A few rumblings. There was a rumor that Shields and Zobrist was being targeted by the Angels. Don't believe that one personally. But Shields has been drawing interest and reports are we will look to deal one of our starting righties. I would be in favor of moving him personally. Word is we also looked into Ryan Roberts. Which as long as we gave up as close to nothing as possible I wouldnt mind. He would be a good rotational player moving past this year. Yea but at least pawns can be useful lol.
Im not buying the Shields/Zobrist thing either. Reading today Shields for Bourjos/Conger, which seems more believable with some other parts tossed in.
Eh. I hope we stay the hell away from Santana. We have been rumored in the past to be interested in him. No clue why. Anyways. I would hope for a little more. I like getting Conger, but I am not ecstatic about him. And I'm not the biggest Bourjos fan to be honest. I like Jennings moving to center with Rays getting some power from LF.
Rays got Ryan Roberts. But for Tyler Bortnick who I actually like. I could see him being a pretty good back up within the next could years. I wish we would of given up less. But Roberts will fill a nice role for us the next few years. Really a less power more speed Roberts. So I don't know.
...they are going to firesale their position players to pay these pitchers watch.... Verlander, Kershaw etc just got real happy with this...
Now that Dodgers have HanRam, lets see how this power-play shakes out. The Cubs are talking to the Dodgers about Dempster again, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. The Dodgers are holding back on including pitching prospect Zach Lee in a potential Dempster trade, sources tell Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com (Twitter link). Because Dempster took all leverage away from the Cubs, they are asking the Dodgers for minor league pitcher Allen Webster as the centerpiece of a Dempster trade, reports Morosi (Twitter link). It's possible that the Dodgers could acquire Dempster from the Cubs without having to surrender Lee, a source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com (Twitter link). The possibility of a trade exists, but the Cubs are frustrated by their lack of leverage, Morosi tweets. The Cubs now could just plan to keep Dempster and make him a qualifying offer after the season, ESPN.com's Buster Olney tweets. Doing so would allow the Cubs to collect a compensatory draft pick in 2013.
Its a smart trade, you most likely wont resign Keppinger...and Roberts is a perfect utility type. Typical Rays FO move....smart/fundamental.
I like Roberts in that role, just really expected to give up absolutely nothing. Not that we gave up a great prospect or anything. Just someone I see contributing at the ML level. I like Keppinger, hope we can resign him cheap
Good for the Rays. Thats not enough. Also, Roberts made a nice impact in his first game last night. Going yard. Hes going to fit well. Wouldn't mind trading BJ and shifting Zobrist back to RF and moving Roberts to start most games at 2nd. Longo is on his rehab assignment so hopefully he will be back
Scott Kazmir makes me afraid of Shields. Maybe irrational, but that ERA of Shields and the trauma of Kazmir make me ok with the Angels low balling and maybe missing out on him.
Two different beasts. James ERA is very unlucky. JS is a really good pitcher. Hes not last years 2.5 ERA. But hes good. James has low walk rate, misses bats, high K rate, high ground ball rate. Basically, hes a pitcher whose numbers will get better, not worse. Dont take the Rays wanting to trade him as a sign of anything other then we are loaded with good arms and have major needs at a few other positions, nothing more.
Angels acquired RHP Zack Greinke from the Brewers for SS Jean Segura and RHPs Johnny Hellweg and Ariel Pena. After weeks of rumors and rumblings, Zack Greinke finally has found a new home in southern California. He’ll likely make his Angels debut on Sunday against the Rays, and gives the Angels perhaps the best top-four of any rotation in all of baseball. He is known to hold the Angels in high regard and could be open to signing a contract extension there, although it’s certainly going to be costly. He’ll return to the American League with aE 9-3 record, 3.44 ERA and 122/28 K/BB ratio through 123 innings this year.
The Giants have acquired infielder Marco Scutaro and cash considerations from the Rockies in exchange for minor league second baseman Charlie Culberson.
Greinke would scare me, if I were the Angels. Hes a great pitcher with a 10 cent head. He is one guy I wouldn't invest long term money or good prospects in.
Not sure if I love the Liriano to CHW move....was hoping NL personally. another small move: The Brewers and Athletics have agreed on a trade to send catcher George Kottaras to Oakland, tweets Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. The Brewers will receive right-handed reliever Fautino De Los Santos in return via the trade according to Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle.
I was really hoping TB would go after Kottaras. Certainly would be better then what we currently have.
Ok, not sure what SD is thinking here, not a smart move....neither are outrageous contracts per year, but neither are really smart/especially the Street deal. Dont get it????? According to Corey Brock of MLB.com, the Padres reached agreement Sunday on a two-year, $14 million contract extension with closer Huston Street. The deal also carries a $7 million club option for 2105. There are no buyouts or added incentives. Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin was given a three-year, $30 million deal earlier this month. And now the San Diego front office has locked up another potential trade chip.
The Diamondbacks have acquired third baseman Chris Johnson from the Astros, the two clubs have announced. In return, Houston gets two minor-leaguers: Infielder Bobby Borchering and outfielder Marc Krauss.
lots of overnight action.... The Cubs have traded left-hander Paul Maholm, outfielder Reed Johnson and cash considerations to the Braves in a four-player trade that provides Atlanta with reinforcements for the season's final two months and bolsters Chicago's minor league system. The Cubs obtain right-handers Jaye Chapman and Arodys Vizcaino in the trade, which the teams have announced. The Cubs have traded Geovany Soto to the Rangers, Yahoo's Tim Brown reports (on Twitter). The Cubs will obtain Jacob Brigham in the trade, Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports (on Twitter). The Blue Jays and Pirates have agreed to swap outfielder Travis Snider for right-hander Brad Lincoln, the teams announced. The Mariners have acquired outfielder Eric Thames from the Blue Jays for reliever Steve Delabar, the team announced. The Mariners have traded Brandon League to the Dodgers for prospects Leon Landry and Logan Bawcom, the team announced. Trade deadline ends today @4pm EST....lots of rumors out there, and most likely more actual trades still to come
