I agree completely. Just give them Loney and another non star player. Not two young prospect pitchers.

Yeah, still crazy. I mean it's one thing if they did something like the Sox did when they traded for Beckett where they had to take on Mike Lowell's contract and if he bounced back great if not no big deal. The Dodgers freely took up 250k in the deal and all they really wanted was Adrian Gonzalez. If it was just Gonzalez and Beckett then fine, makes sense worth the risk etc but adding Crawford and his salary was the nutty part.

You still want Aceves back Fin?

He's in the wrong role, he shouldn't be "the closer" but used as a swing man or a multiple inning reliever. When he's in "closer mode" he tries to throw as hard as he can and thus his fastball stays flat and is hittable, instead of throwing 91 or 92 with movement to generate weak contact.

With the L last night the Sox now have the 13th pick in the 2013 draft. Keep on tanking boys, nothing to play for except getting your manager fired and getting a better draft slot.

Bailey has gotten the last few save chances and Aceves has been pretty bad recently, so yes I'd say Bailey is the closer now. Not like it matters much anymore.

Why continue to feed the beast? Stop giving any oxygen to this and the media that blow things out of proportion. Just let it die and suffocate instead of resurrecting and feeling the need to salvage and tell your side, especially when your side doesn't need explaining.

I actually think it's important for some of these players to come out and try to set the record straight. This is what some of them should have done last year after the beer/chicken articles came out because it didn't stop the media, just fueled it more about how the guys weren't being accountable. I think it was important for Pedroia, who is the leader of the team now, to let people know what's what and to defend himself from certain "attacks", like Beckett did a few days ago (unfortunately Beckett should have said things sooner). He said his piece, now it should be over from his perspective. If the media still wants to bring it up (because almost a full year later media members are still making beer and chicken "jokes") it's on them and they're just beating a dead horse.

Again of course this will all go away if the team starts winning, but hopefully that won't happen until next April.

It's just one man's opinion but it's a man I happened to trust a lot so here are a few interesting questions/answers from Keith Law's ESPN Chat today about the Red Sox:

And finally because why let this thing die:

I am surprised that Law has Barnes below Webster but that makes me like this trade more, I would have thought it was the other way but I am not K-Law.

Saw Kelly pitch against Braves the other night, looked pretty flithy.

I see Ellsbury getting $20 million a year from at least 6, the Sox shouldn't go there. I would do 5 for $90 maybe $100, but I just don't see Boras settling like that. I am sure if the Sox aren't all in, Boras will find the team that is.

I was just think how little power we have in the top of the organization.

I'm more surprised that Law now thinks Bogaerts might stick at SS now. He had been pretty confident that he wouldn't be able to stay there, and still might not long term, but at least he's been getting some positive reports on him.

I wouldn't touch Ellsbury, his 2011 season just screams career year. He's been pretty bad this year, granted a lot could be due to the shoulder injury but he has zero power this year. Plus he hasn't always been healthy in his career either, again a lot of those injuries have been flukey but still. I'd explore trading him in the offseason, I wonder if Texas would trade him straight up for Andrus? But there's no way I give him a long term deal especially for big money, I just don't think he's worth it.

20 to 2! Keep it up guys, maybe at this rate we can drop into a top 5 pick!

And there's zero reason why Kalish, Iglesias and Lavarnway shouldn't be playing everyday from here on. Stop with playing Podsenik and Aviles they aren't part of the team's future.

MUST read article by Alex Speier, who in my opinion is the best Red Sox writer (and one of the best baseball writers) around about how Bobby Valentine needs to go immediately:

    http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/b...alentines-day-time-red-sox-make-decision-mana

In the story Valentine showed up to Friday's game 3 hours before game time and last night Valentine had Scott Podsednik batting 3rd and said it was a mistake (2nd time he publicly admitted to making a line up mistake, the 1st one was in Minnesota when he thought a Twins' pitcher was a lefty when he was really a RHP).

