Does Vontae Trade Make It More Likely We Trade Matt Moore?

    I think so.

If we are willing to downgrade our chances this year to improve in the future, I think all they are waiting for is to see if Garrard is reasonably healthy enough to go as our backup this season. If he comes back from the injury and looks good in September, I think Moore is moved by October for another pick.

    Thoughts?

Who is giving up picks for Matt Moore?

I don't see it, barring a pretty catastrophic injury on a contending team with a scheme he could step into. Even then, I'd think we're talking a late pick.

Downgrade to improve. How many more years of this philosophy do they expect us to endure? Like I said in another thread, I don't think the coaching staff has any say whatsoever in the moves Ireland makes. I'm sure every player with any trade value is on the blocks.

Suck for Luck comes a year too late.

Might as well trade Moore. He's a FA at years end so even a 6th is decent. I'd explore trading overpaid semi bums like Dansby as well.

Just like Philbin is ridding himself of the people who don't fit with his philosophy, I think he keeps Matt Moore because he does.

That's not more than a month from now, and Tavaris Jackson is a bit more versatile than Moore is (not better, more versatile).

And Moore is definitely better and proven as such on the field. It's not supposition. There is data and film evidencing it.

Who traded for Tavaris, out of curiosity?

that doesn't make any sense to me Taz, I can't see how Ireland is trading players on the team without the coaches consent, 2 weeks out..He's seemingly ridding the team of players that Philbin doesnt believe in..There no other way Ireland could be pulling this off without chaos.

It's the stated timing that is such a big problem. If the team were in a position to move him today, maybe Moore has value. It has to be an injury situation and a team he could step into with prospects for the postseason to make a pre-deadline trade make sense.

The premise here is that there would be an October trade assuming Garrard comes back. Trades like that rarely happen in the NFL.

i seriously doubt it. ireland said he will use that pick or any other ammo to get a wr this year if he can. that makes me think he isnt giving up on this year. but ireland still has to make it happen or what he did was just plain stupid and he needs to be fired.

So your saying they were willing to risk an injury to Davis to be more competitive in a preseason game. The deal falls though if Davis gets injured against the Falcons.

Idk why anyone would assume Garrard would be back first of all.

Heck, come week 1 if I felt Tanne and Devlin with his hat on backwards could hold down the fort till a healthy Garrard could return to wear his hat on backwards I would start calling around now and see who would give me the best pick 4th?, 5th? or 6th or 7th or multiple including future years too for Moore and ship him in a heartbeat.

Anyone not really necessary for the 2013 and beyond you ship off and get picks.

I love the idea of accumulating picks,I hate the idea that Ireland will be making those picks.

I actually think that's where most people's dislike for the VOntae trade stems from too. It's not the value we got, it's that for US that value won't turn into a good player (in SOME people's opinions) with Ireland making the picks.

If we had a great GM, people would feel okay about it, I think, because they'd trust he would either use that pick to move up and get a superstar earlier, or get a great value in the 2nd round.

It's true that we may not retain Garrard when he comes off injury. In which case, Moore stays.

It's not just about having a backup, it's about having a veteran mentor who already gets along with Ryan.

I hope not. Moore is a good backup QB. We won't get enough back for him in a trade to warrant trading him imo. Having a QB who can come in off the bench in case of injury and manage the game is important.

Moore only has one year left on his contract... if we get a trade offer for him, we should take it. I suspect that when his contract is up he will want to sign someplace he has a chance at the starting job.

I agree with this. Moore doesnt strike me as someone who is content to hold a clipboard. He also has a bit of Jay Fiedler Disease (career backup who in his own mind is a Pro Bowler). I dont like him as a long term backup to Tannehill, and if Garrard is healthy, I always perfered him anyways. If we can get a pick for Moore, then Id trade him without hesitation. Maybe a situation develops where another team is desperate, maybe it doesnt. Cant hurt to see if it happens.
