http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/08/22/andre-carter-takes-free-agent-tour-to-st-louis/ I've talked about a lot how the Dolphins are in some trouble when it comes to pass rusher outside Cameron Wake. Jared Odrick is offering nothing there. Olivier Vernon is offering nothing there. Jamaal Westerman is the best pass rusher we have aside from Wake and that's saying a lot because Westerman is in a battle even to make the team. Andre Carter is 33-34 years old and coming off a bad injury. I understand that's not the sexiest of situations. But I challenge anyone here to actually get up to your elbows in 2011 tape of the New England Patriots defense, and tell me that Andre Carter was a bad pass rusher, or a bad football player. I thought he would bring nothing to the table in New England. I was pretty wrong. I was impressed. I'm not saying the Dolphins need to fall all over themselves to sign him sight-unseen. I'm saying Miami should be a stop on his free agent tour. There's no harm in taking a look at him and seeing if he's back from injury. Unless you're comfortable with passers having as much time in the pocket to pick apart our secondary as Cam Newton had last weekend...
Released that Fb as well, we have 2 roster slots open. Not sure if I'd fill it with Carter, may prefer a youngster and just take our lumps. Carter vs Shelby..who ya got?
I don't think the pass rush is in nearly as bad shape as it is being portrayed. What exactly is different from last year? They switched Kendall Langford for Jared Odrick in the base defense, which I'd say is an upgrade pass-rushing. Everyone else is the same. Positions have changed, to a degree- But it quite probably is not all that significant. It's quite arguable the base 4-3 is better for them being productive than the base 3-4. What's changed in the Nickel package? Jason Taylor is out, but I'm not sure what we have now is worse than him on his last legs.
So do we take "the future is now" course and sign the savvy veteran, or build for the future by keeping the developing youngster? Seems like you believe the latter, but in other threads seemed to support the former.
I think you can never have enough pass rush. I also would have liked to have seen Cam Wake out there vs Newton. As for waiting till after Week 1, that's a pretty formidable passing offense we'll face in Houston. One that traditionally lights us up like a roman candle.
I don't think you can ever have too many pass-rushers. I wouldn't mind signing Carter. But I'm not sure that Panthers game is a very accurate representation of our current situation.
This is EXACTLY what I am looking for and expect us to be doing. Looking at guys coming off injuries.
it seems obvious to me now we are rebuilding, before I still held out some hope that we were going into 2012 with the goal of seriously competing, not developing, however we are developing players this yr, let us not kid ourselves.
Right. But lets keep in mind that we are missing Cameron Wake, and we didn't blitz Cam Newton. I don't think any team would look good in that context.
Too many guys staying glued to blocks among the starters Sb, they have to show more or we have every reason to believe we are in deep kimchi.
None of our starting LBs played against Carolina. Let's reserve judgement until our starters are on the field.
Shackle Ireland for the next 6 months to his chair...He seems to be in a death spiral right now. His decisions during the season seem to yield nothing, if not blowing up in his face. It's pretty much just trial and error decisions with a little blind loyalty in Colombo last year and Steinbach so far this year. His 3 dimensional mind must be spinning due to not grabbing Braylon when he had the chance (fist slams table).
Let me get this straight. No pass rush outside of Wake, no impact safeties, no right side of the offensive line, and the worst wide receiving corp in the league. From an original situation that was not much different. Sign me up for another four years of Jeff Ireland please.
Really? I seem to believe in the Falcons more than most. Top 10 passing statistically last year and I think they'll be better this year. They have a pretty good pass offense and if our defense isn't careful they'll quickly be in trouble.
Ryan may choke in the playoffs, but his regular season numbers last season were pretty impressive. He passed for same yards and TDs as Romo and better than Cam Newton last season.