And the most obvious sign is the dugout beef between Pedroia and Aceves, Valentine comes off and Aceves basically brushed off Valentine and yells at him:

    http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/news/a...01&content_id=37749750&vkey=news_bos&c_id=bos

The guy clearly has zero control of the team, the players aren't responding to him. Lucchino needs to suck up his pride just admit he's wrong and make the change TODAY. Because this is only going to get worse. Valentine doesn't seem to care, the players clearly don't. Just make the change, this is getting embarrassing now. I know I joke about wanting the team to do poorly to get the guy fired and get a better draft pick (and I do) but I want to see the team at least play better baseball in the meantime.

Ugh what a year. Obviously this isn't all on Bobby as the players need to produce but it's clear he's part of the problem, perhaps a big part of it. Time to cut him loose. Just do the right thing Lucchino. This isn't about you or your ego, it's about the overall health of the franchise moving forward.

With a little luck we can help it out
We can make this whole damn thing work out.
With a little love we can lay it down
Can't you feel the town exploding?

And a little luck we can clear it up
We can bring it in for a landing
With a little luck we can turn it on
    There can be no misunderstanding

There is no end to what we can do together (together)
    There is no end

And if he can do it, we can do it

With a little push we could set it off
We can send it rocketing skywards.
With a little love we could shake it up
Don't you feel the comet exploding?

There could potentially be seven managerial openings this winter with the Astros, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Indians, Phillies, Padres, and Rockies possibly looking to shake things up. While San Diego's Bud Black is a well regarded manager, the Padres' new ownership may look to install their own hire.

You figure Beantown will go hard after John F. if Jays let him go? or has any luster fallen off his image?

Henry and Cherington are flying to Seattle to join the team, but according to all the media's sources it's not to fire Valentine. I hate to say it but it's completely mind blowing that they won't just fire the guy. According to Buster Olney agents for some of the players (I'm guessing the RPers) are calling the Red Sox to complain about how their clients are being used (or overused).

Just a big mess and it won't get better until after the season.

from current crapstorm, to a crapshoot. Not sure it will only take this off season to make things better in beantown.
You may hope for the best, but I think you would be better prepared to expect the worst for a bit longer.

Keep Bobby V., "with a little luck"....sing it with me.

Not sure how it can get much worse though. The team has hit rock bottom. They needed a change and between shipping some players out of town and (hopefully) getting rid of more problems (the manager and some more of its players).

I'm obviously a bit more optimistic on the franchise's future than you are. They have some kids in the minors that are close to being ML ready and with the money they have to spend I think it can be a quick turn around for this franchise to be good again. Maybe not a playoff team by next year (although with the new WC format its possible) but by 2014 they should have a good base of talent and ready to compete. The league is turning into a younger guys game and the Sox have pretty good young pitching coming soon (something they haven't had since Papelbon, Lester and Buchholz).

Actually I dont thinkso....yes, by 2014, they should have some pieces to compete, but not next year foreven 2nd WC....obviously, TB and BAL have young talent and arms too, and the unknown is what moves Yanks make to remain on top.

My point is that for beaners it could very well be 4 straight years missing out on playoffs, and most likely maybe even 5.

We probably have same realistic time frame.....

....but the fun of Bobby V (although I dont see him being retained) possibly being retained would be a blessing to guarantee it maybe 2015 or longer. Hahaha..

I guess we will see. No one saw Oakland or Baltimore being any good this year and look what happened, ditto for the White Sox. Baseball is strange. A lot can happen in an off season or a year.

Red Sox players don’t trust owner John Henry, chairman Tom Werner and president Larry Lucchino, Yahoo's Jeff Passan reports. The players see the owners as the source of leaks and lies and they have an equally frustrated relationship with Valentine, Passan writes.

The Red Sox should dismiss Valentine and hire Terry Francona again, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports writes.

I dont know which story is funnier!

It really would be nice if Henry fired Valentine and Lucchino, publicly apologized for ever firing Francona and begging him to return as manager but it will never happen.

Again these stories will continue to come out until the team gets better.

Yeah Iglesias has no bat but the way he plays defense is just amazing to see. The guy truly has a gift with his glove. But you're right, he probably won't ever be an everyday ML SS. He's still young, 21 or 22, but yeah not looking good.

Bobby V certainly just had an interesting and entertaining interview with WEEI. Go to their site and give it a listen. The guy is clearly going crazy. My advice to him is to keep talking because the more he talks, the dumber he looks and the closer to him being removed once the season is going (because who knows why they want to wait that long)....
