I personally don't believe the angle that Ross has ever tried to influence the football side. I believe that he's a fan who says stuff like about wanting a QB or a WR, but defers to his football people rather than mandating anything. I see many people here and in the media who look at Ross' desire to add celebrities and entertainment to the experience and have taken that to mean that Ross also meddles on the football side. My read of him does not agree with that position.

Potential is a huge word, isn't it ?? Anyway, yeah he can be a better owner than he has been. He seems to be learning to curb his appetite for getting into the workings of the football ops, even tho, if you believe all the stuff, some of his 'getting involved' has been good (rejecting Orton and Palmer, for example). All that said, the best owners are seen and not heard from...

Then again...just think how perceptions will change when/if we start winning again...

Don't mean to give you a hard time, Raf, but jumping into a fray with Harbaugh, then screwing with Sparano, apparently nixing a trade or potential trade or two...that stuff is textbook 'messing on the football side of the team'. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking everything he's done, but he's been involved in football decisions...

I don't believe those are all the facts. For example, my understanding of the Orton trade nix was that he asked Ireland to explore the QB options and what the costs would be and also what would be available in the draft. Ireland provided an assessment and advised against the trade specifically saying that he thought there were better options in the next draft. Ross deferred to Ireland's opinion. The window dressing made it seem that Ireland wanted the trade and that Ross said "no".

I don't want to get into rehashing the old stuff, but if I was Ross, inheriting the team I did at that time, having Parcells quitting on me, I would of went after the best coaching prospect I'd ever seen too.

If the article is accurate then I’m very encouraged by the way Philbin and Ireland seem to be working together. I’m also impressed at how fast things seem to be changing, in a positive fashion, since coach showed up. I think there may be a new “smartest guy in the room” and it’s about time.

It's because they listened to a talk called "Go For It!", given by that legendary motivational speaker Matt Foley.

Me too, but rarely in the way he intends it to be.

Ross has demonstrated through his actions, that he is smart enough to put the right people in place and give them room to do what they do best. I don't get all the Ross bashing that I read on this site, especially when Ross makes some passing comment(s) about getting this organization back to a respected, winning franchise. He spent over $1 BILLION for this team, if I spent that much money for anything you can dang sure expect I'll have a few things to say about my investment and where I want it to go.

IMVHO from what I've seen, Ross is on the total opposite end of the spectrum of owners who meddle constantly like Dallas' Jerry Jones or Redskins owner Dan Snyder. If anything Ross seems more to me like Kraft in putting good people in place and backing their decisions that make the team better.

I personally plan to support Ross as long as I see that his personnel are left to make key decisions about the product that goes on the field. I do not understand why Ross is so vilified for trying to create some buzz like atmosphere by bringing in J-Lo/Esteban, Williams sisters and others like them as owners of minutiae parcels of ownership. So long as Ross leaves his FO the decision making power to build a long-term winning tradition back to this franchise, he has 100% of my support. If I wasn't so flat out broke I'd back that by buying season tickets, but alas all I can keep doing is buying items like team shirts/hats/towels/etc. like I have throughout my home (as hidden as my wife can make them)
