Peter Gammons of MLB Network suggests on Twitter that Rick Ankiel would be a "great fit" for the Yankees.

I concur with Peter, go this route vs trading for OF depth, a FA signing like this would make the most sense.....

This.....yes I would do this over trading everyday....

Fast forward a bit here, if the Yanks make the playoffs....they are going to play Ibanez/Jones/Chavez at DH (honestly I would play Chavez over A-Rod at 3B his is better defensively)...but they want to keep those guys fresh, and the only option you have is Wise...Gardner is obviously not playing anytime soon.....I could see them signing RA as a "camp body" so to speak.....McCarron was saying on the broadcast the other day, that if Gardner comes back in October they wont use him to bat, but as a pinch runner....interesting...

Crazy with the injuries, especially to the pitching staff, that this team is 10.5 games up this early in the season and running away with it. Guys have really stepped up.

yeah especially considering nobody is having a career year...outside of probably Cano...The starting pitching has been amazing thus far and is the reason for the lead...

but Snowman as we saw with the Sox and Braves last year, those leads can disappear.....

We aren't the BoSux, we aren't going to have the most epic collapse in MLB history :knucks:

I get your point and a huge blessing for the Yankees was Longorias injury. The Rays would be up there with us if he was healthy. Moving forward I really hope we do not bring in Victorino. I hate that guy. Bring in a vet arm if anything, but no Flyin stupid Hawaiian

Up 4-0 should have been enough to avoid a 4-game sweep, with the Ace on the hill...guess not...

pretty piss poor effort in Oak-town....on to the Pacfic Northwest now...could have really distanced themselves with the Sox here...

Yankees manager Joe Girardi hinted Sunday that the team may be close to having one of its most talented pitchers back, as Joba Chamberlain may need just two more minor-league rehab appearances before being activated from the disabled list. Chamberlain, who has been out all season with a elbow and ankle surgeries, will pitch Monday and Wednesday for Class A Tampa, and barring any sort of setback, may be able to return from the DL as soon as the weekend.

Lost season for D. Betances....it happens: learn from it.

Yankees starting pitcher prospect Dellin Betances had his worst start Sunday for Double-A Trenton since his demotion from Triple-A. Betances allowed seven runs on 10 hits (two homers) and three walks in three innings against Reading.

It was the first time in five starts for Trenton he failed to go six innings. Betances is 1-1 with a 4.88 ERA and .300 opponents' batting average since his demotion from Triple-A.

Jack Curry of YES Network reports that the Yankees have acquired Ichiro Suzuki from the Mariners for prospects D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar.

Damn, me likey likey a lot! Great rental to replace Gardner's role! Very complimentary to assist with OF D and rotational needs, etc. For 2 ML prospects...no problemo.

as long as we aren't giving Ichiro an extension. Guy is aight but he is the most overrated player I've ever seen....and i'm not saying he is bad. But for a trade deadline deal for a few prospect for a year, I'm def in. totally unexpected

    For sure...yeah, rental only.

Maybe King Felix in offseason?? LOL....

Just last week Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik insisted that Suzuki would not be traded and the Mariners wanted to re-sign the impending free agent, but apparently those plans changed in a hurry.

Who is the only Baseball player to have his first name on the back of his Jersey? If you say Ichiro Suzuki... good guess, but Yankees don't have name on their jersey... trick question

Doubt it with 51, but who knows...

The Yankees are also expected to get an undisclosed amount of cash in the deal.

A rental....? How about that's Swishers replacement.....offer him arbitration and lets get a pick.....

Ichiro wakes up out of bed hitting, and this is exactly what he needs to get going...a playoff run....

rumor is hes taking #51. Its funny a few weeks ago when Paul was announcing they brought up how they gave Hawkins 21 and the fans were pissed which led to him giving it up. I remember thinking that Paul and Bernie are numbers that will never be worn again and retired one day by the yankees. Looks like 51 wont be retired for a while... IF George was alive this would have never happened

Past tense for sure...but cant hurt (Historically KILLS and AL East)...hope he gets hot rocking the 9th hole.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post adds that the Yankees are paying just over $2MM of Ichiro's salary (on Twitter). Ichiro, who is a free agent following the 2012 season, is owed roughly $6.7MM of his $17MM salary, meaning the Mariners are including somewhere around $4.5MM to facilitate the deal.

hats off to Cashman once again...gets $ and moves a waiver body in the deal. Love it!

A Yankee PR guy on Twitter said he didnt think so.....

    Also this.....

My quick thoughts on it.....The Yankees ideally want to keep Grandy, Cano, and Swisher.....but they cant realistically AND keep their word on getting under this tax umbrella they talk about....Swisher is the odd man out after Cano gets 20M min and Grandy gets 15-18M year as well....Ichiro has signability as a low cost, experienced RF for them next year....I bet you can get him to sign for 5M or under....

Me what I would do..?? Pay Cano, sign Ichiro to a yr deal to play right, sign Melky to play left.......exercise Grandy's 13M next year and dont sign him after that and instead sign........

    Offer Swisher arbitration?

Swish is $10M guy, and Ichiro is $17M guy, and you think thats a replacement? The offseason will shake itself out, but dont see Ichiro taking that big a payroll drop, who knows at this point though. Dont know what Swish will see as far as greener grass either.

Give me Swish over a washed up slap hitter any day. Ichiro is a half year stopgap, not multi-year solution. No way to an extension.

I think in the end it falls between 5-10.....more so on the high side...like 7.5 and up....which is fair for him...

Ichiro said he loves number 51, but reognizes how important it is around the Yankees. Said he would like a new number. Okay now I am officially excited! Go YANKEES! and Retire Bernie and Pauls number for goodness sake already... 9/13/12 is a good day to do it for Bernie. Birthday, and when he first signed with the Yankees. Bernie Williams day. Get it done, if not, 9/13/13
