I think between '97 & '00. It's in the shading in the numbers, on the dolphin, and in the striping of the sleeves and pants.
Personally, I think they've added too much green to the aqua over the years, unless my eyes are playing tricks on me.
If I thought this was anything more than a Nike sales inspired decision, I might be less against it.WQAM listeners seemed about 90% against when I heard them discuss it this afternoon....I wonder what fans Dee was talking about consulting before thinking about changing it?
It's not like change doesn't happen. But every psychological study I've ever read has concluded that people resist change far more than they embrace it.
And 95% of the fans loved the new logo. Jimmy changed it up, but it needed to be changed. Hell....the dolphin in the old logo looked like a smudge half the time.
Yet many people, at the same time, love risk. I wasn't trying to say your dead wrong there. I was thinking more along these lines. The Dolphins made it clear that they're asking the fans what they think should take place. Well most indications from the fans are heavily favored to no changes.......
And we all know thats not true. You should hear the radio, and see one of the many Miami Dolphins facebook pages. It is ginormous (Will Ferrell word) in favor of going back or nothing at all. I would like something more real as the Dolphin. Add correct colors and......... Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I don't disagree with the studies, but I am saying that the stimulus that causes resistance to change isn't necessarily "change", itself, but rather the fear of the unknown that's frequently associated with change. We see strong examples of this in relationships and careers/jobs. If fear of the unknown is removed from the equation then resistance to change diminishes significantly. For instance, a guy that's been in a dead end marriage and career for 10 years would be significantly more open to change if he had a mistress he was head-over-heels in love with along with a job offer that guarantees greater income & security. If you remove the mistress from the equation, the guy might remain in his disappointing marriage for years (and perhaps forever), not b/c he's resistant to change but b/c either he fears being alone or has the belief he wont do any better, or both. I realize that fear of the unknown isn't always the underlying cause b/c there's obviously personality types who love their routines and feel uneasy or uncomfortable when they're broken or deviated from. But even that can get blurry. For instance, let's say a lady develops a routine for hitting the same Starbucks every saturday morning or a guy hits the same pub every thursday for happy hour. Now, do these two resist change in their routine b/c they're resistant to change, or is it perhaps b/c they've developed a bond & sense of comfort with their current places and fear these stimulations won't be as good elsewhere?
oh shut up. If those studies about change you speak of were done on me, their findings would be completely the opposite. I actually enjoy the thrill of the unknown and the challenge associated with change. If we really think about it, I'm supporting change [not resisting it] b/c going the vintage route requires much change rather than remaining the same. If I didn't like change I'd be in support of the current uniforms, no? IMO the NFL doesn't need flashy, crazy uniforms like the Arena League or NCAA; it's the NFL, it shouldn't have to. IMO NFL uni's should be held to a higher standard and have an appearance that represents class & professionalism, not let's party. IMO they should have clean lines and look mature, un-distracting, and like they're meant to be worn in an actual football game rather than dress up for halloween. We get enough fun & crazy uniforms in college; as those college kids grow up and advance into professional NFL careers, their uniforms should grown up, too. For some reason it seems like people have the misperception that going vintage involves using the exact same materials, cuts, and dimensions, etc, however a vintage uniform will still look different b/c of the materials & improved technology involved and style of uniform used today. The Giants, Steelers, Packers, Niners, and Raiders are 5 of many teams to have a vintage type uniform, but they're still completely discernible from the past.
I want change, and I'm willing to go old school 72..so I think opinions are getting muddled as to what were really arguing about..
I love the 2nd one..I say we lobby for that Czonka style, with a bit of freshness to the logo, and send it in....done But,if you see what they did here, I think it's more in line with what the majority would like in terms of subtlety, slight change, tradition, and a bit of freshness. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DXMHAA_Mf...Nw/_9MlFFVJgmE/s1600/NewOldPhins_2-722077.tif
I would guess that you resist change that you can't control. And that you find comfort in tradition even over something new that is better.
Locals would be far more prone to be rooted to a tradition, more caught up in the image of "the good ol' days". They're therefore far less objective on the subject. I would guess that the Dolphins would be more focused on a national poll as merchandise sales will come from more than just locals. The comments I've seen on national boards about the Miami logo are more evenly split.
that makes some sense, especially if we don't actually know that the "something new" is better (even if it actually is).
I listed both national and local. The Facebook polls are not even close... Maybe they're asking their season ticket holders
14,000 fans polled on Facebook. 12,000 voted to keep the logo as is. If they're truly taking fan feedback, no way the logo changes. That is a LANDSLIDE.
Does that mean they don't want any change or just no drastic changes? I have no problems with some tweaks, i.e, removing the helmet, changing the color, complexion or facial expression of the dolphin.
Dolphin is too cartoonish. And for god sakes lose the SUN. It doesn't make our logo look better. We need to do a similar design to the Seahawks, Where the Dolphin comes from the back to the front of the helmet on each side. No lame sun or helmet on the dolphin, and not to cartoonish looking. Basically, it needs to be simpler, but sleeker. Someone mock that up.
This is the best one so far. Similar to the Seahawks back to front logo. Only problem is the navy, lose the navy on top and give the Dolphin a face, and give it an outline, maybe that's where you put the navy, so it's not a dominant color. Lose the navy facemask and make it coral orange. I also don't see why the Dolphin is in two pierces. (and yes I know this is the old Dolphin Stadium logo) It's a good idea just needs some modifications. I'd also like to be able to see the tail fin at the back of the helmet. I wish I still had photoshop cause I could improve this general idea dramatically. By the way the last 2 logo mocks I quoted are an example of way too much detail and not enough. Someone needs to find a nice medium.
Like I said, I don't like it AS IS. But I like the concept. The actual design could be modified pretty drastically, but I like how the Dolphin is stealthin' across the helmet as opposed to jumping into a sun. That's my opinion, you have yours. Since there is no way to make a Dolphin look fierce without making it cartoonish and ridiculous, at least make it look like a true charging bottlenosed dolphin. I'm sure there are some good shoppers on here, someone should really give it a go.
