Cash, convince me the Pirates have a shot at the WS so I can drop some money on them.

I'd like to drop $100 on them at those 25-1 odds but have no clue where I can do that online.

Also the Pirates are 15-3-1 in their last 19 series.

Pitching staff is going in the tank again, Ever since burnett's one hitter the pitching has been brutal. when you ask a bad offense to keep scoring 7 runs to win a game your results are going to start to suck. Maybe burnett can my boys back on track today.

LOL. I haven't checked this thread in a while. I was afraid that 19 inning game would hurt us even though we won. At least they get a day off tomorrow. 20 games in 20 days is brutal!

Do people still think the Pirates are as good as the Rangers now?

But this is what I am saying, they are legit....again not sure how or why...they took the momentum from Boston last year and ran with it....

But when you are still in it and competing at the deadline, yeah you are there...

I don't buy that arguement but they got off to a hot start and continued to ride it. I think a lot of that had to do with Boston and Toronto being so bad because coming into the season, on paper, Baltimore had the worst team (and they still don't have a good starting rotation). But the bullpen, especially the back end have been unreal. And their record in 1 run games is the key to their success. Whether it's luck, randomness or whatever you need to tip your cap to them. And it's good for baseball too as again Baltimore was suppose to be one of the worst teams and baseball and look what happened.

I like Showalter alot.....he has alot to do with it too...from the day he walked in there, he made it known he didn't want the team backing down from challenges...

    :pity:

As the Pirates continue their collapse and appear headed for yet another losing season, the cries for general manager Neal Huntington and his assistant, Kyle Stark, to be fired in Pittsburgh are sure to reach a fever pitch.

I'm guessing this won't help: The Pirates have their minor-league prospects train like Navy SEALs instead of practicing baseball.

That's right. In an email (that Kovacevic acquired) that Stark sent to Pirates minor league managers and coaches at the start of the second half, Stark asserts he wants all in the organization to embody qualities of Hell's Angels, specifically "swagger," "reckless abandon" and "bound by brotherhood."

Yes, Stark is modeling his organizational credo after a group that is listed as an organized crime syndicate by the U.S. Department of Justice and takes part in drug trafficking, theft, money laundering, extortion, assault and homicide, per Kovacevic.

Also, Stark closes the email with "It's a good day to die!!!" Click here to read the full text of the email -- you won't be disappointed.

From a base running standpoint, its clearly all about the Serpentine.

I can't believe I gave him credit for having the same record as Texas. Should have known the Pirates would eventually regress and be the Pirates.

Think it's pretty clear the stats were correct. They never lie, friend.

Unless the team is from Baltimore :headscratch:

Yeah Baltimore is certainly a Cinderella team this year. The main reason is how good they were in 1 run games. I think it's fair to say they have been a lucky team this year, but also not taking anything away from them either. In baseball you need a lot of luck. It wouldn't shock me if they were back to last place last year either. I just don't see their team being able to compete each year in the AL East like the Rays were able to with the way their team is built and their minor league depth (Bundy and Manny excluded of course).

I laid everything out a few pages earlier. They had a bad offense and the starters were pitching over their heads. Plus they padded most of their wins by beating the Astros, Cubs and Brewers a lot earlier in the year.

It's too bad they had such a nose dive at the end of the year. Even worse is they aren't making any major changes in the FO or with the coaches.

Told you all I wouldn't bail on this thread this year. This has to have been the most painful collapse I've ever witnessed. Everything that could have possibly gone bad did. Pirates pitch a 1-run game, they get no-hit. We score 9 they score 14, etc, etc, etc...

I am glad that they are retaining Neil Huntington and Clint Hurdle. This was not their fault. I lay the blame solely at the feet of the players. They were just too young, too many rookies, to keep their composure throughout 162 games and under the pressure of making the playoffs for the first time in 20 years.

But, I will continue to watch every pitch I am able to for the last 5 games of the season because that's what true fans do. I look for the Bucs to seriously go after a power bat next year and expect the young promising players to have matured. With Gerrit Cole with his 100 mph fastball to be called up in June 2013 and be a key in our rotation.

P.S The Pittsburgh Pirates ARE going to the playoffs!!! (next year...) :tongue2:

I think everyone on this board hopes so. It would be a great story. The team has a beautiful stadium and it deserves to be filled, especially after 20 plus years of bad seasons. I still think they are probably a few years away and need some better hitters in the line up behind McCutchen.

Once they figure out a way to get McCutchen to bat in all 9 spots in the order they will be golden. Similarly, the Marlins need Giancarlo to follow suit.

Yeah seriously, well done on a great season so far. I'll be rooting hard for Pittsburgh too, unless of course they face the Sox. And really everyone should be rooting for them unless you have a horse still left in the race.
