I'm only praying that the cloudiness surrounding our inability to figure out the #5 and #6 receivers doesn't impede an opportunity to improve the top 3 spots. A healthy Edwards can be a handful for opposing defenses, just like he was against us.
The fact that he is still on street doesn't necessarily reflect his current ability. Last year the Pats didn't sign Brian Waters until like a week before the regular season and he played as well as any guard in the league. Apparently up til that point no other team was very interested.
Edwards has one 1,000 yard season in his career, he doesn't bring a quarter of the credentials a Chad Johnson brings. And along with this limited WR comes one messed up attitude. Terrell Owens makes more sense. I remember seeing a clip of this jerk off when he was with Ceveland yelling repeatedly at a teammate "You gotsta ball fo yo-self out here" the dudes nowhere near productive enough in his career to merit the BS he brings with him, and let's be honest for every Brian Waters there are 2,000 guys who are unsigned for a reason.
...... and the city of Miami will have to open a new K-12 school just to make room for his kids. Edit: never mind, that's Antonio Cromartie
.... and played for the Jets. But mostly b/c they play(ed) for the Jets. That was the direction I was going with it.
I think if I were GM, I'd ask the following two questions before I think about contracts when considering the hiring of an older vet: 1. If vet plays to their past level, will that be the difference in between our current record and the next level? 2. Do I need them to hold a position and provide lessons for an up and comer who isn't ready yet? For example, I think Chad is a yes for both. If he plays to his past level he can help take it to the next stage. I don't think you can say yes to either with Braylon.
Please read my post up there about what he was screaming to his young teammate on the sidelines in Cle....that will answer that.
I don't mean an active mentoring role because I don't think that actually happens very often. I mean providing lessons as an example.
The fact that Seattle worked out Antonio Bryant and Braylon Edwards, and chose to sign Antonio Bryant...I mean, ouch.
Been away for a while...Now i'm back.. And I signed in just to comment on this! No way. I think Braylon Edwards is a diva reciever not even worthy of calling himself a diva. Think...Jillian Hall and I don't even watch wrestling...nor can I stomach listening to sliced bread. Therefore Braylon Edwards would be the equal to that so I say hell no! Bad part about all of this is that I wanted Braylon Edwards way back in 2005 over Ronnie Brown. I thought he was going to be a great player in the NFL and I think he had all the talent to do so but just never did. I'm fine rolling forward with the vet Chad Johnson and the pups. I think this core is going to be a lot better than people are giving credit for right now. I mean if Johnson can atleast do what Tony Martin did for us when he came back i'll be more than happy. Davone Bess is a solid slot reciever and Hartline or no Hartline I think one of the young guys will emerge as well. If we are talking about a Mike Wallace trade; that becomes an entirely different equation to this situation. A Mike Wallace would make my season in a second. For the record though I do think Johnson is going to have a bounce back season. If there is a player in the league that can be a comeback story it's him. He's like the Bernard Hopkins of pro football. He even looks like him too.
Wrong. We cut him because his knee wasn't getting any better and he was on a one-year deal. We were making a playoff run. A healthy Braylon Edwards maybe has us holding Lombardi #6 right now. But what can a guy with a bum wheel and a bum shoulder do to help a already struggling passing attack? Not much. So that's why he was cut. So he could get another opinion on the knee and rehab it and get healthy for free agency. He injured the knee the first quarter of Week 2 last year.....missed 6 weeks came back and he was just not the same player. In TC, he was the clear #1 WR. Edwards has alot of ability and if he's healthy he will be your #1 sooner rather than later. And he was a model citizen as a Niner. The only reason he's still on the market is because that knee turned out to be worst off than intially reported when he was a Niner.
How dare you brings fact and logic into the discussion with all our resident Braylon Edwards experts!!!
I know he was hurt when cut, but he isn't signed for a reason. And I have zero idea why you think Edwards would have made any significant impact, just look at his career numbers. Also you lost because Ted Ginn was injured and your backup PR choked.
Absolutely not. I'm a big Henne supporter and big Jake is the man. If I thought he could help our football team I'd have no reservations signing him.
Not on a team that wont be competing for anything significant. Plax over Edwards everytime but really...its not like he is going to lead us to the promise land.
