One of the best teams in the Afc and perhaps in the Nfl. Can we finally beat them and get the monkey off our back? We are 0-6 against them. From what I have seen in the Pre-season from Miami I want to say no. We have a lot of work to do. Ireland needs to be busy and Philbin and staff need to coach and teach (fundamentals) I just want to be competitive and not beat ourselves like we always do. Hopefully we have the proper coaches this time around. I'm getting kind of worried here with this roster.
I'm ready. I have the JD, ice rocks so as not to water my drink down, fresh wire coat hangers to beat the family with during the game and the pool is clean so I can drown myself in it when its all said & done.
If your a handicapper, and you have good data that illustrates preseason performance as it relates to how teams play in the season openers, and it favors the team with a good overall performance, Houston should smoke us, you make the bet, if it doesn't show a correlation, then back off.
when i saw the thread title i was gonna post that i don't think we have ever beat them. thanks for including that ugly fact. 0-6! ouch.
well at least I have Andre Johnson on my fantasy team.. ugh that said, maybe we've got some good scheming coming that they haven't showed in the preseason. Though its gonna take a lot more than a good scheme to beat these guys
I won't make a prediction but I am as well. I really don't believe we have insurmountable holes on the team. Of course our WR position is a huge issue but I mean otherwise. I really believe the offensive line will gel together nicely, not saying it will be perfect right out of the gate but I expect them to be respectable. I think we have a good RB stable and are pretty set at the TE position as well. Tannehill will have his rookie moments but so far looks like he can run the offense. My hope is that Philbin and Sherman can install a game plan that negates our WR trouble just a little. Then on defense I'm not overly worried about any one spot. Sure we could use another pass rusher but as a whole I think our D-Line and LB's will be fine. Better than a lot of units in the league. I'm not too worried at corner even minus Davis. Then safety would be my main concern but I don't think our pass coverage can be any worse minus Bell.
Hey they beat us as big underdogs to kick off 2003...maybe we'll reverse it now that Miami is the underdog. Except the talented (minus QB) 2003 Dolphins had Wannstedt as a coach...Kubiak should have them more prepared, we'll see.
You can also point out that we can still improve a few areas of the team through cuts. If we can trade for a receiver and sign a pass rusher cut from another team, that should help.
Classic trap game scenario with the game in Houston. However, I am supremely confident in my lack of confidence in this team. Should be fun to watch. Finally gonna see how good Philbin/Sherman are at scheming.
Who knows maybe this one time that we're expected to be annihilated maybe they'll pull it off? As opposed to most of those other times where it was supposed to be an easy victory for us.
I always wait to see a few REGULAR SEASON GAMES, before I start to make a judgement on this team. Really we have not seen our real group of starters play together yet. Tannehill is going to do nothing but improve week to week and I think we are going to find a WR to help in either cuts or a trade. Hartline gets healthy, and he can get open when healthy. I believe that if you look at our preseason, there are a few key moments in every game where we just dont make the play we should have made. Drops have plagued us quite a bit and really killed some drives and probably took points off the board. IMO our biggest problem right now is that we have NO pass rush at all aside from Wake.
I don't think the first game of the NFL season is a trap game, Houston is going to come out jazzed up ready to knock somebodys teeth out on opening day....especially Andre Johnson whom some are doubting him coming into this year with the injuries from last... trap games are usually in the middle of the season IMO....
The key to beating Miami is a simple one, and frankly has been the same for a while now.... Throw deep...Miami cant stop the big plays downfield, and without Vontae I would expect it to be easier as well...
I once again renewed my season tickets although I have little hope for a winning season. My hope for the year is that Tannehill develops into a solid QB by the end of the year. That will be what will sustain me. Then I hope that we find a better GM than Ireland to re-stock the team around Tannehill.
Enjoy brother. My family finally gave em up this year... too many losing seasons to justify the price. Just going to go to a select few games from now on.
Houston has been having Oline issues, hoping our defense can expose that and get a lot of pressure on Schaub.
it would be poetic justice if we could win the game at the last second with tannehill scoring on a qb sneak, but alas, these are the dolphins after all..
I don't feel like anything I personally do to prepare for Houston will be meaningful in regards to the Dolphins winning.
It's all been yet another clever ploy from Coach 'Hannibal' Philbin. Make ourselves look really bad in pre season and watch the opponents come in ill prepared and cocky. Miami puts up 50+ in week 1 and Coach cracks out his cigar safe in the knowledge that yet another plan has come together.
We have a couple things we can hope for. 1- Reggie Bush lights it up on his quest for 2,000 yards. This will control the clock and keep Houston on the sidelines. 2- Houston has a questionable O line. Maybe Wake and company will have success against this and not give Johnson enough time to get down the field. 3- We trade for a WR that can actually hold on to the ball. Helping keep the double team off of Bess.
