Better now than later in the season. Gonna be a lot better options out there after roster cuts than Chad anyways. Regardless Philbin owns the locker room's respect.
Precisely. The other reason you cut him is because you're doing Hard Knocks, and in that scenario you need players to create less drama, not more of it. Chad had already gone overboard in a press conference, and now this. This team needs to concentrate on football and let Joe Philbin establish his program. Hard Knocks plus a lightning rod of distraction is just too much.
Even though CHad is gone, I feel the next Hard Knocks episode will have ratings through the roof after this
Chad life sadly revolved around the whole reality TV, social media scene in recent years......problem is for him the NFL doesn't revolve around reality TV....
I don't see how cutting CJ embarrasses the organization. I also don't think it weakens the receiving corp much if at all. What weakens our corp is the injuries to Hartline and Gates. I wanted to see what those guys could do and if they didn't show enough there will be better options than CJ available before the season starts.
Now known as Chad "OCHODICKO" Johnson. Funny the guys last name is Johnson....... He could have easily explained the condom receipt....new career in porn
So who do we bring in to take is roster spot? A WR or maybe a veteran OG like Jake Scott? We will surely find out soon.
If you saw Hard Knocks, we were privileged to the conversation with Johnson on hard knocks, about cussing and embarrassing the team. Philban flat out said he could be gone if he embarrassed the team again, and whala. less then 1 week.
Philbin apparently said the decision was based on Chad embarrassing the team. PHILBIN IS NOT TAKING ****.
It looks like Philbin didn`t like his behavior Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero Source tells me Joe Philbin believed the attention Chad Johnson brought to team last 10 days was "embarrassing."
There's 15 more days until the cut down to 80 players. I'd think we would sign somebody to take his spot, but I really don't expect it to be a WR. I think we should sign a LB or maybe even OL.
I'm not saying it wasn't bad or he wasn't waned. All I am saying is I wonder what they talked about. Did chad insist on him being innocent? Did Philbin believe him, but have to cut him because of the distraction? He didn't want to believe anything until he talked to Chad, he talked to Chad an quickly cut him. What did they say to each other?
I guess the whole thing about "Philbin's eyes being down while talking to Chad" being a sign of weakness was utter bull****.
I had/have high hopes that one or more of our younger WRs Wallace/Pruitt/Moore/Matthews or even Cunningham/Fuller would step up. I thought there was enough talent there that the odds favored somebody stepping up. I expected that Hartline/Bess/Gates would be our first three. With maybe one vet and whatever rookie stepped up I figured our WR corp would be serviceable, not ideal but good enough. Then we would add another WR in the next draft. So far it looks like Bess has been very good and Nanee has played well (not what I expected). It seems that both Wallace and Pruitt may be ready to step up to at least be worthy of 4th WR production. The disappointment is in Hartline's and Gates' injuries. If they don't return and show something soon we may add a vet or even make a play for Wallace.
Always amusing to watch people try to equate this to cj's dancing in the endzone. That's not only sad, it's pathetic.
Trusnik and Spitler assuaged my LB concerns a little bit. I am more concerned about DB right now, and a pass rushing DE. Whoever we sign though will be depth. The best players aren;t floating around available right now, so it has to be a unit that plays multiple guys, like the DBs, the LBs or OL for whomever we sign to actually contribute. My money is on DB.
The awkward moment when the "One is too much" commercial is on, while on the bottom of the screen says "Chad Johnson was released from jail today after charges of domestic violence" all while looking at this forum talking about Chad
Yea would have been interesting to be in the room. Maybe hard Knocks got it and we will see. They showed that right guard get cut, Derrick Dennis I think. How stupid could one person be. I mean, really?? Ocho just couldn't wait to break out after a year of silence. Just silly why someone would jeopardize this type of opportunity. Makes no since
This. It shows everyone that no matter how bashful coach comes off he still means business and rules with an iron fist without having to look like a hard ***
Just because he is willing to weild the power to axe someone when he should (and I'm proud of him for it), doesn;t suddenly mean he has amazing personal rapport and ability to relate to players. He may get his message across, but I can't see a warm bond or comfort-level between him and certain types of guys. Now, maybe a coach doesn;t NEED that bond, but maybe he does. ****er was awkward talking to Chad. That's separate from him making the right decisions as a leader and executing them. (btw I never thought his awkwardness was him being 'weak'... just being a bit wooden with the people skills)
I would say I'm in favor of signing Plax now for when we get in the redzone, but heck, let's see what these young guys can do. I don't have super bowl expectations anyways.
We have good backup DEs that can grow in Shelby and Vernon. But if we need another I think that one DE from NE is still available
Its a damn shame, I still think he has the talent to turn his career around, but this incident proves that he doesnt have the will to do so. Kudos to Philbin for standing his ground and backing up what he said on Hard Knocks, that crap like this wont be tolerated.
I wouldnt say making the decision to cut him and being an assertive personality are related. I'm really interested though to see it play out on Hard Knocks and see how Philbin handles it...
Not sure honestly. I would think we might extend an offer to a player we had back at rookie camps, since they'd have some idea as to what we're doing. But I really am just guessing. I am sure Ireland has his eye on some players.
