Good, just let this team continue to tank. That's the only way changes will be made.

3 straight seasons of missing playoffs better be treated as a defining line in the sand, if not, yes, this franchise has deeper issues than whats taken place on the field or in the locker room. Who'da thunk it!

I think this is going to be a wake up call to ownership. Buster Olney actually posted a pretty good piece on how the owners should let Cherington just have full say in what goes on and not have people (Lucchino) go over his head and overrule him, kind of like how Cashman has full power with the Yankees (although even then he still gets overruled i.e. the Soriano signing). I agree with Buster, give Cherington the keys and let him and his people go to work, that's why they're getting paid after all.

EDIT: Good article by Jonah Keri here:

I just don't see it fink...as you said a cancer like Lucchino is in too deep with management....until that guy leaves and they let Cherington do his thing, the atmosphere isn't going to be pretty.....just the players have now pulled the lynch pin, they went to management (as you said the majority) of them....if they dont do something, the players are going to justly feel that management doesnt have their back...it could get real nasty...words travels around the league, just ask the Dolphins, free agents will more or less use you as leverage than actually signing with you....having a messed up FO is worse than not having players...it is toxic...

here is the video, Lester if that is you, shame on you son....and whats with Shoppach being the tough guy...dude your Kelly Shoppach, you suck lose the atittude you backup catcher.......

Why should I be fair to Pedroia when he most certainly never even gave Valentine a chance as manager to begin the season? He was and always has been Tito's boy. This season and his actions have not painted Petey in a positive light.

And now here's Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, dispensing with whatever pleasantries are left and unloading on what's widely perceived as a Red Sox clubhouse full of players who don't much care or, alternatively, care about the wrong things:

Fair as far as his numbers go. His production is down because of injuries.

Again this isn't all on Valentine, but I definitely think he's part of the problem.

If the Red Sox decide to make a managerial change, Joel Sherman of the New York Post suggests Jason Varitek as a good fit for the clubhouse. The success of Robin Ventura of the White Sox and the Cardinals’ Mike Matheny should make clubs feel better about first-time managers, Sherman opines.

:hi5: let the good times roll!

I actually think that is a horrible idea. Varitek has way too many relationships with members of the current team (it would be extremely hard to seperate those relationships from Varitek the player/friend to Varitek the manager/boss) and let's not forget the guy was the captain of the 2011 Red Sox that had major club house issues.

Totally agree on V-Tek, I like the idea of someone like that but that's as Jeff Ross would say "Too Soon".

The Sox need a manager that is both a player manager but also tough and would get the player's respect right away. Who that guy is, I don't know.

Hopefully Crawford gets his TJ surgery this week. The Sox season is over, he actually played pretty well in his handful of games so he has something to build on for next year.

Any Sox fan right now should be rooting hard against this team now, hey we're only 1 game better than Seattle right now! Let's get that new manager and a better draft pick!

How long does it take a hitter to recover from TJ surgery. I am guessing he will be able to hit much before he will be able to throw. Will he be able to play after the break next year?

Recovery time for a position player is 6 to 9 months or so. So assuming everything goes right he should be back around May or next year, if not sooner.

Real hard hitting reporting being done up in Boston. I surprised there hasn't been anything about the Red Sox in the Star or People magazines yet. Maybe Real Housewives of the Red Sox will be on TV in time for next season too?

Oh absolutely. I've heard tons of stories of the 2004 club (off the record of course) that would have been hundred times more interesting than eating chicken, drinking beer and playing video games in the clubhouse and all of this "we hate Bobby V" stuff. The problem was that team won so writing articles about that stuff would have been pointless and there weren't people going to the media about it. Seriously there are much better stories from 2001 (that team/clubhouse absolutely hated each other) & 2004 that has never gotten out/written about.

Carl Crawford getting TJ surgery on Thursday.

Red Sox fired pitching coach Bob McClure, no word on if Bobby Valentine was the one that told him or if he continued to ignore him like he has all year. Remember for all the flack the players are getting, the manager doesn't even talk to half his coaching staff.

Oh I'd hope so. At this rate I'm hoping to get 2 or 3 typical Crawford years out of him instead of the 5 or 6 when he first signed.

Barnes has slipped a bit the last couple of months but a great season none the less. Bradley has done well all year, glad to see him turn it around.

Keury De La Cruz, never heard of this guy but he is crushing A ball this year.

Boston media, the Herald, at it again, this time ripping the Sox players because only 4 current players, David Ortiz, Saltalamacchia, Clay Buchholz and Padilla (!!!!!), went to Johnny Pesky's funeral. The article also rips the current players because all of them went to Josh Beckett's annual "Beckett Bowl" which was a country music show and bowling tournament. Not once does the article mention that "Beckett Bowl" is for charity. Best part of the article is how it mentions none of the Sox players went to Pesky's wake, with a throw away line that the team was in New York during it playing the Yankees.

I mean seriously, is this what it's coming down to?
