Like hell, you can trade him for a pick in a heartbeat. I like him too, but if you can ship him off for a pick you do it and dont stop for a second and consider that conversation as anything other than, we sign your check, you still help....until someone else signs your check. Dont know when it will happen, but between the two, Moore can earn us a 6th or 7th, and Garrard cant. Thats part of the decision and reality.
I'm sorry, but Ireland is just a putz. Reggie asks for a players' meeting with Philbin and him, and gets zero response. And only Joe attends. What the Hell has he done to ignore a meeting with two players, who have been on teams to make the Superbowl? Maybe they know how winning teams do things? Was the show about ten minutes short tonight?
He does not seem to look guys in the eyes when talking to them, its almost like he is shy, that is the first thing that stands out. I guess he also comes across as a nerdy school teacher, not a football coach in the sense that you see Turner and Campbell. You see him walking around the field picking up what looks like gum, but could be scraps of paper. Now saying that I love the detail he puts into things, he just comes across as a odd person to me. I still think he is going to be a good coach.
To be fair, they do focus on him a lot, probably because of the young guys backing up Anthony. I think I'd like the DBs coach Lou Anarumo too, if he got more screen time.
Personally, after watching this show I came away seeing the team coming over to Philbin. When those 3 vets went to talk to him, and he was all for their idea that was a great moment. They showed some moxy going up there and talking about it, and he agreed to letting them take more of a role. That helps guys buy in. Players may say they didn't like it, but also that they now have a say in some aspect. The cutting of Chad Johnson could prove to be somewhat of a watershed moment with this team and this season. The way Philbin handled it was great, I really think it was. He found some leaders, they found their coach is accessible. As far as Philbin being odd, I'm not buying it. I see a detail oriented, intelligent guy who believes 'the devil is in the details' and who is a little more personable than he may come across initially. He's really growing on me.
I took it that Reggie really only wanted to talk to Coach, but GM was there, so he said we were thinking of talking to you two.....then I am sure the cut scenes were the reality that it was a Player and Coaches meeting and not a needed place for Ireland, since it didnt have anything to do with his role, and rather had to do with the LEADERS of the team helping to aide and assist other players from making bad decisions and forcing Coach to get on them or end up cutting them. Coaches really make the cut decisions and Philbin is the top of that chain. I dont think - aside from Ireland standing there when Reggie walked up - Reggie had any intention of including him, but he was being polite, and again, am confident off camera (or the cutting room floor) the decision was made that the GM wasnt needed since the conversation was about preventing the next "Chad" issue, etc for other players. Again, its cool to see and have players admit that in the past they have dropped the ball on POLICING their own. Maybe it a little thing...but Philbin is a Little things mean a whole lot type of guy. So it resonates.
He looked good, aggressive, strong...if that dude would just transform his body, just figure this sh&$ out, man would it help this team..
A 6 th or 7th is not worth letting go of Moore if he truly wants to stay..you don't trade a hi quality backup for that.. Plus, if you wanna lose all respect as a coach, then go ahead and allow it..cause thats what will happen Imo
Im willing to bet Philbin described all the reasons he let Chad go thoroughly, just too classy to let it be aired and ruin 85's chances anywhere else.
Loved the leaders of the team and Philbin meeting up to discuss how to deal with things better in the future. Also shows me again that Philbin gets it and knows what he's doing. Philbin continues to get a little too much negativity from fans. He's not a rah-rah kind of guy but he's smart and he does know what he's doing and how to handle things. He honestly impresses me more and more every time I see him. I'm Ryan Tannehill's biggest fan but seeing Matt Moore being told he wasn't starting broke my heart. On the other hand though, he is a really good teammate and you can tell the coaches and players love having him around and that he's still essential to our success. Jim Turner continues to be the GOAT. He's got the best one liners on the show. "Am I on drugs?" "I know I'm talking to myself." Epic. Dan Campbell is growing on me quite a bit. Someone else already mentioned this (EDIT: It was Fin-O), but Michael Egnew's facial expressions when he's being chewed out are hilarious. It's almost like he has no idea what's going on. Jake Long and Les Brown's girls are gorgeous. Would bang. Really good to see Vontae Davis turning things around. LOL. I thought the same thing. Would have been awesome if Philbin told him to get up. Completely forgot about that. Now I'm disappointed. Even the players were telling us to watch Hard Knocks to see it.
