This team is so biopolar I really have no clue. I could see them going 60 and 20 in that last 80 games or so just as easily as I can see them go 20 and 60.

I feel like something needs to be done with this team to shake/wake them up.

Like what though? Trade Beckett?, Ortiz? or something smaller....? They quite simply as you say alot, just have to shut their mouths and play to their abilities....

It would be dumb for them to trade Ortiz or Beckett nor would I think it would happen during the season, plus who would you replace them with?

I really don't know what to do. There's obviously still issues with the clubhouse, maybe they need a "Kevin Millar" type player who's not a superstar but someone that could help get rid of all the BS and non sense going on.

I think most of the issues this year start at the top (I'm looking at you Bobby V). I don't think he's doing anything to help the situation but then again I have no knowledge of what he does behind the scenes or how the players like him.

It could just be as simple as them all waking up one day and realizing, "hey we have a ton of talent on this club, let's start winning baseball games" and everyone starts to play up to their talent level. That means getting Ellsbury, Crawford, Pedroia and Bailey back off the DL and playing at their All-Star level, that means Beckett, Lester and Buchholz pitching well each start, that means Adrian Gonzalez remembers he put up huge numbers in Petco Park so he should be doing it in Fenway etc.

I dont think players like Boob much, when Pedoria said what he said, granted he was right, but it was pretty polarizing....that being said, it isnt like they are "playing for Bobby's job" I think alot of them could care less if he gets fired, they have to just play for themselves I guess....

who do they start off with? Yanks have the Angels in the Bronx (losing 2 of 3)....

Well TB only has what 6 games left vs. the Yankees? The Sox haven't even played at Yankee Stadium yet (how is that even possible?). I think one out of TB and Boston will make the playoffs with the other WC spot going to LAA.

Gammons was on Boston radio this afternoon. Mentioned that he thinks Ryan Sweeney will be traded and that Jon Lester is unhappy in Boston right now. Mentioned Texas and Kansas City as possible trade partners. Take those comments however you want. I think a Sweeney trade is a no brainer as for Lester, I don't know do you really want to trade a young LHP with a good contract?

With the extra day off I am surprised the Sox aren't reseting the pitching for the 2nd half. Lester will have 9 days off, I hope he comes back well rested.

I don't think anyone was making excuses for them. Every team in baseball has injuries, some teams just more than others. I've said since Day 1 the team that wins the division is going to be the team that stays the healthiest and I still believe that.

I don't think any of that should be surprising to Sox fans.

Regarding Bobby V being back next year, no clue. Kind of hard to speculate right now since we have a half a season left. Who knows this team can possibly go on a run and make the playoffs and win the WS or they can continue to be a .500 club.

With all of that being said I don't think Bobby Valentine is the right guy for this job but I think they bring him back next year (unless the clubhouse just completely turns on him making it impossible to do his job). I bet the Sox are privately begging John Farrell not to sign any extensions with Toronto though. If he's a FA manager next offseason I'd be shocked if he wasn't the next Sox manager.

You no I know your stance, but an sh$t ton of Sox fans around here are....it is rather pathetic....I was saying that more in general not directed towards you...

While not a Sox fan (shut up BDH:lol:) I do follow them closely and didnt know there was a riff kinda between Bobby and the coaches....

listen if it kinda comes out in any small way it means it is there....how many times have we seen reports on small issues only later to find out it was much bigger than first thought...

look at Rondo and Ray Ray

While not having Crawford and Ellsbury in the line up all season is certainly a blow, the Sox are what 2nd or 3rd in runs scored in baseball. The offense hasn't been the problem (will minus the 7 game west coast road trip). It's been mostly about the SPers. Probably the 1st half SPer MVP has been Doubront which is a good and bad thing.

By the way the Edes article wasn't bad but he was grasping at straws about the part about how Pedroia stayed at 2nd in Chicago when all the other infielders went to the mound during a meeting with Valentine and the pitcher. How is that evidence that Pedroia does or doesn't like Valentine? I'm not saying Pedroia likes or dislikes him but how is that evidence?

I admit, I would LOVE to see the Sox fire Valentine today and rehire Francona and have the owners come out and admit they made the biggest mistake since taking over the team in firing Francona in the first place. It will never happen but I can dream right?

True but how is it NOT evidence as well....I dont think he like BV at all....I dont blame him either but as Captain he has to put that aside and lead by example....

    on a posiitve DP note....

