The reality is that Ireland is not a good GM. Its time for some of you to stop living in denial and accept it as the truth.
The first post in this thread is about Martin and Egnew being drafted by Ireland and playing poorly in 2 preseason games and essentially saying they're not going to amount to anything. That is ridiculous and that was the point of my post. There are certainly reasons to bash him, but this one is pretty damn ridiculous. Let's bash him for this instead... PFF can feed you all the nonsense they want and you'll listen. It's pretty clear from having watched every Dolphins game Hartline and Misi have played, neither are good.
the bottom line is 5 years in this team just does not have much talent. we have arguably the worst group of WRs in the league. our tight ends are no better than average. our OL, after a 5th straight year of tinkering, still isn't any good. in fact its only been good one year, 09. our running game is questionable, we have no pass rush outside of one guy, our safeties are abysmal, our corners are inconsistent and the secondary as a whole rarely makes plays, and we're looking at a 4th straight losing season. its just depressing. there is more than enough evidence to be calling for Ireland's head.
If you noticed, I stated PFF or watching tape. Believe me, at this point, I'll take anyone's opinions over yours. You're wrong.
Come on man, just give it up already. To say Hartline and Misi are not good is trolling. Are they stars? Nope. But they sure as hell don't suck.
Well, he did say solid starters. Did you see Jones on the pass to Hartsock down near the goal line? Hartsock almost able to roll into the end zone because Jones acted like he didn't want to touch him.
The thing is this Dolphins team doesn't have many star players. I count 3 stars. Jake Long, Karlos Dansby and Cameron Wake. But we have a bunch of solid players. Mike Pouncey, Richie Incognito, Anthony Fasano, Davone Bess, Reggie Bush, Paul Soliai, Randy Starks, Kevin Burnett, Vontae Davis, Sean Smith and Richard Marshall are all solid players. All good football players. And then there are guys who are on the verge of becoming solid. Brian Hartline, Charles Clay, and Jared Odrick to name a few. You can win with a roster full of solid players, but you have to have good coaching too. That's why I think we never got over the "average" hump with Sparano. We had solid players, but not enough good coaching to get us to the next level. Our success comes down to 3 things. Emergence of Ryan Tannehill, good coaching, and players playing as a team and taking the next step together. It can surely be done.
Hartline doesn't suck. But he damn sure isn't a #1 or #2 WR. Misi on the other hand, sucks. He had a decent rookie season, but it didn't take very long for teams to figure out all he can do is bullrush. Now, he's absolutely abysmal as a pass rusher. He's nothing more than a backup linebacker to help set the edge. He isn't any good.
pushing it with 3 stars imo Dansby hasn't shown much and wake is border line. I still think Vontae is our best player but he has his head so far up his own *** its hard to notice hes still good. Also don't care what anyone wants to argue this year became an instant rebuild 3-5 win season the day we traded Marshall.
Our biggest issue is the QB position. Under Ireland's reign, he's built a solid football team overall. But under him, we've had solid QB play only twice. Both times, the team had a winning record with the starting QB.
Same old Dolphins. And I see the same type of posts on message boards every year. You have guys like me who think we suck and are going to have a horrible year and that Jeff Ireland needs to go and we have no playmakers. Then you have the guys who say "its only preseason" "don't over react" go root for a different team" and every year they are wrong. I can see if the Dolphins only sucked for a year or two, but come on, this team has been horrible for a decade. How long are you eternal optomists gonna keep it up? Face it, there is something wrong with this team and starts at the top. We are gonna be horrible again this year to and I'm so sick of it.
I agree this is a rebuild team. I have no problem with it either since this team was in major need of one. What gets me though is when people try and tell me I'm wrong about this team and that it's a potential playoff team. SMH.
No, go ahead and respond. Bless this forum with your wisdom. Misi blows. Can't wait until the day he's replaced with a real NFL player.
