Thank you. I have a good number of tats myself, most can be 'hidden' so to speak, but I have a tat on each forearm. The tats are my children's names. And frankly, if the job thinks that those visible tats define me, then I think they need to accept that what I would call their ignorance defines them as well. I can understand their point about a professional appearance in the workplace etc., but this also isn't the 1930's anymore either and if my work is up to snuff, and my general appearance is managed appropriately, it shouldn't be an issue. Not one to get me fired or remove me from consideration for the job anyways. Tattoos for the most part do not carry the stigma they used to, nor should they. Its a social norm and those change with every generation. Consider that 100 years ago a woman couldn't show her damn ankles without causing a tizzy. If anyone brought that up now as an issue they'd likely be committed.
As long as the new Dbess finds le endzone, I really do not care what his hair or tats look like. Td's fellas, it's all about Td's
I don't care for tats personally, nor will I look down. Unfortunately, for many, perception is reality. Regardless of how successful or smart you think you are; if you look like a freak, odds are, people that don't know you will treat you as such.
To me, I think maybe they can screw people up down the road, especially if they get readily apparent ones. DBess and footballers can get away with them, "average person" maybe not so much.
if i had dreads i would cut them off before i played football just due to the heat and the fear of getting pulled down by them and hurting my neck or something. as for tattoos give me a break tattoos every walk of person has tattoos i have had teachers both male and female have tattoos its just art on your body
I agree. Sounds like someone is basing his money management skills by his tattoos. There is no logical reason he is any more or less likely to manage his money well, simply because he likes to get tattoos. Unless of course, someone believes getting tattoos is an indication of overall poor judgement, which would seem pretty silly to me.
For whatever it's worth, when I was getting my acl repaired the anestesiologist walked in with a Mohawk about 6 inches up and from his neck and arms there was not a single inch of skin not covered by ink. Not once did I fear for my life because he had silly hair and a bunch of tats. If you're smart enough you can do anything regardless how you look.
I fell asleep and woke up in the 60's...we are judging people based on appearance and appearance alone. **** off with that rubbish.
He's a ninja, he's black, he's black ninja! I assume your post was referencing the single greatest ninja movie ever made. Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
I understand that, what I'm saying is you have to be well educated for that career path, obviously terrible hair and a bunch of ink doesn't effect intelligence levels. It's silly to judge a person based on tats and hair.
Tats? What? 21 Century. Its all about choice my man! :-) You sound like his mom! I couldnt care less what he looks like. Its called being an individual and himself. I like Bess no matter what he looks like!
I decided a long time ago to do whatever the ___ I wante3d to do, and accept the consequences of those actions. Two things on the Never do list for me are needles and little boys. Tattoos on others, dreadlocks mullets crew cuts, who cares?! Not my body, not my problem, dig it? D Bess is going to be D Best reciever on this team this year...yeah I said it, he is way smarter than the average picnic basket.
My nephew just graduated with a masters degree in actuary science. He's got tattoos and ear rings and spiked platinum blonde hair. He's had over 10 offers at 70K+ ENTRY level. But I do have a problem with the long hair, especially with teams that play in Florida. You cannot tell me that all that hair does not make the player significantly hotter and more prone to dehydration and that can't be good.
Agree. "Judge a man by the depth of his mind, not by the length of his hair" ~ Unknown If a company doesn't want to hire me based on my hair being a little longer, or the fact that I have a few tatoos, then that is a company I wouldn't want to work for anyway. That type of Ultra-Conservative, high and tight, narrow minded element of our society wants everyone to conform to the "Father Knows Best" model. ** News Flash ** Father Knows Best went off the air in 1960, nobody spends an entire career with one company anymore, most homes are now "two income" households, and people have started to desire individuality and personal freedoms. Personally, I think it's past time to judge others by such shallow, superficial means as hair length or ink... and start judging by intelligence, ability (gasp!), character and communications skills, etc... you know.....the stuff that REALLY matters.
The last player I was worried about was Davonne Bess. The ONLY WR I'm not worried about is Davonne Bess.
I couldn't agree more. I am doing research at UF and one of the Doctors has sleeves on both arms; one tattoo is a picture of an organic molecule: cortisol (the stress hormone lol). He wears dress shirts to cover them up, but he is great with patients and one of the best Doctors I have ever been around. He is smart as hell and if you saw him walking around in his non-work clothes you would think he is more likely to be in a biker gang or be a tattoo artist than a Doctor. You can't judge a book by the cover.
where the rubber meets the road it's all about football everybody has to step up & compete to play a WR you must catch the ball
I like the dedication aspect, however I look at Troy Polamanu (sp?) and all that hair hasn't seemed to hurt his game.
This topic is getting a bit "hairy".......I "dread" the outcome, when multiple generations of Dolphins Fans are at each others throats. Differences in expectations will naturally occur between generations, and that is okay.
The differences have nothing to do with generations. I've been a Dolphins fan since 1967 and tattoos and dreads are a 100% non issue to me. So it ain't like the old bastards are all anti tat/dread and the younger ones are all more enlightened.
If nothing else, he's been liberated! Long hair for dudes becomes more trouble than you'd like. It's also cooler living in FLA. And not only do you feel lighter, you look lighter. When I cut mine years ago, I got mad compliments from females saying I'd slimmed down, when all I got was a haircut. Donating it to Locks of Love got bonus points. As for tats, I think it's pretty short-sighted for a lot of guys. You'll have a hard time convincing me that 21 year old guy covered in tats did for little more than social conformity or addiction (to tats). Just my opinion. Doesn't make someone less of a man. Just perhaps immature.
You're not really serious are you? No one is that deluded to think that a player's determination to the game varies based on haircut, right? RIGHT? RIGHT?????????
While I agree with the points about long hair, I choose to wear mine a bit longer anyway, I like the way I look with longer hair, as does my wife. So, since they are the only ones I care about "liking" my sometimes shoulder length hair, I do what I wan... because I can. About the ink though.... I chose not to get a tat until I was a little older, I was almost 30 when I got my first. My wife and I just went last year and got another each.... I'm 48, and she is 50... and while we both may at times act a bit silly or "not so grown-up-ish".... I don't consider either of us "immature". It wasn't for "social conformity" reasons.... it was because we liked the artwork and it has meaning to us...
To me, the funny thing will be after Bess has his best season ever in 2012, the anti-dreads crowd will probably crow that his success was due to cutting them off, when in actuality it will be because he is in an offense that best suits his skill set and would have had the same results even if he had kept the dreads.
Those awful dreads. Just think, if Ricky would have cut his off before the 2002 season, he would have probably gained 5,000 yds rushing, averaged 10 yards a carry, the team would have been undefeated and of course won the Super Bowl. It just didn't happen because of those awful dreads.
