    Well. I'm torn on this.

But........ I HAVE TO HAVE faith in the coaching staff for making this decision. It wasn't a political decision, it was based on his skill set and what he has shown them. Philbin isn't under debilitating pressure yet and the expectation when Tanny was selected was that he wasn't ready and would have to sit a year. Clearly that isn't the case. Philbin could have taken the easy route and eased him in after the first half of the season and nobody would have complained.

With that being said, this decision certainly speeds up Philbins window as a head coach. He is laying it all on the line and if in two years Tannehill isn't the answer, we'll probably be facing another coaching change. Let's hope history reverses for this franchise after this move.

Now, we have the rest of the preseason to put Tanny in the best possible position to succeed. Maybe leaving Tight Ends in to block? Chip block by RB?

I am loving that we FINALLY have an intelligent head coach, when Garrard went down, this was the only logical move.

Wait, just yesterday you said this team could win he division. And now that coach has named the starter, who is the best QB and chance to win game 1, your mailing the season in? Surely you don't believe Matt Moore could of won us 11 games, yet a better QB in Ryan T is only going to win 4?

Yeah, the QB we took in the top 10 just won the QB job after 2 preseason games. Nothing to get excited about at all.

The Future is Now would mean Garrard starts, or Moore, it means you play Vets over rookies.

I'm just sick and tired of watching crappy football, of making time to watch us lose again and again.

Why are we expected to subject ourselves to it yr after yr?

Overall I'm just marveling at how far the scene has changed, that's all.

Only three weeks ago or so, we're having arguments in here about how stupid/smart it is for Jeff Ireland/Dawn Aponte to get into a pissing match with Ryan Tannehill's agent over offset clauses in his contract, to the point where he's actually missing training camp.

The argument of the people that supported the wisdom of Ireland/Aponte was that it doesn't matter because it's obvious Ryan Tannehill isn't going to start and isn't really even competing for the start. And I'm not picking on these people, because like 90% of the people that were arguing the other side also accepted that as just true.

Three weeks later he's the declared starter.

With a rookie Qb and the fact we will more then likely play unproven players so they can develop together?

    What do you think?

This has a host of ramifications that mean we won't win the division, we may pick Top 5.

That is how football works, I truly hope it does not play out that way, as I'm a dolphins fan first and foremost.

Garrard is due $2 million if he is on the opening roster.

There are 2 million reasons why Moore is kept over Garrard.

Is that really all that out of the ordinary? Players regularly do better than expected, and players regularly get injured. I certainly am surprised Tannehill won the job, but I don't think its anything extraordinary.

I think if any QB goes, which is probable but not certain, it's Moore. Garrard had won the job until his injury. Moore has had every opportunity to win the job, and didn't do it. To me it looked like what a lot of people were saying, he's just not a good fit for this offense. Garrard no doubt was, Tannehill no doubt is. Even Devlin, although he's not a better QB that Moore at this stage, is still a better fit for this offense.

It's also amazing because I really don't see how people could say he played poorly thus far. I am amazed by his lack of mistakes. He earned this opportunity, no questions about it IMO.

You obviously don't understand the meaning of the term "the future is now".

The future is now doesn't mean "win now". It means that our future is on this roster...the QB that we hope will be the face of the franchise for the next 15 years. He is our future and our future starts now.

"Win now" means you play Garrard or Moore because you believe this team has a chance at something special, or at the very least a run, with them at QB. If this staff thought that this team was capable of something special this year, even a playoff run, then one of them would be the QB. Instead we are not in "win now" mode this season. We are rebuilding and with rebuilding there is no reason to mortgage your future. Your future is now.

    Get it?

Happened a while ago so I'm over it... all I had on there was personal stuff; nothing business wise (then I'd be pissed). I'll keep the design similar though.

I don't think it speeds it up for Philbin. I think it buys him an extra year. Philbin won't be judged on this season because he is starting a rookie QB. He has a team full of holes. He now has to set the tone of the team, put pieces in place, and get this ship on the right track.

Yes it's pretty extraordinary considering that what was implied in that argument was that the Dolphins coaches had no intention of even taking Tannehill seriously in the competition.

I think they see what Moore did, see Garrard as bitten again by the injury bug...and they are staring down a 4 win season with those guys. Moore has struggled mightily with Sherms offense. They are thinking "win as much as possible now" by starting Tannehill. Sadly. I just pray our o-line gels, and a few WR's can step up instead of being practice darlings.

But look at the bright side. Our defense may be giving our offense big breathers all game long.

What better brand of football are Garrard or Moore going to give us than RT? 2, maybe 3 more wins at best and an 8-8- record. The pieces on the O are what they are at this point and the 2 vet QB's are not going to make Duper & Clayton out or the WR corp.

To those afraid that RT is starting I suggest you buy a dog.

Take whomever the Returner is in your FF league, they will be given lots of opportunities.

I've seen a young Qb develop in BC's Travis Lulay but he had a couple of HoF caliber Wr's, we have UDFA's and Naanee.

I disagree with you Padre. I respect your opinion, but when T-Thrill and Moore are close, you go with your gut and who has the most upside. Just like oldschool and backyard pickup games when we were young. It's time to roll with our highly drafted qb and I know you will follow suit. Like Chris said, the time is now. Roll with it. Great things to come if you ask me.

Thing is, this effects the Vets the most as they know what this means for the season, this was one of Cameron's problems in 07.

They'll pay lip service to "we like him" inside they know to get injured this yr means they ruin their FA value for a 4 win season potentially.

Basically, unless he has a fast start, our season is over by November if one looks at our early season schedule it is AFC opponent heavy, and teams that figure to be in the Wildcard chase.

This should be motivational to the rest of the team. They should have greater motivation because pretty much any rookie QB is going to need help. I just hope the veteran players on both offense and defense can kick it in to gear and help the kid out.

So Tannehill goes out and out performs Moore, winning the job, but we should say sorry, your the best QB but we are going to wait to start you?

Based on that we should bring back Coloumbo and bench Martin because we don't want to start him.

I guess the Colts and the Redskins are screwing up by starting Luck and RG3?

You start the guys that win the job. I start a freshman over varsity players in high school all the time if they are better, I just don't get this thinking that you don't start the best player.

That was before Garrards setback and T-Thrill playing better than Moore. How do you sit him when he's teaching the offense to Moore? I think most of us would have liked to have seen T-Thrill sit for a year. But circumstances aren't playing out that way.
