NFL Source: Garrard has knee surgery Sounds like a cleanup, and maybe they feel they know what Garrard "is" so why not see who is the most ready among Thill, MMoore and Devlin?
My take on it is if they are comfortable with Garrard, and he needs a cleanup, better to do it now and give the other 3 more snaps.
That was what I thought as well.. Still didn't really see that coming. Def wont mind more THill snaps though.
I would guess Moore starts game and plays 3 or 4 drives, Tannehill plays into midway point of third quarter and Devlin plays rest.
This is Tannehill's chance to seize the starting gig. He's already practicing better than Moore, if reports are to be believed.
planning for rain tonight... interesting considering the Garrard thing. Hopefully just a minor thing and they decided to keep him out. Wouldn't be too surprised if they pulled a couple other guys if that's the case.
This could mean either: If it's bad - 1) Garrard's health is VERY suspect now and Tanny has a real chance to wiun the starting job, or Moore gets it.... and Moore DEF doesn't get traded If it's a proactive knee-cleanup - 2) They intend Garrard to start the season, he needs less work, and it's Moore and Tanny they have questions about. Maybe showcase Moore a little more tonight and get that trade value up or att least assess him better.
If it's a cleanup, he'll be out for 3-4 weeks. You can abide that with a running back (i.e. Richardson in Cleveland) but I seriously doubt that they'd start a quarterback who has missed the majority of training camp. Unless he's called Peyton or Brady, of course. If the reports are accurate, I'd rather see them cut Garrard than actually start him.
Garrard did practice Wed night, but last night's practice was closed to fans/media. Can't wait to see Hard Knocks!!!
Obviously hurts him with the competition, but unless he got injured between Wednesday and now, it couldn't be a big deal.
So, apparently, from all that I have read, the surgery was minor, though it will likely sideline him for the beginning of the season. Also, we will not know the extent of the matter until 6pm tonight when the Dolphins are required by the league to release an injury report.
Maybe it's not so bad. Might be a PCL deal which some players have played through. Most notably the soft Mark Sanchez.
Update: PFT has confirmed the report with a source who says Garrard will be out for ""a while" DANGIT!!! http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/08/10/report-david-garrard-out-after-knee-surgery/
