There were 2 angles that showed the ball hit the ground fairly convincingly without the hands being under it.

well i dont have a dvr, maybe both of u have the luxary of rewinding it over and over again. i saw the replays played through one time and i agree with what announcers were saying. every replay they thought it was good until they showed the last replay then they aggreed with the ref. but that last replay didnt show the hands as well as the other replays did.

despite what anyone thinks about that call, Tannehill moved the ball well and gave us good chances to win that game. but the scoreboard doesnt show that. the defense hurt us!

It had nothing to do with the NFL Network. You're getting worked up over nothing.

Not to mention the Bucs crew was 100x better than ours.

    I agree with you there.

I watched the game again and for a first preseason game with a new offensive and defensive system I thought it went really well. Generally speaking the first preseason game is a huge mess and 3rd stringers look extra crappy.

Honestly if three plays were different Miami wins 23-20 and everyone feels gitty. There are somethings to be concerned about and some wrinkles to iron out, however I thought there were a lot of positives from the game as well.

Kaddu was really struggling in camp..I wouldn't be surprised if they think he is a liability if put in the game..

Maybe an over-reaction, but already had a perspective that NFL Network had crapped on the franchise enough already. The Bucs team is better. It was just the fairness of the thing.

Jonathan Martin was pretty bad. He deserves his criticism.

Some backups that stood out to me:

On defense, Jason Trusnik was a mad man. I could see that in the stands and you can see it on broadcast. He deserves his chance with the 1's while Burnett and Dansby are hurt. But considering how Koa Misi played during the first two drives, I wonder if that's just a position in Kevin Coyle's defense that is just set up for success? Something to watch for.

Along the defensive line, I liked what I saw out of Derrick Shelby, Jamaal Westerman, Ryan Baker, Kheeston Randall and Isaako Aaitui. Olivier Vernon was disappointing. They put him in position to get a pass rush going and he couldn't do it.

In the secondary, Anderson Russell really caught my attention a few times, and I really liked what he did. I think he makes the team over Tyrone Culver.

On the offense, Josh Samuda was very up and down. Frank Okam ate his lunch at times. Other times, Samuda looked more than stout. The entire second and third string lines just weren't getting the job done. Nate Garner was really bad in my opinion, and then he got hurt. Jon Martin continued his struggles even against the Buccaneers second string. I thought Lydon Murtha was decent and Eric Steinbach looked nothing more than serviceable, certainly not anything that makes me anxious to have his supplant Artis Hicks who looked flat out better IMO. I didn't get any great feelings from any other OLs, even Andrew McDonald who let up some bad plays. Just have to be honest on this one.

At receiver and tight end, I don't know what people are talking about with Michael Egnew. He looked fine to me, and he made a really big play at one point, pulling in a seam pass that was poorly thrown and tipped by Jacob Cutrera, with Larry Asante over top. Right after that play he got his hands on a quick hitter and couldn't bring it in, but (and I've talked about this a long time) on those super quick hitters you just cannot afford to have bad ball placement. The quicker the pass, the shorter it is, the more accurate it's got to be. That ball was clearly behind Egnew and he had to jump and twirl backwards to try and haul it in, on essentially a half step drop rock back and throw with a in the air distance of about 10 yards on the dot. That is much more Pat Devlin's fault then Egnew's. A play later Egnew makes another tough grab in traffic with Rennie Curran all over him. The ball Devlin throws him in the back of the end zone, that ball has to get up and get some more air. You're throwing a 6'5" tight end in the back of the end zone, you throw it up and make him go get it, you don't try and squeeze it through all the low traffic. As for how fast he was moving I thought the field level replay showed he was booking pretty hard. What you have to remember is that Jacob Cutrera himself was a pretty fast football player coming out of LSU. There wasn't anything Egnew really could've done on that play in the end zone, like I said Devlin just has to know to get that ball high and work your matchup advantages. The other throw earlier I saw Ryan Tannehill throw in his direction, Ryan overthrew the thing. Can't fault Egnew on that. I was keying on him in the stands and I thought he did a good job making himself available to the quarterback.