Another great episode. Matt Moore can be a great asset for RT. Pat Devlin won't make it to the practice squad. John Jerry is capable of being a stud, which makes me feel better because I've liked some of his flashes before. Thanks Jim Turner. Capable of being an All Pro? You going to argue with Turner? Reggie Bush / Jake Long / Karlos Dansby... leadership council... informal for now of course. Les Brown, probably not making this team... certainly not the 53. Honestly, I'd rather have Moore than a sixth or seventh round pick. You can get one of those picks quite easily... by trading down in the fifth round. mmkay. I don't think that is Ireland's place to respond. It's up to the head coach. Ireland is clearly not there to be a go to guy if you have a problem as a player. Yeah. There is no predefined way that a head coach has to be in order to be successful. Clearly, he's different than Sparano. He's not that type of coach. And that type of coach isn't always successful. The Tony Dungys / Bill Walsh types are just as likely to be successful in this league as the Bill Cowher / Tom Coughlin types. And that's why you surround yourself as a head coach with the Mike Shermans / Dan Campbell / Jim Turners to offset that.
Sometimes its business....but I think Garrard if healthy is better fit for 1 year....and Tanne is the present and future....a 6th or 7th still has value. Will see. I dont think trading Moore for a pick looses all respect for Coach or GM that feels thats in the best interest of the team. Depends on health of Garrard, but it may be a race to see who wears their hat on backwards while Tanne takes the helm.
You didn't notice Ireland's comletely negative body languague during the conversation? And Ireland has final roster say, he has to impact the cuts.
Moore has a great attitude, but I havent seen anything on the field in this system that says so far he is adding value (that Garrard cant add). Tanne and Garrard and Devlin are adequate depth, but who knows if Garrard isnt healthy, yes, Moore as clipboard holder is fine too.
oh my god that was epic.... Incognito to Tannehill: You starting this week? RT: Yep Incognito: Nice... Don't **** it up.
Again, I noticed that when asked by Coach is this about Chad, and Reggie finally said yes, its about Chad's situation in a round about way, Ireland knew he had no say, it was a player and coaches issue. I dont think Ireland did a thing (other than being there) for a reason as he picked up on what the tone was about, at a moment where Player(s) wanted to address a locker room issue with HC. Final roster say, doesnt mean that Ireland makes the cut decisions exclusively, I think he will bring in talent, but its up to the coaching staff to find the best 53, and make the decisions on who stays and goes, really. Its mutual in a solid and cohesive FO (Coach and GM) and solid staff (Coach and Position and Assts, etc). GM has the power, but hopefully HC has discussion and say. If they cant agree, yes, GM has power to override for the best interest of the team, contracts, image, etc. A good GM keeps finding guys to make the coach keep finding the best 53.
Philbin doesn't get to veto trades. Ireland could trade Tannehill tonight for a box of used tissues and Philbin can't do anything about it.
Actually, I think it was Ireland that went thru it first with Chad prior to him meeting with the coach.
I can't believe the beat writers are so worked up (at least seemingly) about the QBs not breaking the news about who would be starting before the coach announced it.
I'm a little disappointed we haven't gotten more quotes from Jared Odrick. I thought he would be on the of the stars of the show seeing how much of a goof he is.
I'm really pushing for Egnew to get it together, he's getting the worst of it on HK and plus it seems he really takes to heart the coaches ragging on him, and man they are ragging on him worse than Andy Capp's wife.
Odrick hasn't been as impressive on the field as I had hoped, hopefully it's just a slow start to playing DE
I really liked what I saw from Vontae, I remember back when we played Carolina a few years ago and him and Smith got into it. And he was asked on the finsiders if their was one player he thought talked crap the most it would be him. And his conversation on the sideline made me laugh, I also liked the way Philbin handled it after not freaking out and letting him explain.
Didn't get to watch tonight's episode. Judging from these posts, sounds like John Jerry and Vontae Davis have seemingly started to turn things around. Could anyone please elaborate on those two? I still wonder if Vontae gets out of the doghouse if they don't move Richard Marshall to FS and look for a nickel back among the cuts. Was not impressed with Chris Clemons in the Panthers game.
Well I don't know about Jerry. He looked like **** from the practice cuts they were showing. But good in the game.
Glad Vontae was put in a positive light tonight to shut some people up. Afterall, he will be our best corner.......again.
