Honestly with Beckett your seeing what he really is. He is a pitcher that has been overrated mostly on his post season success. He has had a couple spectacular seasons. But other then that he is what he is. A pitcher that is very hittable.
One of you knuckleheads wants him....and Fink is a lesser knucklehead than you so....it is you by default
Now, now Nappy, take it easy on him, you know he plays for FINSOX13's favorite team and all. And clearly Fin cant be wrong with his judgement.
While I agree I think he's a tad overrated based on his post season success I think you're underrating him a lot too. As far as him being a pitcher that's very hittable in 1811 career innings he's given up 1662 hits, that's not bad if you ask me. Only once in his career has he given up more hits than innings pitched in a year and that was in 2010 when he was pretty bad (probably his worst year ever). I think Beckett has had an inconsistent career though, the years when he was good he was one of the better pitchers in the league but the years when he's been bad, he's been really bad. It's almost like he has 1 good year, then 1 bad, then 1 good etc. I think a lot of it has to do with his blister problem in Florida and then the multiple injuries he's had with the Sox. His overall career numbers are pretty good too. Not a HOFer by any means but an extremely good ML SP. Let's put if this way if the next big pitching prospect you team drafts can have Beckett's career (not even factoring in his post season numbers) anyone in baseball would sign up for it in a heart beat. I know I would.
Don't get me wrong, he is a good pitcher. He's just not the great one he is perceived. Half his career has been really good, the other half average. Even in his down years, except 2010, he's been serviceable. But people want to act like Beckett is 2011 Beckett, always. Seeing him perform like he has this season, certainly isn't surprising.
Oh I would agree with that for sure. Beckett was probably only a top 5 MLB SPer once his career, in 2007. Like I said I think his career has been pretty inconsistent. Beckett actually hasn't been bad this season, really he's had three awful games (vs. DET, vs. CLE in the famous golf outing and last Friday vs. the Yankees) other than that he's been pretty good. Like I said before he's a different pitcher now than he was even last year. He has lost FB velocity and isn't that power pitcher everyone remembers. I think what you see now is what you're going to get with him, an above average SP who makes 25 starts per year and puts up 3rd/4th starter numbers.
We were talking about pitchers, and I was saying aside from Doc, and Cliff Lee, the only other NL pitcher I would want is Kershaw, and I got ridiculed pretty hard for not wanting Lincecum....
Really didnt think this would be a likely outcome....wow: The Journal News reports Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain (elbow, ankle) began a rehab assignment with the Gulf Coast League Yankees (rookie) Tuesday. Chamberlain allowed no hits, no walks and struck out two in one inning, but allowed an unearned run because of a couple of errors. Chamberlain's fastball was reportedly topping out at 97 mph Tuesday. He now can spend 30 days on a rehab assignment as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery and an ankle injury he sustained this spring.
Just in case you forgot who the MVP was... FWIW hopefully this guy is right BDH, has been the first on Twitter as far as break draft prospect related stuff with NY....
Almost everyone who has a NTC or a limited NTC has big market teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, etc on them. It's not that the player doesn't want to or won't go to that team it's because they know a big market team like the Yankees will almost always been in the playoff race and if they're looking to get that player, the player could ask the Yankees to give him an incentive to agree to a trade. So I wouldn't automatically rule out the Yankees or any team because of that.
I am in my glory right now....best of both worlds.... http://www.miamidolphins.com/news/a...-Stadium/59eb075a-ce45-4171-a09f-582c6746b0b3
more OF depth fodder... The Yankees signed outfielder Kosuke Fukudome to a minor-league contract Friday and assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Fukudome was released by the White Sox in late July after producing a slash line of just .171/.294/.195 in 24 games with Chicago. Fukudome will serve as outfield depth for the Yankees.
The HUNT is back from All Star Break nice, you ready for the 2nd half son!!! How do you like that we finally have a 1st rounder signed for the 1st time in a while...
Cant say any of the past decision have held us back, in reality, this year, ehhhh, just an arrow in the quiver! One of many to get #28! That's the endgame.
Anytime you have a chance to sign a guy with the last name Fukudome, don't you just have to? I mean from a merchandise stand point alone. His shirts were always sold out in Chicago when he was with the Cubs.
Tampa should have signed him, and then they could have promoted the "FUK-U-DOME" night! And blown that place up and watch it implode to dust!
Trumbo and Trout are riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccculooooooooooooooooooooooooooooussssssssssssssssssss!!
"The National League has home field advantage in the World Series now." ; "I don't know if that means the opener is in Pittsburgh." - Chris Rose - MLB Network just after the All-Star Game.
yup, they should have won that game yesterday.....dont forget Iztrus' 1st HR of the year the winner..... but running into 2 separate double plays in 2 different innings is unacceptable.....
