who is buying the groceries in 2013? I doubt it's Ireland but you never know with this team.

Apparently we got more than just a 2nd rounder.. .also a conditional sixth rounder. Doesn't change my opinion though :wink2:

You mean Ireland. Our brilliant GM. Our coaching staff moved him onto the 1st team last week in the game versus Atlanta. You know..that game where Marshall played like **** and Vontae played great?

This is pretty much how I feel. I hate thiis move. I have no confidence in Ireland getting a better player in next years second. We lose a good player for a year and get nothing for the year. I just hope Ireland is not the one making the pick next year.

Here is my take on this:

Reminds of the Chambers trade in 07, sounds like a good idea, but when the reality of the season hits Ireland/Philbin are going to look awfully stupid trading a Vet at a key position for a draft pick.

I'm going to be honest, I don't care for Philbin a bit, seems a bit to Cam Cameronish to me, dude seems not to realize some things.

Also think this is Dansby's last season in Miami

I agree with a second rounder for him. Imo this trade came about because Hard Knocks caught his "acting" comments on film. What does it say to every other player in the same position that you can pretend to have the work ethic but not actually walk the walk. He looked too comfortable in his role for me. Did it matter to him if he was the starter or the back up? This is changing the culture. This should get the players who may not be the best in thier position give that extra 10%. I love that this was done before the final preseason game if anyone thought about getting comfortable they have just been put on notice.

Did the leadership council agree with this? Will have to wait for hard knocks to find out

If it's true that Nolan Carroll's play has enabled this trade to be made, then why does Jeff Ireland get no credit for drafting someone the caliber of Nolan Carroll in the 5th round?

Unlike some doom and gloom people on this board, I don't think we are going to be horrible. Coming into the year I thought we were a 8 or 9 win team and I still can see us doing that. To me the defense has been the problem, and we all thought that was the strength, Davis again came in out of shape and we all saw it on Hard Knocks, I really don't have a problem with him going, this is two years now of the same crap. My other concern is the Oline. But our division is full of question marks. The jets are a mess, the Bills added tons of talent that does not seem to be doing anything, and the Pats are getting old.

I'm willing to see how things play out with Tannehill at QB, I'm excited to see the future.

If VD is our 3rd best CB then how is this a rebuilding move?

Marshall has clearly been better and is more established and by all accounts Smith has been better this offseason.

    It is what it is.

    It's unequivocally a good trade.

He couldn't beat out Richard Marshall, and if he wasn't responding to Kevin Coyle, whose entire career has been defined by his ability to improve talented but underachieving ****-ups.

This is not a rebuilding move. This is moving a fungible commodity at a logical and beneficial time. Vontae Davis is not worth a 2nd to the Dolphins right now, irrespective of their ability to win games

    I didn't vote. I'm honestly mixed.

Vontae has the ability to be one of the best corners in the game I believe. His problem is he can't pull his head out of his fricken rear and sort our the mental issues. That kills him.

On the other hand, our DBs are pretty mediocre IMO and even worse without Vontae. A 2nd round pick isn't bad, but keep in mind Vontae had a very cap-friendly contract as well.

My biggest fear is that the FO will mess up on another 2nd round draft pick.

i've cooled down a bit, and now agree that getting a 2nd and 6th for a 3rd string CB is good, when considered alone. My issues still remain though that we have little depth now (and Carroll has yet to prove in a game that he has 'improved) and likely are going to get carved up by opposing QBs.

that said, it looks like we were going to get carved up anyway. I just really hope this FO doesn't muck up the 2nd round pick in the draft, or use it in desparation for another 2nd/3rd rate WR right now

Marshall has played better than Davis this year? Its preseason! That isn't even true. Davis wasn't on board because he was out of shape? For all of you Hard Knock viewers.....This kind of stuff happens every year on every team. Players come in out of shape. We're going to label Davis "not on board with the program"?

I hope Philbin isnt trying to build a team full of Saints (not the team). We wont win sh*t if thats the case.

I agree that my weekends just got a lot more complicated as I'll have to make plans. I agree that I'm done spending countless hours worshipping a worthless team and worthless GM and ownership group. 4 rebuilds in 10 years. They can rebuild this year without me. Another wasted first round pick on top of the bounty lost with BMarsh? The two weakest positions on the roster? Screw Ireland.

I voted yes just because if all these people are crying like babies about it,it has to be a good move. Reason being 9 out of 10 times when this board cries it turns out to be a good move for the fins.

    Great post.

VD is a good player at a premium position, he's under contract for two more years at a bargain price. IMO trading him for a 2nd is questionable under any circumstances, but at the start of the season? That's just dumb. I'm guessing we could get a 2nd rounder for VD at the trade deadline or ideally during the offseason after we've used him up. Instead, we traded him for a 2nd round pick that will do nothing to help the team this season. That sends a helluva message to the rest of the players. I understand getting rid of problem children, I was on board with cutting Chad Johnson and trading Marshall during the offseason. I also understand you need good CBs, and good players period, to win games and **** if we didn't just trade a top 10 caliber DB for basically nothing.

Like you said, maybe there's more to this. Hopefully there's more to this. Maybe Ireland is stocking ammo so he can trade for a decent WR or two. If not, this trade was astronomically stoopid.

Not unless we trade the pick for a WR who can catch a ball. Simply because I don't trust this team to actually find talent in the 2nd round of a draft.

Its not a value trade for us (even if it may turn out to be a good trade depending how the pick is used, we won't know for years), considering he was a 1st round draft pick that is now off the team 4 years later...yet another draft bust to add to the very long list.

I've seen Marshall get burned just as badly as Vontae.
This is not addition by subtraction, it is simply subtraction.

Wrong, this is a rebuilding move. Every sign has pointed to this being a rebuilding year.
We are not going to be remotely competitive.

I agree with sending messages to the team, but I'm not sure who the message is coming from. Did Philbin make this decision? Was it Ireland acting on what he heard from Philbin or did he do this on his own?

I'd also like to point out that season hasn't started yet so it's not really fair to say that Marshall outplayed him. Out-practiced him maybe.

Saying "wrong" and then your opinion isn't really a compelling argument.

An underachieving but talented player you've been forced to replace is absolutely a logical