While its great if a team is quick to adapt to a new scheme, its certainly not unusual for one, undergoing the installation of an entirely new offense, to struggle in the early going. Similiarly, any expectations for a newly installed defense to hit the field, competitively firing on all, or any of its cyllinders, seems to me equally unduly optomistic. Oddly enough, here, following the second game of the preseason, the one expectation that has come to pass, appears to be the pre-ignition of criticism. If this team is going to gel on either side of the ball, its fair to expect its going to take some time, and in my opinion, a bit too early to be smelling up the place with unreasonable rants, or rather excess gas, which at least during the preseason, would be far better expelled in the rant forum, as its designed with much better ventilation.
It's obvious Ireland is on his last leg, Pre season or not this was a huge draft class for him...and it's not looking very good thus far. Obviously if you were on the fence before, your piling on now. It's not illogical at all to think Ireland is garbage, his body of work frankly is pretty bad. Trading up into the 2nd to nab that Daniel Thomas is a move that isn't really even brought up but should be, there is no longer a Parcells here to blame. If these rookies specifically Martin, Egnew who look like total poop don't turn it around by seasons end....then how can even the most optimistic Ireland lover continue to apologize??
Not sure who you're addressing here. The debate was about his drafting, not his overall body of work.
I agree 100% with your comments. I think when this season is over, it will show that the players on this team make up the worst talent this organization has seen since the 2007 season. Ireland has done nothing but take this organization backwards since he took over complete control of player personnel decisions. The only hope for this organization is that Ross will finally realize that Ireland has been the problem all along, and he will fire him before the season is over. We can only hope that Ross hires a new GM who actually knows what he is doing.
And yet I'm consistently proven right time and time again by this team. Someday you'll come to the point when you realize homering it up about this team isn't worth it, because you'll be wrong again and again and again. I'm proof of this considering nobody was a bigger homer than I a few seasons ago. Eventually, you'll open your eyes and start to get it. Or maybe not. Much of the same people who were homering it up in 2008 are still giant homers now. Sad really, but it is what it is. Gluttons for punishment.
The point of this thing is to win championships. Drafting a bunch of decent players is like hitting .275 with little power. Jeff needs to start hitting a few more home runs. Tannehill might be one, but Jeff still needs to be better than that. At this point I don't know how anyone can look at the lack of both consistent and elite players on this team and say Ireland has been as good as he needs to be.
To be fair, the title of the thread was "silver lining". Some of us are arguing (me included) that there is NONE. and I am hardly a Ireland "hater". He is just not up to the job of General Manager. I have long defended him as a evaluator of talent. I see his vision, and I have agreed with some of his evaluations. But the guy made a complete mess of the Marshall acquisition, and then didn't replace him when he sold him off for 75 cents on the dollar. I contend that the guy does not have the foggiest idea on how to build a roster.
I've tried it too, but it's like when you are passing a horrific accident along the highway, no matter how hard you try to just drive past while keeping your eyes on the road ahead, the temptation to glance over for a quick look becomes too much to resist.
and of course, the final "straw" for me is watching this listless and quite frankly talentless side on offense. There is realistically not one playmaker in our passing game. That spells for serious trouble.
IMO they really need to start getting Clay more involved and Bush and Miller moved around and into the passing game. They need to get these mismatch players involved because no one else is a threat. Of course when you can barely function without getting your QB slaughtered, it gets that much harder to put people in positions where they can draw mistmatches. They're too busy blocking.
You are the same guy who was quoted as saying we should tank this season for a shot at Barkley in next years draft, correct? that one statement loses 100% of what little credibility you might have had. you can rant and rave all you want and be as pessimistic as you want, but your posts hold no water.
For me, it is annoying that every yr our draftees just do not seem to shine and the similiar, tired, bull****, about "oh have to wait 3 yrs blah blah" starts, folks in the modern NFL players develop far more rapidly..everywhere but Miami it seems. Anyone else recall the annual Jason Allen/Chad Henne/Matt Roth will develop stuff? How'd that turn out?
