I think it's foolish to discuss Mike Williams while Plaxico Burress is still available. Re-watch the catches that man had in the red zone just last year with Mark Sanchez throwing the ball inaccurately to him and then tell me he wouldn't contribute on this team. We don't have a physical presence like Burress on roster.

No issue with Burress as a red zone target. Other than that, he wasn't very good last year.

    I'd sooner sign Serena Williams.

His speed is clearly gone, and you worry about that a little. I thought he was good on in-breaking routes like the dig and whatnot. He was highly under-used by Sanchez on back shoulder plays. They tried it some but Sanchez generally didn't have the ball placement or timing to get it done. With Plaxico, he's useless to you if you don't have a quarterback with vision and ball placement. But if you have those things, there aren't many receivers in this league in my opinion that are more dangerous on the perimeter with back shoulder throws or throws into the hole between the safety and corner, and he breaks to the middle well enough to get under quarters or even two-man coverage, and if you play off him (which understandably, not many did) then he's still compelling on screens because of his size.

I just think you've got to have coaches willing to use him right and have a quarterback with real good ball placement. If you don't have either, don't bother.

IMO lacks explosiveness and ability to consistently separate.

Considering how well this team performed in the red zone last year I wouldn't mind signing a reliable red zone target.

Touche. Though, one could successfully argue the issue wasn't the pass catcher.

I agree with you on the ability to consistently separate. He lumbers around when he's in 3rd and 4th gear, it's obvious he's got no speed left to beat guys vertically (although he did get a touchdown against the Raiders like that).

But there are different ways to refer to explosiveness. He has explosive strength and explosive short area quickness, step and body control.

If no one else is intrested in signing him, why would we be intrested?

The only way you include EXPLOSIVE and SHORTS in a sentence with Plexiglass is if you are referring to a gun.....other than that, Not just no, but hell no!

Mike Williams? Really? If Carrol cut him of all people, he's not worth a roster spot IMVHO
