Damn good = middle of the pack?

Also the point was it was a bad contract, was then and is now.

I'll welcome the debate in wich you name your top 8 Mlbs...and I'll assume you will insert Dansby in there. Interesting discussion it could make.

There is no meaningful metric by which the 2011 Miami Dolphins defense placed top ten. 14th DPR, 15th YPG.

Why should I have to do that? What does that have to do with playing up to his contract? It's obvious just by watching him play that he's very good and worth the contract.

You're only argument is he isn't a playmaker.

He is an average MLB with top MLB money...that's my argument and a valid one.

Well average IMO means not in top 10...so take it for what it's worth.

I personally love it when people randomly throw out a bunch of big name players into a conversation to support their argument that Dansby isn't top 5, or whatever. Dansby is everywhere on the field, and when he hits someone they go backwards. Hes extremely versatile too, leads our defense etc. This year he will play an even bigger leadership role with Bell being gone.

If you're gonna say he's a bad contract then you're completely wrong.

ESPN says we were 6th in PPG. 19.6.

    Where did you get 14th?

NFL.com. But now I see that I accidentally brought up the 2010 regular season stats instead of the 2011 season.

Strange as it sounds, I don't prefer PPG over DPR because PPG is schedule-dependent more than DPR is. DPR is more reflective of a season's final results—that is, the teams that make it deep into the playoffs and the Super Bowl are more likely to rank higher in DPR than in PPG—so I go with that as a measure of a defense. (As do Dick LeBeau and Dom Capers.)

That's fine. But PPG is still a major statistic that we finished in the top ten in, which was your main point.

Being saying that all offseason, I wanted Ireland to expose himself instead of hiding behind "that was Bill's move".

As for the Dansby discussion, he is probably overpaid but a fine player nonetheless.

  25. Dansby became available at a time when we needed him and Ireland might of overpaid for him slightly but to call it a bad contract is a stretch IMO. Our defense looks different on the field when he is on the sidelines. He has been an impact player and Ireland paid what he had too to get him here. Maybe he is overpaid but it was not and is not a bad contract and if he is still playing at the level he is now I look forward to him being resigned.

I'll add that Dansby is critical to our defense, and our team needs his leadership. I don't think he is overpaid just because there are some other top notch ILBs making less money. Dansby is worth his contract to The Miami Dolphins football team.

Sure, DPR is important. But Miami was a very good defense because it was very good in the red-zone.

After watching the interview, I thought Ireland seemed quite confident. I didn't see any "nervousness" when speaking on Tanny... quite the contrary IMHO. I like him though, always liked him. He was brought into the role as he should've been, by climbing the ranks. He is a great evaluator and I trust him to do his job. Our roster is much better from starters to practice squad, from when he came aboard. The only blatant goof was letting Zach go... that was a bone-headed move, by Parcells logic. He never gave Zach the credit he deserved.
