They have to learn a zone blocking scheme as well as get used to each other, plus there is a rookie in the mix. Give it time. Great OLines can take years to peak.
We're going to curse Egnews blocking this year. I see it already.... Or worse, if we rarely run with him on the field, defenses will see him and know it's a pass... then commit to pass coverage and pass rush leading to more INTs. I'm not an Egnew fan. The passing mismatch is negated by the run liability. Just draft a WR and play him at Te. Same blocking results.
At least our organization stands for something. It isn't necessarily winning football games, but we stand for something.
This is where Tnnehill discusses throwing outside, why and how he did it, and he gets into why he loves it. Click both videos... each will start at the exact place where he talks about it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YO6UgIg1AU4#t=12m50s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YO6UgIg1AU4#t=11m18s
Sherman made a good point about what your talking about here, it's something that has gotten him in trouble in college, he's says Ryan is so confident in his arm he thinks he can make throws that aren't really there.
Note that Tannehill mentions that as his season went on, because he threw outside SO MUCH, teams started sitting on it, leading to CB,s not getting out of their backpedal and driving forward to break up or intercept his sideline breaking routes.
Sure, but I'm not talking about the overall improvement of our team or what our W/L record will be... I'm strictly talking about throwing a rookie QB out there with the least proven/acocomplished WR corps in the league. That combination is very scary to me, especially in regards to the development of our rookie QB...
Yup. I'll take that, and the TDs and INTs that accompany it, over unsure and unwilling to pull the trigger. Keep the kicker on the bench.
it had to be done, if philbin would have kept him after telling him all that stuff about falling in line in the first season of hard knocks it would have made the team look desperate, needy and weak philbin did a great job
My thoughts exactly. This season isn't about winning to me. it's about building a foundation for the future. Having competent coaches and not looking like a bunch of clueless idiots is good enough for me this year.
Be scared if you want, but we're not the clear cut least accomplished or experienced in the league at WR.
I think we'll sign someone once the rosters start being trimmed. GB is likely to cut someone Philbin is familiar with.
No doubt one of those players is Sean Smith. He'd better get his head straight and remember what is important.
I have nothing in the way of facts or logic to back up what I'm about to say, but Tanny comes off as the type that adversity strengthens him, unlike say Henne or Beck. But I will say going from QB to WR to QB to 8th pick tells me this kid might just be able to handle it.
Agreed, lol. But again, the "it could be worse" type of thing doesnt make me feel better about the scary thought of giving our rookie QB a bunch of question marks and inexperience to throw to... Since you mentioned it... look how that worked for Gabbert.
Could be... and I'm surprised neither of them were playing as Barcelona.. I believe Chad was Real Madrid and Reggie was Man U.
Colts don't have much of anything outside of Wayne. Austin Collie is a product of Manning. Time will tell if Luck is the same way.
I'm liking Philbin more and more every day. He is in charge, he's showing he demands respect and he's showing all players they represent this organization.
Reggie Wayne is hardly some throw away in that discussion. And I dont think Collie is just a product of Manning. Sure, he wont put up those type of numbers, but hes a good slot WR. I'd trade our WRs for the Colts all day. To be able to give a rookie QB a smart/veteran WR like Wayne would be a great thing...
I know fin d will disagree with me, but after spending time in new England, Chad made a conscious decision to go back and be a clown of sorts, trying to convince us that in order to reach his potential, this is how he has to act.. It started when he sent the message to Goodell, his instinct told him to go down that road without proving anything, and he did, and it was all downhill from there, he didn't take into account staying humble, and becoming aware and incredibly grateful for getting his dream job of playing for the dolphins, no... he chose entitlement.. He's got issues, he needs to learn to grow up..unfortunately it may now be too late.
