yeah why? why keep putting off the development of our young players we drafted? don't you want to see what Jones and Clemons can do once they are given the reins. I say no just because I would like to see what our young guys are made of and I personally don't think Leonard is that good.
Personally, I'd rather not role the dice on one of the most important defensive positions on the field. Give me a veteran presence over unproven liabilities any day of the week. If those players can play they'll find their way onto the field whether we bring in a veteran player or not.
Getting off to a good start this season will be a better payoff to our young players than if give one of them a chance and he blows. This franchise to start off the bat this season making noise. None of this chasing our first win of the season crap. Get Leonard.
He would be worth working out but I don't understand why people would be so adamant and excited. He's not that good of a player and I don't think it's a big stretch that we've got better on the roster.
Bc any player that gets released spawns one of these threads. There was a big Mike Williams thread in here the other day for **** sake.
You honestly think signing Leonard would get this team off to a good start??? Let our guys play, Ireland obviously wants to see what his young guys can do or we wouldn't of let Bell walk, who IMO is better than Leonard.
I didn't say that, I'm saying we NEED to get off to a good start, and any kind of veteran who can help us out is a huge plus. And Bell is 34, I just don't know how much he has left. But I don't think Leonard is going to come here, so it's kinda moot anyway.
No reason to get Leonard if Bell took his job away. Bell could have stayed if we needed a Veteran presence.
Rex Ryan has always been a big fan of Jim Leonard. When Rex came to the Jets, Leonard was a primary free agent target of his. The fact that after 2 major season ending injuries the Jets, with safety problems of their own, apparently have no inclination to re-sign him. To me that speaks volumes. And given the fact that he was not released by the Jets and has been a free agent since the start of the free agency period, and still has not found a home, tells me perhaps he may not be physically ready or has lost some physical ability.
leonhard is a f/a he wanted to go back to the jets but with them signing landry and bell he isn't needed. He has been injured the last 2 seasons also. Time to see what the young guys can do in a different system.
I would absolutely take a look at Jim Leonhard. Right now there is so much unknown about the position and what it offers, and there is no veteran presence in there. You know what you're getting with Leonhard, and he's a good communicator, veteran presence, and he'll play with some major angst every time he plays against the Bills and Jets.
EJ Henderson is out there screaming that he's 100 percent as well..It would be nice to have better depth than spitler
I like Henderson when he's healthy. But they've put a lot of work into moving Karlos Dansby to Mike and he's looking really good there from what we hear...so I think maybe we should just see if Karlos puts together the kind of season that forces everyone to finally put him in the pro bowl. He's really, really been itching for that. I don't want to screw up his momentum by signing Henderson and moving Karlos back out to an OLB spot.
Agreed on all counts regarding Dansby, Im just real confident in what I've seen and heard from him that he's gonna have his best pro season..
Lets be real. "Play the kids" is a load of ****. Would you be happy if Wallace was a starting WR? How many kids drafted after round 1 stick? YOU MAKE THEM BEAT SOMEONE OUT FOR A SPOT. you dont just hand them one because you're too cheap. Competition is the elixir of success. read that on here once or twice.
I disagree about him being terrible in coverage. Eric Smith is terrible, but Leonhard is pretty solid. Perhaps you're thinking of the wrong white boy safety? 55.8 passer rating into Leonhard's coverage in 2011. PFF rated him the 6th best cover safety in 2011.
Nooot really. If Wallace gets to the point where he's be a quality WR then of course we'd be happy w/him starting. You like the guy so we're cheap by not getting him. Could simply be we (as well as the Jets) don't think anything of him.
