The Dolphins signed former Aggies fullback Jorvorskie Lane (5-11, 277), who played under Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman. Lane ran to 49 touchdowns & 2,090 yds on 461 carries, but went undrafted in 2009 after drafted ballooning up to 295 pounds. he has played both the Indoor Football League and the Arena Football League in the interim. could Sherman know something of value with this signing? is this another Irish acorn strewn amidst the confusion of the day? will Jorvorskie be canon fodder or the real deal & a steal in 2012? short yardage ----> pass & lead blocker, we shall see.
I think a big issue is that he can't block worth a ****. Or at least, he couldn't at Texas A&M. He's a physical ball-carrier but his technique and awareness was atrocious. That doesn't mean he couldn't have improved since then, but I don't know why we wouldn't have kept Lex Hilliard or signed Ovie Mughelli.
Jorvorskie Lane. Wow, that's a blast from the past. Relatively speaking. Don't know about his ability as a true FB, pretty sure he's just a camp body.
Sounds to big for his size to block down field whats his 40 times? 40 was 5.0 in 2009 at 6'0" 297lbs. That weight just sounds fat and slow to me. Doesn't he need to get down field fast enough to make a block?
I don't think that kind of speed is problematic for blocking. There are pulling guards slower than that who are quite good and able to get to wherever they need to on the second level.
His pro day he ran a 4.87 40 at 277 lbs 18 bench reps shuttle 4.41 vertical 32.5 broad jump 8'6'' L drill 7.58 http://v4.texags.com/Stories/1628
