But there is no evidence that he covered anything up! He did what he was supposed to do? Even if in hindsight it wasnt enough and he admits its not enough then its still not criminal and its still not evidence that he decided to try and hide something. He told, in detail, the entire story to Schultz and Spanier as it was told to him by McQueary. So what exactly did he cover up? It is the responsibility of security and the university president to handle matters that pertain to football? Where does Paterno's responsibility end? Paterno is not a cop nor is he the school president even if he was the most revered figure on campus. I said he should have done more 3 pages ago. As an employee of the school he has a responsibility to the school. I never said the campus police dont answer to the school, I said they answer to the state first since it is a state university.
I really don't know what else to say. If you want to believe he wasn't part of the cover-up, that's your prerogative I suppose. Like I said, it's my opinion anyone who believes that is either naive or ignorant.
It is your opinion just as I am entitled to mine. I think its presumptuous to assume he automatically covered something up when the evidence is just the opposite. I dont think either Stitches or I am ignorant at all in having a different opinion then you and others. I just dont agree with your point of view on this bro. Normally we are very much on the same wavelength and I think you know this.
Fair enough. We will agree to disagree. And perhaps it was out of line to insinuate that you (and Stitches) are ignorant. So for that I apologize, but I do feel strongly in my stance. And you are right, you and I usually share the same opinions and viewpoints on a lot of topics. This time we're very much on opposing sides. It's all good bro.
Boik, in all honesty and with all due respect, you are refusing to understand this. They should answer to the state, but they did not. Everyone knew they wouldn't. Even Paterno, or he 's dumb. Which is it? The reason he'd know they wouldn't is because he is powerful and has been the face of the university for decades. He knows the politics....or he's an idiot. There is no other option. You have to choose between the two.
I agree. But I think this debate has run its course. The Paterno supporters are never going to admit either of those options. We wont sway them, and they won't sway us. I think it's sad, but it is what it is.
Dude, Albert Pike conceived the idea of the New World Order...He started it all in America, right? I'm not saying that there aren't any good men in the cult, I just read things. My motto is love the sinner, hate the sin. I, myself, meditate and study matters related to this topic. So I can definitely understand the esoteric/metaphysical truths that the masons aspire to. However, ignorance is everywhere 50/50, and I could also see the red flags in this cult despite it's compartmentalized blind believers. Regardless, it raises a red flag for me when I connect the dots. Creepy little Pennsylvanian town, worshiping the football god, the DA gets killed suspiciously kinda a weird wickerman scenario. The setup is rife for child trafficking and prostitution. What is the big giant leap? What do you know?
Umm, let's not exaggerate. Penn State is no Stanford, it's not even the best school in PA or the Big Ten wrt academics.
Given JOePas status, I don't believe it was about automAtically covering it up, I think he was just hoping it would stop and go away so the program would not suffer. I'm glad the guy was fired, but I'm also realistic that he's an old fashioned guy and today's standards are not the ones he lives by, he lives b the standards of other 85 year old men.
I understand perfectly, I just do not and will not agree with you or anyone else. What you arent understanding is they are being punished for their failure to answer to the state. As for your assumption that Paterno knew they wouldnt or "hes dumb" I just dont see it that way. Why couldn't Paterno just feel that: 1) Its not his battle to fight. Followed by 2) He is a football coach, not a law enforcement officer, a lawyer or a university president. Followed by 3) He went to his bosses and did what he was required to do. If he felt it wasnt his position to do more or wasnt sure what to do next I think thats where his failure was but its not criminal. I think that Joe Pa definitely did not do enough. I think what a lot of people miss though is that Joe Pa had an undying loyalty to Penn State. He passed on litterally tens of millions of dollars more when he passed on chances to coach the New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, The Pittsburgh Steelers, and The University of Michigan. He donated roughly a one-third of his career earnings back to the university. He graduated a respectable amount of his players, helped thousands of young men find their way in life and I feel like 1 bad decision is making him appear like hes some sort of monster that he is not.
I'm sad that Paterno died. Why? Because ultimately part of this story is dying with him. What he knew, when he knew it, gone.
I'm not a lawyer, a cop or a university president, and I know a large corporation is going to try and hide a scandal like this. So does everyone else. JoePa knew this, he wasn't a doddering old ball coach. He was a lifelong face of the university. He knew the politics. What do you mean everyone ois missing that he was loyal to the school? That's exactly what we are saying. The school's rep was more important than a raped child to Paterno. You do not report rape to your superiors, you report rape to the law....unless you value the school's rep above a child who was raped, then you tell your superiors who also value the school's rep more and they sweep it under the rug and you never follow up. Every child Sandusky raped after the one McQueary caught him with is on Sandusky, McQueary, Paterno and everyone else up through the chain that valued the school's rep more than the safety of those children. By the way, you are confirming what I said, but you refuse to let yourself admit it, because you have some weird roadblock when it comes to Penn State and Paterno.
To the posters talking about the good outweighing the bad, how do you measure a man? Are men measured when everything is warm and fuzzy? Or do they measure a man in times of adversity? Joe Paterno did numerous good things, and one bad thing. It is a tough balancing act, and unfortunate that it happened.
His one thing allowed allowed more child rape to happen. Every time Sandusky raped another kid after that incident count against Paterno and everyone else at Penn State that swept this under the rug.
Yeah, I think too many people were implicated for them not to try to cover it up...That's all I'm saying, just suspend judgement until more information comes through. I definitely see the need for myself to do the same.
Bad day today for the "Stanford" of the East......goo thing they got 200M in donations last year, they are going to need it paying off all the civil suit judgements... Shut the f%cking program down....shut it down now....these clowns...
Particularly bad: Link Basically JoePa talked the board out of reporting Sandusky to the actual authorities. That is indefensible. Everyone from McQueary to the Penn State prez need to be brought up on criminal charges. The football program should be shuttered for awhile.
What NCAA did to SMU with the death sentence would look like a light scolding compared to what I'd do to Pedo St. They'd be done indefinitely. We see incompetance from the coaches to the AD to the campus security. We have complete and lost control here. A punishment does not correct this, this needs to be shut down so this program is sullied as badly as possible. And I'm sick of the stupid Paterno family trying to make excuses for Joe. That stupid son Jay Paterno thinking he has more power and knowledge then an FBI agent. Seriously he needs to shut his mouth because this is disgusting. Think about the victims for just 1 second you little turd.
Ashamed to be from PA. At least I can be proud that I never joined the Penn state cult. Can't wait to see all my Facebook friends from home start defending JoePa again... somehow
Thats rough, I dont agree, but 5 years is a good starting point.....not to mention who is going to send their kid there now?
Penn State: Where legendary head coaches die of shame after covering up child rape, so your son will be fine here. That is a can't miss recruiting slogan.
I gave Paterno the benefit of the doubt earlier in November but the evidence is out. He's as guilty as the rest of them it seems. PSU needs to be shut down.
Goddammit!!!! The entire university needs to be shut down. This is exactly the type of **** they are in trouble for...covering up! When did this country become so freaking allergic to fessing up to the truth and apologizing? It is sickening.
