http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-linam-081512,0,2216523.story Just signed one of our UCF Knight kids Josh Linam. Cut by San Diego. Good high character kid. Not sure he has what it takes to make it but I'll be pulling for him. Maybe he can hang on the PS for a year and who knows. Says he took Chad Johnson's spot! Who says there are no winners in Domestic violence incidents?
I wonder why San Diego cut him. Being a Southern Ms Grad I know this kid. Central Florida has had strong defensive units in recent years.
Not really. It made sense and CK is sensible. Now, if he had called the NAME of the player signed I'd be buying Chris a trip for two to Vegas with me, if he wanted it.
So. Miss.... You guys are the one squad that has really had our number in Conf. USA. Don't know how you always find the freakishly big WR's up there. Linam is a tough kid and makes plays. He can get swallowed up by bigger blockers though.
Josh Linam is a guy I saw during Shrine practices that I actually wrote about pretty frequently on Twitter and whatnot. I guess I didn't really post about him here as much, though: But here's one from (another message board) on 2/22/2012...
Unless he can make some sort of immediate impact, he won't make the team. The odds certainly seem to be against him. I go to UCF so I've seen him play quite a bit. He's a pretty sound tackler and I remember one specific play where he dove to make an interception on a tipped pass. It was an incredible play. Other than that, he's just another camp body, though I do hope he can make an impact on special teams or show enough to be placed on the practice squad. Love when former Knights players are signed!!
He is a pretty big guy, but in a 4-3 he can be spared a little fromt he "big blocker" . USM is in transition. Ellis Johnson is considered one of the best defensive coordinators in the country coming over from South Carolina. However, he really hasn't been a head coach. He did coach the Citadel, but didn't succeed there (which is hard to do). He has recruited defensive players much better than guys on the offensive side so far, the opposite was the case for Fedora. USM has always recruited guys that needed beefing up or development (e.g., a high school receiver who stands tall and will be a tight end in college). USM has always recruited well in that circle that makes up mid to southern Alabama and reaches to the Florida pan handle. Honestly, fans here don't know what to expect when we match up against Nebraska on opening day.
UCF reppin! Someone had to replace Marshall... Hes a smart LB and plays tough... but he probably has an uphill climb to make the roster.
I think of Linam as an outside guy in a 4-3. In fact my most ideal position for him might be the same position currently manned by Koa Misi and Jason Trusnik. However, I think he could also play Kevin Burnett's spot, competing with Gary Guyton whom I thought struggled a lot in the Buccaneers game. I don't know that I would put him at Mike behind Dansby. But we'll see what the Dolphins do.
I am not sure why, but looking at the SD transaction wire, he seems to have been cut to make room for backup QB Kyle Boller. He was cut 7/27, about the start of camp and never really got a chance to show what he had. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/transactions/SD/san-diego-chargers
I'm glad to see some UCF guys here. I work here at UCF and go to many games. He is a pretty solid kid. Good tackler. I have been impressed with Trusnik though and think it'll be hard for him to up-seat him. Think the Phins could have a really good PS player and would like to see him stick.
Cut for Kyle Boller? The way that guys career has gone that's got to be an insult! If that dosen't motivate Josh to step it up I don't know what else would!
