I loved that guy in college and wanted him when he was drafted. I'd pick him up on this squad in a heartbeat. Then again you have to see why he was cut, obviously.

Knee not responding well. Probably needs to take another year off. Slot receiver where we seem to already have a few of those.

He fits. If hes healthy in this offense there is big upside for his welker-type skills. He obviously has to develop further but hes a low risk high reward guy imo. Even if he has a duplicate skillset to a wr or two, talent is talent. Once hes healthy hes a good fit IMO

Not a good fit while Davone Bess is here. He won't be able to get on the field.

The Bengals are pretty stacked with young WR talent and likely cut him early for his own benefit. Sanu looks to be a player...all of a sudden the Bengals have started to draft well the past 3-4 years.

Im not sure a 100% Shipley wouldnt be a better slot WR than Bess.

CincyJungle.coms message board believes his knee just isnt responding well to action, thats grounds for passing on him for now.

I think when you put four WRs on the field and you have two slot guys, one on either side, Bess and (a healthy) Shipley in the two slot spots offers a better package than anybody else we have right now IMO.

All seems moot at this point, all my reads suggest Shipley just isnt where he needs to be from a health standpoint. Sucks for him because he couldve been a real nice #2 target for Andy Dalton for years to come

He doesn't have the RAC ability that you'd want in our offense. Not a fit across the middle. Not to mention the knee is ****. In other words, he can go to hell.

Shipley is more Brian Hartline than Davone Bess, and for that matter neither one of them are limited to slot receivers.

I think the main factor is if you have the roster space/time for him.

I'd say he is worth a look and to check his knee out. Has potential to grow into a nice slot Wr

I watched Shipley play his entire career at UT, where he was fantastic. He was actually looking good with the Bengals till injuries stacked up, he has a history of those, so its buyer beware. In the Bengals broadcast last night, they noted that the Bengals had 8 to 9 guys that can play, and are prototype receivers. They have more that will hit the streets, but I have not examined their roster to determine who those candidates may be.

I thought the Bengals used Shipley in the same type of role that Indy used Austin Collie.

IDK, maybe I'm in the minority but I might rather have Shipley than Hartline if we're keeping one white receiver to satisfy NFL's affirmative action bylaws. :shifty:

I think there is room for both. As has been pointed out before, Bess has actually been more productive playing on the outside than he has in the slot.

There isn't a maximum of one white boy at WR. The laws require at least one. More are ok, though those above the first 1 would actually need talent. ;)

Out of fairness to other convenience stores, we need to have a Circle K, and a Family Mart too. Do we have Family Marts here or was that just in Asian countries?
