"It's definitely an advantage," Tannehill said. "I think it's completely different circumstances if I'm having to learn completely new offense and get adjusted to the guys and the game. That definitely took a big element of it out where I could focus on the little things, focus on learning the guys, focus on learning small details of plays instead of the whole playbook in itself."

He was working on ball placement in his first practice..

knowing this offense so well allows him to establish himself early in the process, leadership wise, as players look to him for direction.

Kid won the damn job..good for his ***... Inner Tempo has to go up now..He gets rid of the ball quick though, that's what I'm noticing a lot of, it doesn't spend to much time in his hands before he rips it, that's going to help the offense function, a combination of his skillset and a quick tempo rhythm offense that requires velocity and accuracy, that keeps him away from the mistake throws, and allows his talent to come to the forefront.

Should be an interesting topic, Seeing how far that advantage takes him, and how much we can account for less bad throws because of it.?

The big thing about this IMO is that, unlike most rookie QBs, he won't be locked in to the call that was made before the offense lined up, and therefore susceptible to a defense that can exploit it. He'll be able to change the call to a more favorable one after his pre-snap read.

Two topics that get talked about ad nauseum that I haven't seen linked are: Tanny's knowledge of the offense & sitting/starting.

I wonder if the fact that he didn't have to learn the offense is the reason he doesn't have to sit. I would imagine most rooks would have to spend all of camp learning the offense, and can't focus on the little things like Tanny has, and its those little things that require other rooks to sit.

I mean we heard how his knowledge is an advantage but by the time camp is over it won't mean much because then everyone will know the offense. But I think an unconsidered benefit was giving him the ability to focus on game speed and details instead of the offense.

    I dunno....maybe?

Excellent point. I saw that happen in the Tampa game. Moore ran Thomas right into the teeth of a blitz for a loss of yardage and a little later in the game Tannehill checked out of the run play and hit Pruitt for a nice gain.

Yes maybe... all QB`s should be in similar conditions regarding the knowledge of the offense by the end of training camp or at some time during the season, then it would be skillset vs skillset to determine the starter QB, and imo that`s exactly what happened. RT was improving ahead of schedule along he OTA`s and TC because of that advantage to a point where he was very close to Moore (unfortunately Garrard is out of competence for now) and it was precisely his habilty/skillset/fit for the offense what gave him the starting job.

Even then... there is a difference between knowing the offense and being comfortable in it...

One other time they showed blitz, Tanne checked out of it, and right before the snap, they dropped into coverage and didn't come.

Oh most definitely. He's definitely benefitting from his experience in the offense IMO.

I'm not a QB evaluator by no means, but it seems Ryan is at ease making his reads, i love that.

I want to see his game improve vs Atlanta to prepare him for the season opener.

Atlanta is a great test for him with the likes of Grimes, Robinson, and Samuel roaming the field. Good chance to see how Tannehill does against some disguised coverages and more complex blitzes...If Nolan is actually going to bring the heat and not run a vanilla defense.

Joe Philbin is finally bringing the Miami Dolphins into today's modern NFL.
