It was insane that Beckett got booed. Really unreal and unwarranted. As far as what to do with his health moving forward, if he's healthy enough to pitch he pitches but its time to realize we're never going to get him to start 25 plus games a year anymore.

Typical Boston media, how in the world is that even a big deal what was said?

And no my guess is that it was a member of the coaching staff.

It wasnt in my opinion, he said he was making a joke of it, trying to get he to relax.....I believe it because what manager in their right minds actually would say that and be serious....

Schilling in an interview yesterday said he would have swung on him right then and there......yeahhhhhh okay chubbs...go lose more money...

Middlebrooks made (correct me if I am wrong Fink/GM) 2 errors in one inning recently, and when they came back to the dugout, supposedly he said "nice inning kid"..... somebody went to ownership with it who in turn talked to Valentine about it. Nobody knows who did it but some are speculating it was either Pedoria or one of the coaches.....

And yes EEI was going off about it the other day....

I think someone at WEEI did some research and found that Middlebrooks never made 2 errors in an inning so they couldn't find exactly which game it was but yeah that's pretty much what happened.

The whole thing is silly but you know what this season has been a joke so might as well keep piling on Bobby in hopes he gets canned.

I'm hoping the Sox silly sell out streak ends soon too so ownership will stop patting themselves on the back about it and start thinking about doing things that's right for the long term health of the franchise.

Yeah I've officially given up on the 2012 Red Sox after last night's game. Just another brutal loss. This team just lacks character and heart and ownership and the FO did a poor job addressing the problems of last year.

Again I think the best thing for the long term health of the franchise is for the team to simply tank, have the fans turn on them, stop going to games thus ending the sell out streak, perhaps a few firings (Valentine, Larry Lucchino) and then give Cherington full power.

Hopefully the tanking happens soon so the Sox can trade some guys like Cody Ross, Padilla, etc to get at least something in return even if it's a C level prospect. But knowing this team, watch them win 4 or 5 in a row to give everyone hope and then go on another long losing streak.

They definitely go on another winning streak, because of their bats....their pitching is baffling, and I expect them to spent every waning dollar they got coming back to them via expired contracts on it....

They gotta fire Bobby, he is just too much, you know who would make a fine manager but I don't think they grant permission to interview is Tony Pena.

Their bullpen is actually pretty good. The LHPers in Millers, Hill and Breslow are pretty good and with a hopefully healthy Bailey, a hopefully straightened out Bard and Aceves coming back next year that's a pretty good start. As far as the starting pitching they just have to hope Lester, Buchholz and Beckett pitch the way they should all year. Doubront is a fine 4th/5th starter and hopefully they can get something out of Morales and a returning Lackey. I'd rather they just go out and get guys on 1 year deals instead of shelling out big money for guys that just aren't worth it.

The best FA SPers are Grienke and Dempster. I'd pass on both of them. I'd rather the Sox make some trades to try and get a good SS, that's their biggest need heading into the offseason. Of course resign Ortiz. I know I said I wouldn't sign him to a deal longer than 1 year but I would probably just suck it up and give him a 2 year deal just so I won't have to listen to him *****ing next year about it. I'd give him 2 years 28 million dollar contract.

I'd obviously float everyone's name out there to see what kind of value they have, if they can get a good deal for anyone they should think about it.

Totally agree with all of that. Pass on all starting pitchers say for a fill guy, and spend some money on another quality reliever to move everyone back a spot. Like you said just give Ortiz the money and don't worry, the Sox have made much worse mistakes than $30 million on Ortiz even if he never played again.

If I am Cherington I would try to save much of my money for 2 winters from now, when many guys in the Minors will be more ready and you can figure out how better to spend some money. To much uncertainty on the books right now. There is no reason to panic this offseason and spend money on regaining past glory.

They should start to float numbers to Ellsbury, he would have the most trade value by far if he wanted some crazy contract. Scares me because some team will pay him, see Carl Crawford.

I think Cherington and company will do exactly what they did this offseason as far as signing FAs. Just sign fill in guys etc, don't overpay for the average players and continue to build from within and make trades for undervalued players.

Outside of signing Nick Punto for 2 years and the trade for Bailey (since he got injured and contributed nothing this year while Reddick has had a nice season in Oakland) he's done a pretty good job.

Any day now the Red Sox owners will install cameras in the Sox clubhouse like "Big Brother" and charge fans a per hour fee to view what's going on... Hell I'm surprised they haven't thought of this yet.

Imagine IF Lackey ratting out Valentine is true, do you think the fans will finally cheer the guy?

Interesting question u pose there Fink....

Thing is bro, SOMEBODY did actually rat BV out right? I mean how does he get sat down by management if they didn't, how do they even know? I know you downplay alot of team/media relations, but there is something for the media to follow, because it doesn't always happen (players going to management)...

Or do you just think that this stuff shouldn't be in the public eye....

There's a lot of stuff that happens in every clubhouse that people would be surprised about even things that the media never picks up or hears about. I've heard some crazy stories about teams in the past that if the media ever heard about would have a field day with. If this was any other team I would probably brush it off as not a big deal however because of what happened in September of 2011 to today I think it's a bigger deal.

I think it's obvious things still aren't right with the clubhouse and there's things that are still going on. It sure doesn't seem like Valentine has any more control of the team than Francona did, it sounds like he has less control. Again that's with me not having any inside knowledge of what's going on. Usually where there's smoke there's fire. And yes it seems like someone did go to management behind Valentine's back, which inducates to me that Valentine doesn't have the respect of the players. I would hope between the owners, FO and coaching staff they know who or what is the actual problem and are trying to fix it (although you'd think they would have tried fixing it in the offseason if possible).

I don't really think this stuff should be in the public's eye because at the end of the day, what was said wasn't really a big deal and I'm someone who would really like to run a tight ship where nothing gets out.

Some of this stuff kind of remains me of Arod's first few years in NY where there was a story about him every day and none of it had to do with his play on the field.

At the end of the day if the Sox were winning this wouldn't be a big deal but again because they're a .500 team it is.

Yup I was happy about reading those quotes last night as was with Cherington's comments too.

Again I don't think this is all of Bobby's fault or even half his fault but it's clear he's not the right guy for this job.

Agreed on the public eye sentiment, I think stuff should stay out of it, or it winds up like some dumb stuff like Franconas pills etc.....

On the bolded, if that the case and I don't disagree, how do you remedy it, they (players) aren't getting it....do you blow up the team? Send away Lackey and Beckett? Ortiz? What the hell is everybody griping about?? They play for the Sox, in front of a packed place every night, year in and out they have a chance, are in the best rivalry in ALL of sport....what the hell is there not to like about being a Red Sox from a players point of view? Media?

No idea, I think you have to be an insider to really know what the exact problems are. It's easier to sit back and just say blow up the team and get rid of this player and that one but as a business it's hard to do. This team was the best team in baseball until the first week of September, it's hard to simply do that. I don't think the problem is one or two players. It's deeper than that. But I don't know what the answer is. I just hope the people that can change things do. It seems like they don't know either though.

I think the first part about getting a new face/manager in there was the right idea, they just picked the wrong guy with the wrong personally.

I think he survives, he's in deep with Henry and company.

The 2 starters I counted on most to carry the team have been the two worst this year.

Only got to listen to the 1st couple of innings, but looking at the box score I can't figure out what Bobby did?

Adrian Gonzalez has been hitting well lately, but I suspect 30 HR power is wishful thinking in the future.

The OBP of this team is brutal.

Poor job managing the pen today. Beckett was gassed after the 5th and let him go out for the 6th. Aceves should have started the 9th inning, not sure what he was waiting for bringing him in.