How IS it evidence? Edes points to one time where Pedroia didn't join the other infielders during a mound visit in Chicago as proof he dislikes Valentine? Again it seems like he's trying to find something that might not be there. I'm not saying Pedroia likes or dislikes Valentine but using that as an example is pretty thin.

But again Fink, how isn't it? That example of Edes and his comments earlier in the year lead to more of him not liking him much, than liking him IMO.....

And yes BDH, I know the Sox don't have a C, but let's get real here, THAT guy is it.....who is then Ortiz? Lol....

Because he didn't go to the mound 1 time its evidence? I'm still trying to wrap my head around how it could be. Its a weak argument in my opinion. Youkilis played in 2 out of the 3 games vs. the Cubs, if he was playing in that game and he went to the mound for that visit can we conclude that Youkilis likes Valentine?

Let me ask you this if in tomorrow's game Girardi comes out to talk to or talk out a pitcher if Jeter, Cano, Arod or Tex doesn't go to the mound are you going to think it's because they dislike Joe?

Maybe it's just me but again I think Edes is reaching to that one.

Exactly, they dont. Nobody is their Captain!

Like our grandpappy's said in the olden days...."you either is or you isnt, dont claim what you aint!!!" There is not a C for a reason!

You are so desperate to try to keep some "rivalry" alive in your head, let it go, soldier...let them die off the vine like they have many times before....it will be another 100 years. Let your sad, sad, dream die; as they cant hang with the BigDogs!

The Yanks arent a mirror...you cant hold them up - with their standards of excellence - and force a reflective comparison to what is a wrecked crew!

...lol. they mean the same thing as 1st half games. Let me know when its a pressure game that is a must win.

Anyways, James Shields is nothing more then a good pitcher. He has pitched well at times when we needed him. But just like any pitcher, has been hit in big ones to. Kids a horse. I love him, but he is like Beckett. Overrated and is hittable. He will get a bigger contract then hes worth and will not be a Ray.

    Solid FO....

Less than a month after acquiring him in a trade, Boston designated outfielder Brent Lillibridge for assignment Monday in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for outfielder Carl Crawford. Lillibridge was part of the package obtained from the White Sox in exchange for Kevin Youkilis.

Something tells me Dempster will cost way more than I hope Cherington is willing to give up. I don't think moving him for any of the Sox top 10 guys is worth it unless they make a serious move in the next couple of weeks.

Youk would look nice between the all the K's that Ross, Salty, Middlebrooks are gonna rack up against good pitching. I hope the Sox don't waste another Aaron Cook gem tonight. (Never thought I would say that let alone another).

Please no to Dempster especially if he's going to cost an arm and a leg. I wouldn't dare move Bradley, Bogarets or Barnes right now and I'm sure those guys would be completely off limits for anyone other than an Upton type of player.

All I ask is for the Red Sox to have their A line up healthy for 50 or 60 games, that's all I ask. We get Crawford back and now Ortiz is out for a few days. The never ending injuries are starting to get a bit much now.

I am thinking more of a Nava, Sweeney type of package......why is Dempster considered this guy, you are getting a boatload of top flight prospects for in return...??

Also man I hope this thing isn't torn....that would suck...doesn't sound like it is, but who knows....freaking Gardner went out simply diving for a ball, hasnt been back since....

it probably was, they would have shipped him to the NL if they could I bet, even if they had a similar deal

they did it to get rid of the contract, you couldn't honestly expect alot back for him? 33 yrs old, young stud ready to take over 3rd, hitting free agency, 2 years+ declining, and owed a bunch of cash...

    the deal was right....

    also...love this time of year...

You are such a homer - its sad - just come out of the {red saux} closet already! :shifty:

Bottomline, it was not a "right deal"; this braintrust made a deal with the devil bringing Bobby V. onboard, and double-downed that mistake by letting Bobby V run Youk out of town and split the clubhouse with Pedoria and Ortiz being pissed, and heck, Bobby V doesnt even get along with the coaching staff. Yup classic stuff.

Thats a perfect compounded mistake......rush/panic mode moves!

hope it continues - the odds are high.....and I love it!

how am I a homer I am not defending the Sox....the Sox got the crap end of the deal.....

to say they panicked though is ridiculous.....he was a on the trading block for over a month lol....the GM isnt rushing to make any moves on the account of a has been coach who hasnt completed one year yet....and if he did then the Sox have much deeper issues and I would be very nervous as a Sox fan about Cherington...

the problem is you think Youk has the value he did in 2008, he doesnt, and it is about time some other GM didnt give in...

    keep reaching tho...
