He also mentions Chad's drop in the game, and in the intrasquad scrimmage. shouts out Wallace and Pruitt, and mentions Philbin's quirk about injuries. More here: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/sfl-hyde5-five-thoughts-on-dolphins-preseason-loss-20120811,0,111752.story
Hyde nailed the thought that JPru and Wallace performed and should see more run time, that is how this is supposed to work.
In addition to Pruitt, Wallace, and Clay doing well, I thought Cunningham caught the ball well. If he keeps up and Matthews returns well (and shows something on offense), and if Gates shows up there will be some tough choices at WR.
I did as well Stitches, Cunningham played well enough that I'd like to see him have some more opportunities. Thought Matthews did a great job on punt returns
That one slant pattern was a very difficult catch to make, the corner arrived at the same time, there was contact, the ball was a dart, and he snatched it..the back shoulder he caught out if bounds would of been good in college, maybe he was having some flashbacks.
Matthews did well , got some good yards but if that had been Thigpen , the yards would have been more and he would have made a few more players miss imo.
I really liked the way Wallace played. Being at the game I focused on him a lot and really liked the way he handled himself. I hope he gets more playing time.
For all this talk of WR's being a weak point. The qb's did throw up a combined 311 yards despite some costly drops. Really got to let these younger guys have a shot against the #1 defenses to find out what we have. Early on we were talking about maybe trading for a WR in the preseason..........I'm beginning to wonder if we shouldn't use a 3rd or 4th next year and get us a veteran DB right NOW!
Great point. It goes to show, you don;t know anything until the games start. We THINK we know, but we don;t know. We thought WR was weak and DB was strong. Could be the opposite. And, by the way, this coaching staff had Wallace LAST on the depth chart pre-camp, and STILL last on the depth chart on August 6th. I worry that there is something they have decided they just dislike about this kid. His style of play. His skillset. HIs attitude. I don;t know. Because ALL I ever hear from practice reports is "Wallace catches another deep ball along the sideline!" and then he gets into a game and plays great (from what I can see). If they STILL leave this guy at the bottom of the depth chart then I don;t know what to say. Waste of resources?
I wonder why they did not use him last night. Thigpen with his extra speed may have went the distance on that kick return that Matthews got to mid field.
Agreed. He looked rather lumbering making his cuts .I would like to see someone with quicks back there.
Chad did have a bad drop, but I am not ready to throw him off the team for it. They need to leave him out there longer and see what he can do. If he drops consistently, then that's a problem. Now's the time to find out.
I think they made the decision to dress Matthews and when they did they linked it to him on returns. Some of a positive return is the returner of course but some is on the blocking/opportunity . Thigpen may have flashed pretty well last night , and could have taken a big step for a longer look. If he doesn't get the same opportunity he probably is a long shot. He has serious quicks though and can make much more out of not much than Matthews imo.
