This team isn't going anywhere either, until he goes somewhere else.

    sh*t just got real

Jeff Ireland tells the Herald that the draft picks acquired in the Vontae Davis trade could be used in a trade for a receiver, and soon.

THIS is my issue with Ireland. We have talent on the roster. We have guys we can win with on both sides of the ball. But we have very few playmakers.

Well, then hopefully every 2011, '12, '13 draft pick and Joe Philbin & staff will bust so that you can then bask in the glory of being right b/c that's the only way you would accurately be able to say that Ireland has done a bad job.

Considering I'm an objective realist, I understand that it's quite difficult to assess his performance as a GM when most of his stuff either hasn't played out yet or is in its infancy stage.
    A. You don't know that Egnew & our 2013 draft pick wont pan out to be significant contributors who make the Marshall trade look good in hindsight.
    B. You don't know how our 2012 picks have panned out to determine that Ireland failed this draft.
    C. You don't know that Philbin & staff are failures to determine whether or not Ireland made the wrong hiring decisions.
    D. You also don't know who our 2013 2nd rounder is to determine whether or not he has greater value to us than Vontae.
    E. However, what we do know is that when Ireland took over he inherited a huge pile of s*** from Parcells, including Parcells' terrible coaching choices and some bad Parcells draft picks.
    F. Until it all plays out, I won't pretend to know how it will.

But Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland, who pulled the trigger on the deal, told The Miami Herald that the team doesn’t necessarily have to wait until April’s draft to make use of the freshly acquired picks.
“We’re looking and this gives us a little bit of ammunition,” Ireland said, when asked of potentially trading for a receiver. “If we can do something, we’ll do it now.

Man if Ireland flips the pick for a proven WR I would be ecstatic about this. We have other corners on the roster with talent, but we have no receivers other than Bess.

I'm not sure there's a whole lot of proven WRs out there you could acquire for a 2nd round selection. It's become a deep position, but many teams are struggling to find a #1 guy. We'd prolly end up overpaying for a #2 dude. Ironically enough, my first choice would have been Wayne from the Colts (not for a 2nd, of course).

I honestly believe this team is cursed. Look for the Colts to win their division this year. What we all think will be a very high 2nd rounder will turn out to be at the bottom of the 2nd round. Hate to be negative, but this kinda stuff always happens to us.

I go to phins.com , they have a sidebar where tweets get posted , and update automatically. I just copy/paste the tweets here , so people can see the information in one place. Beyond that I have to ask my son as he is the writer , social media guru in our family and right now he is working in Europe , so the lessons have to wait a bit.

lol have you SEEN our receivers? It won't take much to upgrade. I'm sure we could find a damn good starter for a 2nd round pick.

According to Pro Football Focus, Vontae Davis' ranking among all NFL cornerbacks

last year was 43rd. Richard Marshall, the veteran brought in on a three-year deal that now essentially replaces Vontae, was ranked 51st among 109 qualifying corners in 2011

Oh, I've seen our receivers. I'm just not sure I see a 'proven damn good starter' we could acquire for a 2nd selection. An upgrade? Aye, shouldn't be too hard. Actually, my dog just might be an upgrade. But a bonafide starting WR, not so much.

They'll probably move Marshall to the slot and play Carroll at boundary, but still neither one of them has the quickness or COD to stay with a slot receiver that Davis does.
Our secondary just became weaker, no matter how you slice it.

I'm having flashbacks to the "trading our slot receiver and kick returner to New England was great value" era.

Not that Vontae is Welker, but running up the white flag gets old.

Jeff Ireland's most interesting quote about the Vontae Davis trade was the idea he might turn around

and make a trade with the draft picks he got. "No way anybody has given up (on this season),'' he said. "Just because I got draft picks doesn’t mean I can use them now. This helps us with ammunition to do some other things. I’m not saying I’m going to … "

    Deflection.

Well, it was. If I'm selling my 500$ Honda for 1.000$, and the buyer ends up tuning it to high heaven while I buy a Beetle that dies on me after two weeks, the problem wasn't the value ... it was the craftsmanship.

What proven WR is available for a 2nd round pick?

In your car analogy, you've multiplied your losses. First you got rid of something that was working, then you sank resources into it, then it stopped working.

I'll say this, though: if the new coaching staff didn't want Vontae around, at least we got something decent for him. That's much better than just letting your 1st round pick walk.
