moye had a Ryan Tannehill throwing to him, he breaks records at Penn State.

Dolphins corners after Richard Marshall are terrible yet we still have two guys we have to roster after Davis, Smith and Marshall. That means a UDFA has a really good chance of making the roster at that position.

    I meant to include Samuda.

I keep coming back to Derek Moye. I've watched a number of his games now. I watched his game against Alabama in 2010 and I linked all the sections of that video that had me interested. I watched him against Alabama in 2011 as well. I watched his big performance against Indiana.

It's not perfect but he's got a great NFL body and NFL athletic ability. Even though he was skinnier, I think he was generally a tougher load to handle than Jeff Fuller. I think he has more speed than Fuller. I think he has the ability to be the best receiver among the four that Miami picked up in this year's rookie class getting off the press. He uses his hands really well to defeat the hands of the guy trying to jam him, and I'm talking about the likes of Dre Kirkpatrick and Dee Milliner. He creates separation vertically. He can make circus catches but his hands need to be just a little stronger in difficult catch situations. Actually all four of the receivers Miami grabbed have that in common. He has run after catch ability which he showed on slants against Bama in 2010, but in 2011 they sat on his slant routes more and the Penn State staff didn't respond with any sluggos.

It's hard to describe just how bad the QB play was at Penn State though. I've watched a lot of good QBs this Draft season and so it makes watching Penn State's QBs that much more appalling. I look at the routes Penn State generally had Moye run, and I look at the quality of the QBs, and honestly I'm not sure how he got a single catch. Usually if you've got a good receiver like Moye you work him on a lot of easier, high percentage passes, and let him work his magic from there. Penn State didn't do that. They had him running a lot of stuff that is better for good passers to be throwing to.

He's like the fourth most productive receiver in PSU history. If he had a Ryan Tannehill throwing to him I think he might have broken some records there.

    Lee,
The two videos of Trenton Hughes add up to over 40 minutes of footage. Did you view them and if so, what was your take? Looking at just those 40 minutes, he impressed me a great deal.

That reminds me of something Philbin said on Friday. He said the o linemen were gassed, which is what he expected. That you could tell they were gassed because they were losing their fundamentals/technique and breaking down during drills. Certainly that's the plan. They want to see how a player reacts in those circumstances. I'm sure the military guys here can appreciate this process. Hell week... break a man down to find out what he's made of.

His build isn't a problem anymore. He's 6'4" and 209 lbs and that's fine. Any heavier and he wouldn't have the quickness you want. But his strength needs to get better.

In fairness to Hughes I did not watch all his video. I was more concerned with him losing his starting job, but he did earn it back and I was impressed witih that. In what I did view he did well. Most of that footage was from 2010.

My main concern with Moye is he has relatively small hands at 8 1/4".

Has anyone heard on if Miami is going to even sign any of the tryout guys? As I have stated frequently, I would love to see Chaz Walker on this team. You find a way to use a guy like that, but I am not sure Ireland sees past the size issue. But he did bring him in for a tryout, and I give him credit.

Just read on twitter that Addison Lawrence, Chaz Walker, and AJ Guyton were not offered contracts after this weekend. For what ever reason, they were singled out as not being offered according to Cantor?

In the past we have complained about lack of media access and information, but I don't hear that much this year. I guess we are giving the Dolphins a pass and Philbin did downplay the rookie camp. But I will say that was the least amount of information on rookie camp I can remember getting. In the age of twitter and facebook I do believe it will be difficult for teams to hide tryout players and rookie free agent signings. Would have liked to know if any of the tryout guys made an impression, but not a necessary thing for living lol.

I don't think anyone is complaining b/c we've got FAR more access and information this offseason than we have ever got over the past 3 regimes. I honestly couldn't disagree with you more. The access/info/openness this offseason has been very refreshing and enjoyable.

Right, the one guy that was sitting in for Omar was tweeting essentially play by play on Friday... until they put the hammer down on tweets. So even the one day where the media could give us something, the Dolphins still kept the wraps on what they could do from the facility. The Saturday and Sunday practices were completely locked down though. One of the players could have injured themselves and we'd know nothing about it.

Justin Haulcy-Bateman has not been signed yet. He is waiting for a Dolphins' offer and if they don't make one, he is heading down to the San Diego Chargers' rookie camp this weekend for a tryout. This according to his twitter account.
