NOT BUYING MADDEN !!

The only way I play Madden is by starting a franchise and playing with two-three friends on the same couch, on the same screen. Locked positions (I'm always QB and RDE), others are CB-WR, RB-MLB, and WR-LDE.

With this new connected franchise BS, or online franchise whatever the f they call it, the only way the four of us can play on the same team is by having four consoles, four tvs, and four copies of Madden in the same room.

That is disgusting if true, but what I've been told by someone following the forums, it is true.

F U EA. What about a family with two 8 and 10 yr old brothers that only have one TV? They can't play together anymore? BS.

/end rant

So how do people like Madden 12 (Last year's version). I'm thinking of picking it up instead of 13, since it is on sale for $10 this week at Best Buy.

Very good reason it's only $10.00

Quite possibly one of the worst video games I have ever wasted money on. They removed the best things, and added a bunch of pointless BS.

Madden needs a competitor. Once EA got exclusive rights to NFL rosters and naming hopes for a great game were largely dashed. They needed someone to keep them honest and keep pushing them.

Every year we see these great youtube videos that get our hopes up then we play and don't get near the same gameplay. Expect the same trash as last year.

Has there ever been an honest Madden review that said something along the lines of "There are small changes, but they don't really add anything, and there isn't much here to make it worth the premium over last year's game"?

Maddens are Maddens...

It's a football game, it's not like you can create a brand new storyline or anything.

It doesn't have to be a published magazine to make it a review... I was talking about reviews from this site.

I know some people will hate on Madden no matter what but I would give him an unbiased (IMO) review of the game... I thought last year's version was garbage and my opinion of the game will weigh heavily on the Connected Career mode because that is what I enjoy. I could care less about online gameplay because 50% of the players online will quit if they're losing and the other 50% will pull bull**** glitches and won't play it realistically.

Like shh like this;

There are ways around this, like keeping a RB in the flats, but you know how many of these f'n videos there are. Not to mention the offensive "money" plays. It is BS. That is why me and friends would get together once in a while and play against the CPU with a coop offline dynasty over a few beers....or a few beers too many. Unfortunately, the new madden won't allow that.....every single player has to be online. Yes, Franchise doesn't support multiple local players on one screen. No buy for me. I bought NCAA as you can tell.

Anyway, to get the best out of Madden we used custom slider sets and got the gameplay to be pretty fair and had great games. Apparently, with the new Madden, online franchises and stuff won't allow custom sliders, so you guys will be stuck with All-Pro or All-Madden. No in between - no house rules, etc. Take it for what it's worth.

I can't say the ratings are bad for us... Some may dislike Moore's rating but the dude can play like an 85 rated QB then drop down to a 70 rated QB. If Garrard wins the job, his rating will go up during the updates because I think he will perform well for us.

Demo is up on Xbox live presently. Downloading as we speak, doubt it'll be done before I head to work though. So, if you're on XBL it should be available now, PSN later today. I read it usually updates around noon, or 2pm?

Demo will let you play a full game with two choices (49ers vs giants, seahawks vs redskins), with commentary, and different difficulty levels, no sliders though.

http://www.easports.com/madden-nfl/news/article/madden-nfl-13-demo-aug-14

Initial reviews/impressions from OS forums seem to be pretty positive, but its early. Everyone is going to decide for themselves anyways.

EDIT: My initial impressions...
I got in about a half this morning before I had to head to work. Was surprised the almost 2gb download only took a hour for me.

Must say, I really like the addition of the infinity engine from the little bit I saw. I was able to break through some tackles and keep going with Gore. It was nice to feel like you still had some control of the player after initially getting hit, rather than loosing all control and going into a canned animation.

Visually, I think it blows NCAA out of the water as well. Everything looks much more crisp, and smooth. From the jerseys, to the helmets, and stadiums. Biggest improvement though is the grass. In NCAA it looks horrible, it looks great in Madden. Don't know why there's such a difference.

Commentary is a real nice change too from the bit I've heard. Much better than Collinsworth and Gus from previous years. Makes it feel like a brand new game.

Can't wait to get home and try it out some more. To me, initially it seemed like NCAA, but much better thanks to Infinity and visuals.

Downloaded the demo yesterday after much anticipation. I thought the game feels a lot like NCAA, which is a good thing.

I played 2 games. First as redskins on pro and killed them 42-0. Flynn threw 6 ints. The game feels a lot smoother, but some of the tackling feels weird and players are falling all over the place.

Played nyg vs sf on all pro and this was a great game. I won 14-13 and it was a very competitive game. I set the speed to slow and think that works better. Either sf dline is unstoppable or nyg online sucks as I was getting pressured every play. Had a pick 6 to seal the victory.

Overall game is a huge upgrade to last year.