I thought Les Brown did a good job at that as well, making himself available. The athleticism on him is very noticeable. I would love to see them actually feature him in the passing game more so that we know just how good his good is, before we start making decisions to cut him based on a couple of blocking low lights isolated and featured on Hard Knocks.

I thought Chris Hogan kind of blew his chances. He's clearly athletic and he can get open but he wasn't able to look back for and adjust to the ball and he didn't have a great sense of where the quarterback expected him to be in his cuts. He drifted a lot. He caught a nice ball near the end zone but it would have been nice if he could have done something after the catch since he's so big, strong, fast and explosive.

I didn't like one of B.J. Cunningham's catches and it illustrated the leg strength problem I thought he had coming out of college. He can't make sharp cuts and begin to back out of his cuts without buckling. He did that one one of his catches and RAC became impossible. On another one he had a nice high grab on a slant, kind of another poorly thrown ball by Devlin. They did the same thing a play later and this time Devlin got the ball down and Cunningham was able to cradle it into his body and run a little after the catch (not far). Slants were a good route for him in college. What I want to see from him is that he's expanding his skill set, and Friday didn't show me that. If he would have caught that fade or made that cut, then we're talking. But he didn't.

Jeff Fuller was a victim of some more bad ball placement from Devlin. Otherwise he looked OK, didn't really get opportunities to look good. He had one pass broken up but it was a quick hitter and he ran his route and played the ball as he should, was just a bad decision pre-snap by Devlin. The fade in the end zone...tough play. You'd like to see him come down with it as it was a good throw and this is supposed to be a strength of Jeff Fuller's.

I'd still guess he makes the 53 but maybe limited to only STs as a rookie. He was in the game on teams early on.

Have you watched that new feature on the rewind package, condensed version?, whole game cut into about 20 mins, easy to isolate players reps quickly.

Madman is a good way to describe Trunsik, defensive MVP of the game, he's 28', has developed his body into a pro frame, looks athletic and instinctive in space, ( at least against the twos) and seems like a solid roster player considering what he can do on special teams..I guess I get it now..

Freeny was good against the run, but he allowed 2-3 receptions when he was in coverage. I think it boils down to how many lbs we keep. Guyton isn't a lock. I watched the game a 2nd time, and he sucked as much as CK said. We have the 3 starters and we keep 3 or 4 backups? If we keep 25 defensive players, let's say 9 DBs, then 9 DL and 7 lbs, would that allow us to keep him?
I'd like to see a pic of Trusnik a year ago compared to now. That boy has packed on some serious muscle since the end of last season.

you know me, that dude has been training hard...

Here's what I saw in Kaddu..when he takes his angle to the ball, he will hesitate if the offender makes a move.

They are playing Misi/Trusnik basically like a combination 4-3 and 3-4 OLB. I hate the term hybrid, but someone who is going to be aggressive and forward moving and who can end up playing both on the line and off the line techniques. I guess it's kind of a "new" style position, and put in a bit different positions and used to challenge blocking schemes in interesting ways. More Von Miller and Mathias Kiwanuka than Jarrett Johnson or Kamerion Wimbley. You'd think you would compare him to Manny Lawson in Cincinnati last year, but he didn't seem to be that much of a forward moving guy despite it seeming to fit him.

I still like Martin to start the season. I agree Fuller was the victom of some poorly placed balls. I don't agree with CK's assessment of Cunningham, but he is consistent in his dislike of Cunningham being drafted. I don't disagree with the struggles of the backup offensive linemen, and that just adds to the issues with backups and the roster. And I continue to have issue with the backup secondary, not to mention the safety play in general.

If this team lacks the talent most experts say it does, I expect Ireland to be active at cut down time.

I'm finally getting around to watching the game right now and my first thought is how well Ryan is at selling the play action fakes. He has had some beauties so far

Watching the replay now and a quick obervation I just made is Vontae Davis making the tackle on the kick off in the 2nd half, anyone else surprised to see him relegated to special teams in the first game of the preseason and in the 2nd half?
