Damn right...give him the 40' leather helmet. Worked for the 1st US Paratroopers. They didn't know what was going to happen either till their feet hit the ground. I'm hoping Ryan hits the floor running. :-)
I'll say that from the clips I saw he looks the part...his passes were lasers and his accuracy didn't look terrible either. I sure don't think he has zero chance to start that's for sure.
not much footage mainly talk by jeff darlington, but still better than nothing... http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-train...l-s-first-practice?module=HP11_headline_stack
I still believe our staff hurt Henne's progress and turned him from a gunslinger to a QB afraid to make mistakes. He became captain play it safe. I blame Sparano and his desire to kick Fgs and play field position at all times. At some point you need to just fire it in there and go for the home run. I think Henne's is the Jags starter by week 4.
The journalists seem to be in agreement that David Garrard was the best QB in camp three days in a row. The only note I read that challenged that Day 1 was DJ's. On Day 2 there was no question. On Day 3 it seems like the journalists are saying even with Tannehill's impressive performance they for the most part agree with FinNasty that Garrard still edged him.
Henne started being a cautious scared QB at Michigan. Theres a reason many Michigan fans disliked him, he wouldn't pull the trigger. There was a big misconception coming out he was a gunslinger. Just because he had a big arm people thought that. But it was wrong.
Please go watch his game against Ohio State. Dude had swagger and didn't care to throw into a tight window. Here? He was coached to be Chad Pennington.
Perhaps rather I should say that Day 3 there seems to be a half and half disagreement as to who was most impressive. The report I'd read that made me say the journalists came out on Garrard's side today was Armando's. But Andy Kent comes out on DJ's side with Tannehill as the sharpest. Dave Hyde texted this morning that neither Moore nor Garrard looked very good, so I think you'd have to default to him saying Tannehill was the most impressive. Omar Kelly, ever the weirdo, thinks all the QBs were mediocre and that Matt Moore was the best today by a slight margin. That one is just baffling because all the reports suggest he'd have been an INT machine if the DBs could catch the ball.
Not exactly sure why anyone would knock his performance because he "wasn't in pads". By not being in pads, it means he wasn't wearing pants and leg pads and he isn't allowed to hit anyone or get hit. Newsflash: He's not going to hit or get hit by anyone until he gets into a game, and wearing pants and leg pads are not going to limit his ability to throw the football. It's one day, but it's still nice to see. Like CK (and others), I still think Garrard ends up starting week 1, but Tannehill WINNING the starting job is very clearly the best-case scenario for the Dolphins because that means he beat out two starting caliber NFL QBs and will get the learning process started early.
I'm honestly not sure how anyone could watch today's practice and walk away thinking Moore had the best day, lol. Regardless of who you put at 1/2... there was a clear gap between them and Moore today IMO.
I watched a ton of him, being as my best friend and person I watch football with was a Michigan fan. He had his games where he let the long ball fly. But many many more where he was gun shy and held onto the ball for to long.
Kelly is completely untrustworthy when it comes to QB evaluation. He's the Bill Parcells of the beat writers.
Wait... You WANT Tannehill to fail, essentially wasting a #8 pick in the draft so we can give up a ton of other picks to move up for Barkley? I'm tough on this team, they deserve it, but to stand on a soap box and yell about how much you want a guy to fail so you can follow that up with "look guys...I was right!" is pretty douchey. Have fun with all that.
I'd say he is completely useless in general. Dude is a condescension machine. The next meaningful piece he writes will be his first.
Exactly that. It's flat out personal agenda. I'm so tired of all the pro/anti Ireland drama around here. He's our GM and he's here for another year (at least). Deal with it !
If he beats both, that's exactly what will happen. If Moore loses out, then I wonder if the team will take advantage of the league-wide goodwill toward Moore and trade him.
This is very true. Infact the first team to suffer a QB injury of any significance may just dial up the Phins. We are in a good position to get some great value for Matt Moore potentially.
There really is no need for both Moore and Garrard to be on the team. Tannehill at worst should be the backup. I would expect that the loser of the Garrard/Moore battle will be traded, even if it's for a 6th or 7th. You don't need a veteran like that as your 3rd and you don't want Tanny getting only scout team reps during the season
Another thing that needs to be considered regarding whether we keep the loser of the QB competition is Pat Devlin. Most of the reports I heard sounded like he was much improved. Maybe DJ or FN (or GM Johnson, who it sounds like was at camp also) can offer their opinions about what they saw in Devlin.
To be honest I didnt watch him much. When Tannehill was up in that group, I was watching. When Devlin came up, I turned and watched the 1st team...
Thanks, FWIW Omar had a tweet from camp this morning regarding Devlin. Basically he said that this year you can't see much difference in terms of ball velocity from the other QB's. Apparently that was not the case last year, according to him.
I think it's great that he did well. It will be nice to see how he does in some of the scrimmages. As long as he flashes and is competitive - it's a good sign he's going in the right direction. Better than hearing he looked really rusty. Also liked this:
Kinda sick but wouldn't it be sweet if we could pay Denver back for the whole Orton drama. I could see them looking around if Manning can't take a hit well. A second for Moore or he will just sit, that would be Saweeet.
