No, I do not believe he is, sooner or later folks the franchise has to bite the bullet and develop talent at Wr. Last time a coach had the patience and guts to do so they created DBess..then Sparano lost his balls so to speak.
From CK: This is where I'm at on this Wallace thing. He should just sign his tender and go into next offseason as a UFA. I don't think we're in the market for a WR right now... not yet anyway. And I'm still hoping that Gates is our deep threat that we need!!
Yet some of our very own Dolphin fans bashed our organization for "only" getting 2 3rds for Marshall.
Nope, just 14 hours a day of playing darts with a picture of Jeff Ireland. On a side note, Wallace, IMO, seems to fit the talent mold of what Ireland covets for this offense, so I could see us making an offer. Heck, contract-wise it'd almost be like we never traded Marshall. It'd be like getting Wallace & Egnew for Marshall. I'm good with that.
IMO, in a case like the Steelers, they are such consistent winners, their fans will give them the benefit of the doubt on any personnel decision they make. The Dolphins have been wallowing in mediocrity for so long, that more fans tend to see the glass as half empty on anything the team does.
More than he's worth. They like him a lot in AZ. He's currently their #2 and Michael Floyd hasn't made many fans thus far.
We just spent a #8 pick on a QB, and it only cost us $12.6 M. What better way to put Tannehill and his big arm in a position to succeed than by giving him the game's best vertical speed threat who can make bad throws look good at times. Plus, if we're utilizing 2 & 3 TEs simultaneously with Bush in the backfield, then what better a compliment than a WR who can keep a secondary stretched out and the safeties preoccupied, no? I mean, if a safety is always helping out over Wallace, then that puts a mighty strain on at least 1 LB (or S) matched up against either Bush, Clay, Egnew, or Fasano, and if the defense goes to nickel package we just run on them with 2 TEs; then the safety(ies) run the risk of a big play over top to Wallace should they cheat up to stop the run (b/c our fast paced tempo should keep them from subbing). Not to mention, Wallace (who's in great shape) would be an outstanding weapon in an up-tempo offense to burn a gassed defense with, especially during our 1PM home games vs Oak & NY during weeks 2 & 3 and whatever early season 1PM games we schedule down the road. Even at $55.0 million for Wallace, that's still only $14.0M/year tied up in QB & top WR. I haven't looked at league numbers but that's probably average or even below NFL average. Ok, I'll look 'em up. Detroit: $31M/year, Stafford & Johnson NO: $27M, Brees & Colston Philly: $26M, Vick & Jackson Zona: $26M, Kolb & Fitz Pitt: $24M, Roethlisberger & Brown Denver: $21M, Manning & Thomas SD: $20M, Rivers & Meachem NE: $20M, Brady & Lloyd (excluded Welker so this amount should be higher) Jets: $20M, Sanchez & Holmes Atlanta: $19M, Ryan & White Chicago: $19M, Cutler & Marshall Dallas: $19M, Romo & Austin Raiders: $18M, Palmer & Bey Giants: $18M, Manning & Nicks GB: $18M, Rodgers & Jennings Houston: $17M, Schaub & Johnson Buffalo: $16M, Fitzpatrick & Johnson TB: $16M, Freeman & Jackson Seattle: $15M, Flynn & Rice Carolina: $15M, Cam & Smith StLouis: $14M, Bradford & Quick Wash: $14M, Griffin & Garcon KC: $14M, Cassell & Breaston (omitted franchised Bowe) Baltimore: $13M, Flacco & Boldin SanFran: $13M, Smith & Crabtree Indy: $11.M, Luck & Wayne Jax: $9M, Gabbert & Robinson Tenn: $8.M, Locker & Washington (excluded Hasselbeck) Cleve: $7M, Weeden & Cribbs Cincy: $6M, Dalton & Green Miami: $6M, Tannehill & Bess (would become $14M, Tannehill & Wallace) Minne: $5M, Ponder & Harvin (also have AP who makes $14M/year) * Even with a $55.0M receiver, our $14M/year would still be in the bottom 1/3 of the league. * The above 32 team average is $16.M/year. I don't see any reason why not to do it. Plus we have an extra 3rd rounder to play with.
20 million for sanchez and holmes....what a waste of money 21 million for manning and thomas.....is that 20 million peyton and 1 million thomas
I could definitely see us interested in Wallace if he were to be available. We've apparently worked out Braylon.
Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero Dolphins also would be interested in exploring Mike Wallace but don't think he's available. Also expensive.
With a superstar WR comes the ego and I want the ball all the time. Stay with what we have and develop the young WR's.
I am not saying he does, however I think you could have more team unity now at WR rather than bringing a big name in.
The PFT article read: Suspect it will be a 3rd. Maybe we could give up a 3rd and Gates! He'd be a huge get. The problem is whether we'd be willing to spend for him. Is it just me or does it always seem the Dolphins are not extremely creative with cap manipulation and are therefore quite conservative? I still have some doubts about the owner willing to spend big. We'll see. This would be just the kind of player to help bring the kind of offense that the owner has been clamoring for (big play, exciting offense). He would automatically benefit the QB (whichever one starts). Wallace would be ideal for the WCO offense that Philbin runs. Just get it done.
True. But the situation is a bit different. Two years earlier the Dolphins gave up 2 #2's for him. They also had Marshall under a relatively affordable long term deal already - so it wasn't going to be a big sacrifice cap wise. Further, Marshall wasn't holding out. In this case, the Steelers have nothing right now. And, whoever trades for him is going to have to fork over some bucks up front in the bonus as well as work through some significant cap space issues to add $11 M or so per. But, it would be a good deal to give up a 3rd for Wallace (and maybe a player).
