Omar Kelly @OmarKelly Dolphins signed OG Chandler Burden, WR Jeff Fuller, WR Chris Hogan, T Andrew McDinald, DB DeAndre Pressley, S Anderson Russell to PS.
Pressley was actually the QB who replaced Armanti Edwards (WR, Panthers) at Appalachian State. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=103365&draftyear=2012&genpos=CB
I agree. Nannee has been running with the first team since the beginning of training camp. He's not going anywhere.
DeAndre Pressley supposedly outperformed a couple cornerbacks during a Sunday tryout. Pressley, a rookie from Appalachian State, spent training camp with the San Diego Chargers. The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder contributed 11 tackles, one interception and one pass breakup in the three exhibition games he played with the Chargers. But the Tampa native is a former college quarterback who became just the fourth player in NCAA Football Championship Subdivision history to pass for 2,000 yards and run for 1,000. That means he's a good athlete who is a RAW, inexperienced cornerback. Considering Miami only has four cornerbacks on the 53-man roster do these coaches really have the time and space for a project? But then again, the best athlete should be the one they invest in. It is just the practice squad, which is a developmental unit
You should probably attribute that quote to Omar Kelly. I'm not a big fan of him, but got to at least give him credit for his own words.
I'd have to think at least one of them, if not both. Also only having 6 lbs on the 53 man roster seems light by one to me, which would lead me to think it's a position that will be represented on the PS.
I'd also think it were light if we weren't running a 4-3. I mean 7 would be the norm IMO, but 6 isn't unheard of.
I would like to see them bring back Brown and make a WR out of him, instead of a TE. He is faster than some of the WR's they have on the roster, and with his size and speed, and his weakness in blocking from the TE position, I think he is more suited to be a WR in the NFL. Of course, since they already have two WR's on their PS, it would surprise me if they added a third receiver to the squad.
Speaking of, I'm still not sure why he was rostered as a TE instead of WR. But I'd venture a guess that the experiment is over. They don't seem to want to try him at WR, and we have three TEs already.
Probably because as a TE he'd be unique and I'd personally think it would be easier to teach him to block (and add strength) than the subtlety necessary to separate from a DB (route-running).
lookz like Kadu is back Ben Volin @BenVolinPBP Dolphins practice squad: Chandler Burden, Jonathan Freeny, Fuller, Hogan, Josh Kaddu, Andrew McDonald, CB Diondre Pressley, Anderson Russell
Looks like we did add Freeny and Kaddu. I'm curious what it'd look like if we would've been able to keep Aaitui on the PS.
I wonder if they tried, and failed, when the Jets claimed him. I still think that if/when they move one of the 4 QBs off the roster, if that opens up a spot for someone like Ryan Baker or one of the PS LBers to rejoin the roster.
Exactly. In my opinion he looked absolutely hopeless as a blocker. Not just a bad blocker, but someone who would take a LONG time and a lot of coaching just to become even average if he ever even attained that level. I don't believe this staff has the time to be dedicating to Les Brown in order to help him improve. Especially when as you said TE isn't even a need exactly.
I agree with that, however we just add Pressley to the PS, this guy needs a lot of developmente as CB since he was a QB in college and he is in one of the most critical position in the team right now. I see us looking for another DB in these days.
If we were even split between offense and defense, 25/25, I'd guess we'd carry 9 DL, 9 DBs, and 7 LBs as a 4-3. Then if it's a 3-4, flip flop the numbers at DL and LB. Also, we won't be constantly in a 4-3 from what's been said. the 28-22, offense and defense, I cannot ever recall us having as the ratio going into week 1. I think one QB won't be on the roster by the first game and another DB or LB will be.
That doesn't make me feel any better going into the season. I have low expectations for him, so his stock can only go up in my view. His role on the team is a bonus.
IMO, he's not a better WR prospect than either Fuller or Hogan and 2 WRs on the PS, considering 6 on the 53 man roster, is enough.
Alright!! Pulling for my Oregon Duck to develop into a solid NFL backer. Speaking of the Ducks, remember this name, if you do not know him already: Marcus Mariota. He's their redshirt freshman QB, and he is going to be great!
Having a limberdick like Naanee as a starting WR is really hamstringing Tannehill IMO. It's almost like they want RT to fail forward fast.
I'm pretty optimistic that they seem to want to keep Will Yeatman on the roster instead of on the practice squad. I wonder if they don't consider him all that long range a prospect.
Me too. Other than Jake, I thought he was our best pass blocking tackle in preseason. He has good feet. Coordinated. We may have us another Ronnie Lee on our hands. That would be really nice.
I never get excited about a practice squad but that's pretty solid. Better than who we were carrying in previous years imo.
