PFF has done a study on top run defending CBs. RICHARD MARSHALL Tackles in Run Game: 1st Defensive Stops: 3rd Run Stop Percentage: 2nd Link: http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/05/05/2011-run-stop-percentage-cornerbacks/ It seems that Richard Marshall is not only a good athletic cover corner, but great agains the run as well. If we line up him and Vontae together, we could have a very physical CB tandem. Even if he ends up playing nickel packages, draws and runs on short downs to go may be hard to convert against MIA.
That's outstanding information from a source that I'am beginning to trust more and more.. I mean he's leading this category in front of full time corners and he's not a full time corner..45 percent of his play was at safety. We really need this guy to play well for us, and I really want Sean Smith pushed..This is very encouraging. "flexibility of what were asking him to do is something that has tremendous value for us, to play outside, to play in the nickel, to play back at safety some, which he's done all those things, that's not easy, it takes not only ability, but it takes a mentality to be able to do that and that's important for your team..He's a very good football player who understands the game, he's a great example for our younger players with his toughness and his attention to detail"...Whisenhunt quote.. He's 27 years old, came from Fresno state, so we have some inside intel on the player, and you know when you come from that program, the dude plays tough, and will pop the sh$& out of you, I went back and looked at some of his college reps, bout the size of will Allen, and like Will, has no fear, but unlike Will, he can catch and has some return ability when he gets his hands on the ball..Last year he had 70 tackles, 3 ints, and two sacks, playing all over the freakin place. Let's hope Ireland hit on the former second rounder, and he will make a weakness of ours a bit more stable..Let me tell ya something, him, VD, and Jimmy will all pop you in the mouth.
That's a good vision DJ. I'm eager as hell to see if our new DC can shape the defense around the talent of our secondary.
This same source which you are beginning to trust also has only one Dolphin listed in their top 101 NFL players. This is Cameron Wake at position #16. Jake Long did not make the list, but I am sure it is because of his play last year which was sub par because of injuries. It would appear that PFF understands the real problem with the Dolphins. That problem being that the Dolphins lack top tier players on their roster. The Dolphins have a lot of very mediocre players and no real play maker on the entire team and that is why they have been a very mediocre team for the past three years. Hopefully the 2012 draft class will be an upgrade over the last four drafts conducted with Ireland as the teams GM. Unfortunately we probably won't get much help from most of this draft class for another year or two.
I wrote a response then deleted it, I misunderstood what you said, I though you meant Wake wasn't on the list.. So Wake was 16?, do you have the list, would be interesting to see and compare?, Jake Long is the best left tackle in the game when healthy, I see no reason why he shouldn't be healthy this season, says he's 100 percent.
Sorry I didn't get back sooner with a response, but I signed off after posting my comments on this thread yesterday. All I did to find the list was to go onto the PFF site and it had a listing of their top 101 players in the NFL for 2011.
Last yr's CFL to NFL steal, Brandon Browner, had 54 tackles, Marshall had almost 70. Sounds like a good player.
I must wonder how many tackles where Marshall was the primary run defender(end around or toss sweeps - to his side) versus sifting through the trash and being the last line of defense. Impressive nevertheless.....
