In the final year of his contract and coming off the best year of his career. If he has another strong year, do we resign him? The other running backs on the roster have potential but are unproven. Bush also adds a lot more to our offense than just running the football. He is a threat catching the ball out of the backfield and can give us a lift in the return game every so often. A true home run threat and a talent that is pretty rare.

Obviously, a lot will factor in the decision to retain him. Maybe Daniel Thomas and Lamar Miller emerge and make him expendable. Maybe he will demand too much money. It's hard to say now, I know.

My opinion is that regardless of how the other running backs fare, you do what you can to keep him here if he has another stellar season.

Bush puts up 1200 yds and 10tds, you pay him. Hes talking big, let's see it.

Puts up sub 1000yds, move on.

    Middle area? Tough call.

They'll probably extract as much value in a trade as soon as Miller learns how to pass protect...

So you expect Miller to have 2700 scrimmage yards, 14 TDs, and 10.0 yards per carry in just 8 games?

Reggie exemplifies what this team wants in a player regarding dedication and work ethic.
If he shows no signs of slowing down, you resign him.

If there is that much confidence in Miller, Bush could also be trade bait.

Well, unless he is just indispensible to the offense in a Darren Sproiles sort of way, you almost have to let him walk as Miller is as fast, but larger version of Reggie B and far cheaper for the next 4 seasons.

I like what Reggie brings to the table and think he will make a great weapon in the new offense, in fact he almost could be the playmaking centerpiece of the new attack but unless he is willing to take a mid level running back deal we probably should look at Miller as the guy of the future..almost..if Reggie has truly shaken the injury bug we could see a special yr from him.

If I'm the Gm, I'd make him an offer right now..see what range he's thinking of..

The man is still evolving as a back, and is getter better as one, he's versatile, he's super fast, really strong, and has a work ethic that is unmatched on the team..first man on, last man to leave, is 27 years old..I'd sign the player now and show the team who gets rewarded around these parts.

Deej, that's a good point. I don't know if Philbin needs a Bush kind of guy, particularly if Miller is gonna be half as good as we think he is... If you look at the GB backs, they seem to be solid guys, but that offense usually makes them look better than they really are... I like the idea of fishing him out now and seeing where he's at, especially before this season...if he has another good season (1000+ yds rush, 500 yds receiving), it'll be more difficult to sign him then...however, as I already said, this O has a way of making the backs look just a bit better than they really are...and then there is Miller...?? Good quandary...

Some of these jokes are very, very tired and I'd appreciate if you let them alone to lie down and die of extreme old age.

If Bush does well, I think he could absolutely get resigned. He's still got room to grow off of last year if he can really continue to be effective playing more zone blocking, and I'm not sure Daniel Thomas and Lamar Miller block him out. If both of them do well, maybe, but right now Thomas is taking a clearly secondary role and Lamar Miller hasn't really done anything.

I think people also need to stop holding their breath on Bush becoming some extraordinary, unique weapon in the passing game. He's never been that.

scheme can only take you so far, you need speed, and you need talent, Bush has it, is an excellent example of an athlete focused on their craft..I see no reason to let him walk.reward the guy for setting the best example on the team..it's not like your rewarding a player with average talent..

He does seem to have a small issue with catching the ball, he's constantly working on it, and does drop a few, he's very hard on himself and does everything he can do to correct it, but I think there will always be some inconsistency in that dept, somedays he will make the spectacular, some days he'll drop the easy one, but it's not inordinate..the dude wants to be perfect. And I'm good with his skillset manning the position for the next three years, regardless of who's backing him up, Lamar miller was a fourth rounder, his money will not be a problem, nor will Daniel thomas unless he has an extraordinary year.

I think it is polar opposite. Philbin absolutely needs a guy like Bush. Here is a consummate professional that is a high profile guy and only exemplifies hard work, representing the team well off the field, and veteran leadership. If we don't have Bush, who on our roster can set the example? We have that problem on defense right now. We need Bush not only for his skills, but for his intangibles IMO. This roster is too 'green' without him. Not to mention no other RB on our roster has made a strong case as of yet to unseat him.

If he has another great year then its a no brainer to sign him and enjoy his talent through the prime of his career...once he hits 30 then we can move on with Miller and Thomas (if he's not a bust).

Pro Football Focus did a 3 year drop rate on Running backs
Guess who was #3 in the NFL with a drop rate of 3.1% over the last 3 years
Reggie Bush with only 4 drops in the past 3 years.

With running backs with over 100 catchable balls Reggie was tied for SECOND
in the NFL for least drops

    http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/07/04/three-years-of-drop-rate-running-backs/

Bush has averaged 56 catches a year for the past 6 years
I'll take that any day and twice on Sunday

I could not agree more with this sentiment. Prime bush is usually always worth the hassle. Yeah, the expiration date is usually 30-years to the day. By all means, bush this side of 30 is never talent that should be wasted.

Keep in mind he wasn't extensively used in NO. So his mileage isn't the same as a typical 27 yr old RB.

EDIT: I didn't miss the innuendos....

Similar to Ricky Williams...his body didn't get banged to hell (ha) every year all year long...maybe Bush can be an exception to the 30 and downhill rule for RB's

Thank you for that, thats good to see, maybe it's because when he drops one he gets so overtly disappointed and demonstrative that it lead me to believe there is a trend.

They'll probably franchise him next year, if they want to keep him around.

I'm also a little disappointed that there aren't any pictures of booger from Revenge of the Nerds...
