This is why you don't trade away Matt Moore. Because of reasons like this. Garrard has questions about his back, regardless of he looked in Hard Knocks, and now there is this - which although minor is a set back. I don't think you can legitimately have Garrard come back and be the starter the first game as he'll likely have severely limited playing time if any at all this preseason. Moore can hold the fort down, and honestly is likely not to set the world on fire to the point that bringing in Tannehill will upset the apple cart. Garrard may have played better than Moore this season and made it harder to sit him in order to get the rookie some snaps. This is not to say that with Garrard we'll win 10 games only that we have been in more games this season with him at the helm - just my thoughts there. Having 3 quarterbacks of this caliber on the roster is certainly helpful right now and still allows us to be relatively competent to start the season. And, if Moore doesn't do well in this system it may ease the transition to Tannehill, as I don't think this team would then go to Garrard later in the year over the quarterback of the future. I don't see the point in that, and given Ireland's desire to have young play over older players who may hamper their development, which will be felt by the staff I'm sure, Tannehill probably would get the nod in a scenario where Moore needs to be sat down. This injury could mean Garrard becomes "the don't break glass unless an emergency" quarterback.
If this wasn't a new injury, such as padre suggested, and just something they decided to do now, then why didn't it get done a month ago?
Is this minor? He passed his Dolphins physical... Or do we still have the same medical staff from 2005 that thought Drew Brees was finished....?
Wow, this came out of no where. Hopefully it's nothing serious and he can get back out there. I know how hard he's worked. Huge opportunity for Moore and Tannehill.
From what i hear, knee has been bothering him since OTA's, but MRI's didnt show anything. Sounds to me like they are cleaning out his knee, 2 - 3 week thing, shouldnt be a big deal.
I'm also assuming Garrard is out of the starting race now too, no? 2-4 weeks away from competition can't be good for him.
In 1.5 weeks of training camp with hardly any pads, hardly any hitting and a glorified scrimmage? When they could have had it done in March and have him ready by the start of camp with four months to spare and, you know, actually healthy? You're theory is way out there, mate.
Opportunity really knocking for Tannehill now. You know he'll look better than Moore in practice so here comes the tough decision of starting him Week 1. Hopefully, the decision will be obvious and he'll force us too.
Didn't read all 5 pages, but it was said at pregame that his knee swelled up after the last practice. So that means it wasn't preexisting and not something he could have taken care of before training camp.
I think if Garrard, or even Moore, start the year as the starter, attendance in Miami will be terrible. And I realize Garrard is probably not going to be the starter.
If they're saying 3-4 weeks it sounds like a meniscus tear. So heading forward it will be interesting to see how Philbin handles the starting job. Garrard will be looking at an opening day return if he's lucky, with not much practice time until then. Hopefully that leadership and attitude Tannehill has been showing will show up and take charge from here and cement his role as our starter.