Pros and cons after 2 games:

Pros:
-feels smoother and realistic then previous years
-WR actually work the sidelines
-back shoulder throws are deadly
-user int are a lot easier and zone seems to work better
-commentary is improved

Cons:
-shadows are terrible, can't see the numbers on any players as the shadow makes them just look like a black jerseys
-tackling is hard as the CPU was zig zagging
-I never knew what people meant when they said zig zag thru offensive line but have figured it out on this game and makes running very easy. Easy to break out of scramble by zig zagging

Let me know if the same shoddy graphical issues from last year are still there like disgusting grass, jagged edges like Atari games, etc. I am curious.

Classes started early morning for me today but did sneak one game in last night. I haven't played 11 or 12 besides the demos so my comparisons are mainly from 10 to 13. For me it feels like there was a change made with 11, with 11, 12, and 13 seeming similar and 10 as different. I did really like how 10 played, but a part of that was also logging so many hours that I was really comfortable with it. The one game I played I enjoyed the presentation and the physics engine is interesting. There were instances where it was cool and instances where it was completely unnatural, not too surprising since it's the first year it's being used and also a demo.

The graphics look excellent to me. The grass looks 1000 times better than the mess that is in NCAA13 this year. The field degredation is excellent. Small little patches here and there, not big brown spots like the past. just small spots that look like a players cleats actually ripped it out.

The one graphical issue right now is lighting. Seattles white road jerseys, and the Skins alternates that are in the demo almost appear black on the game play camera view due to shadows. Now I've heard that Seattles jerseys in the game are not actually the white oens, but they are a greyish colored alternate jersey which may be adding to the darkness. It needs tweaking either way though.

Other than that, I think it looks really good. I'm sure if you looked hard to find some issues you could, but I think you could with every game if you wanted to.

You're on XBox bro. PS3 had worse graphics than XBox last year...considerable difference. PS3 had a patch to fix some of it. It is PS3's more complex lighting system or whatever that was the cause.

Either way, glad it is much better for the 360, but here is to hoping the do the same for PS3.

Did they seriously remove Fantasy drafts from Madden? Also haven't played Madden in a long time but can you download custom rosters like NBA 2K series?

I played two games. Lost to the 49ers 14-13 (that defense was stifling, couldn't run on them) and beat the Seahawks 14-10 (big time KR for a TD with Banks, aw yeah)... played on All-Pro. I was impressed with the presentation... it seemed more like a football broadcast in past years. I love the theme music they have going too.

Gameplay seemed pretty good. I've said in the past that gameplay isn't a dealbreaker for me but I was fine with it. The physics engine seemed improved from past years and overall seemed fairly realistic. I agree with the shadows comment; the lighting needs a little bit of work but it's nothing to cry over. The 5 minute quarters with the run-off time was pretty "eh" to me... I felt the game was rushed so I would definitely be playing on 12-15 minute quarters with the run-off and the 10 second playclock (playclock/gameclock runs off til 10 seconds remaining after play is called in MOST situations).

I didn't really pay attention to the grass (I told myself to take a closer look at it but forgot). The commentary was pretty solid. In NCAA, I constantly get pissed at the commentary because it's so out of whack but I didn't feel like it was the case for this game. Granted it wasn't perfect but it was pretty solid for a video game.

I am all about the single player franchise/superstar mode though so I am holding out hope for some big time changes in that department. Overall though I was impressed with the demo and it makes me feel a little more comfortable buying the game on the release date instead of holding out a few days.

Yeah, it'll be back in 2014 supposedly. They built the Connected Careers mode from the ground up so they focused on the base of this game mode (probably the actual franchise side of things) instead of ensuring a minor (IMO) few things would make the game this year such as fantasy drafts. I've never understood the big deal about fantasy drafts but I am more of a sim guy...

I just played 2 more games on all-pro

Sf vs nyg and I won 52-0. Moss is a beast on the go route. At halftime I put in Colin kapernick and didn't notice a difference in qb.

Played Seattle vs redskins and it was 7-7 going into the 4th. I was playing with Russell Wilson and he was a little more inaccurate then smith/colin. Ended up winning 21-7, but this game was a lot more competitive.

Im not sure of this game is just a lot easier or what but I use to get my butt kicked on 12 on all-pro and on the demo I'm killin it.

They have been lazy. With no competition they have gotten lazy. Now that their hold on the NFL license is nearing its end they are making an attempt to improve Madden however leaving out relatively simple features is just bad time management. I'm sure designing TD celebrations or in game madden card game was more important than Fantasy draft, roster edits, and NCAA class imports for online.

New engine is a huge plus but their decisions for online play is horrible as it also affects single player.

So yeah its safe to say EA has gotten lazy with Madden every year a new madden comes with a new roster update hooray. Lets hope the gameplay is as good as they advertise because that will be a huge let down if its not.

I like the decision a lot. It does suck for 2013, however it makes every year after better. It cuts down resources needed to add in more features while making it a hell of a lot better.

Plus they finally put in a quality control. Hopefully this will make it so the next gen doesn't lose a bunch of features like last time.
