when he turns 5, start giving him 5 dollars a week, but tell him he isn't allowed to spend it. After a year, spend all of it on a Cam Newton autograph, then buy yourself a super soaker, football jersey, candy, video game and any other goodies that can make him jealous, and tell him he coulda had all that with his allowance if he had been a Dolfan and gotten a FREE tannehill autograph instant change to dolfandom
Talking smack, that's great. It's unlikely I father a kid (much too awesome or something like that) but thought if I did, how would his allegiance go? Would make things interesting for sure. Luckily the Panthers haven't beat us yet (0-4 regular season) so all the "pamper" fans have had to listen to my smack talk, not the other way around. Maybe he saw you playing in Madden with the Panthers... yes... this is all your fault.
I feel for you. I live in Nj. My wife and in-laws are Giants fans, which is fine by me. But my 10 year old son? He decided to become a Jets fan. Despite my best efforts to deck him out in Phins jerseys, etc., he decided to be a Jets fan because he liked the green color and felt sorry for them. I've warned him about years of impending heartbreak, but he holds fast. I can't even take the joy in beating them like I used to. Such is life.
My deepest condolences. This is something no man should ever have to go through. Just know that there are great people out there who can help with the trauma and you can always PM me if you need anything. Stay strong, brother.
This is to good. My kid decided to be a Titan fan when they made a run at the Super Bowl he was 13. He asked for a hat for xmas I gave him a 20 and said get it yourself. In the mean time the wife and I kept buying even more Phin stuff. Then his little sister decided she was all about the Phins when it came to football. Finally about 17 he came around and hasn't looked back he takes the bs from all the Raider and Cowboy fans and sports some nice Phins stuff.
Pretty sure some waterboarding will fix this. If not, introduce him to Tim Tebow.....oh wait. Nevermind.
Bummer sir. My son too was brainwashed and is a Dolphin fan like his Dad...hell, I even turned my Dad into sort of a Dolphin fan and he was a Browns fan
Panther fans are LOVING this btw. This was someones response in the thread I posted on their board......no words needed. it was perfect.
Oh goodness, I am going through this exact thing with my daughter albeit with college and not pro football. My wife, daughter (5 yo), and I moved to Georgia after living in S. Florida for our whole lives. Both my wife and I are Gators but our daughter is becoming more and more entrenched with the Bulldogs (because she loves puppies). We are at our wits end, the more we push her to Gators the more she pushes back. The only saving grace is that no one here cares about the Falcons so the Dolphins are safe--for now, anyway. If anyone has dealt with the situation before, I'd love to hear how you did it
So he's fine with Zach Thomas, but its the Miami Dolphins he is indifferent on???? hmmmm, wonder why?
I was a Steelers fan when I was around that age because I liked the stars on their helmet. I then became a Falcon fan because of Vick and Dunn. When I was around 9-10 I wised up and have been a huge Dolphin fan since. I'm 17 now btw.
Yeah, I just hope that one day when he gets older we can have a man to man chat and I can say "See son, you should have listened to your old man". But damn it's hard to keep the emotions under control every time Miami lays the smack down on the Jets. It's like having to undo a Pavlovian conditioned response.
Hey, you gotta ask yourself what's more important? Dropping the hammer after Miami lays a smack down or being the dad who doesn't emotionally damage his son? I think you need to check your priorities here b/c you're not setting a good example as a fan. Just sayin.
If he's identifying the teams through their logos, and aligning his allegiances accordingly, as children often do with teams represented by animals, I would suggest swaying his emotional interests toward dolphins. Herein lies the ultimate (if not insideous) reasoning imo, behind our widely criticised "helmet on a dolphin". Have you taken him to Seaworld lately to "pet" rather than just "see" the dolphins? Otherwise, put together an aquarium with an Oscar (Cichlids). While dolphins are technically not fish, they both live in the water, and these fish grow large enough to be considered pets. Unlike mindless goldfish, Oscars tend to exhibit "personality", and along with their greater size, can build an "emotional" interest with their keepers. If he counters that Panthers are more dangerous than Oscars, toss some goldfish in the tank at feeding time.
PS ad for this article I hear you I moved to PA and thought I would teach my son to like his home town Eagles, wouldn't you know he likes the Redskins.....
.......or just tell him a shark will eat his pee-pee off the next time he takes a bath. There's probably a fair chance he becomes Pig-Pen but that's an acceptable casualty.
It's a freakin joke, man, among an entire board that knows he's joking but yourself. Seriously, everyone knows "WHITE POWER" was completely sarcastic. Gheesh.
I have been a member of this forum for years, and I have seem far less things get people banned. I didn't find it funny at all, nor would other minorities. For the record im not a minority nor black and found it offensive. Lurkers and others who visit the site would be turned off to this as well.. Sorry I like a good laugh just not at others expenses.
really? So you're saying you've never lightheartedly made fun of the Jets, Pats, or Bills?......... and who are the 3 heads photoshopped into your avatar?
Thanks for the counsel, but I'm obviously not shoving the Dolphins glories in the face of a 10 year old, nor do I truly care if I have a man to man chat about whether he should have chosen the Jets as his team. It was a light-hearted response to a post from Rocky that was also done in the same off-hand manner. Sometimes it's about context. Just sayin'.
Then report it instead of quoting it and spreading it more. People might also lurk and see the utter lack of following TOS and be turned off at the lax rules as well ;-)
That would have probably worked, except for the fact of the whole lucky "DONOR" auction route the first go round, etc.... well, SICK, it could have been worse...
